Enjoy everyone!
Combat looks much smoother, animation looks better, and BH class is looking really cool in this vid.

Yes, and More Yes.
you know bioware is doing something good when they have classes outside of force wielders that are quite appealling.
I am crossing my fingers that they put in Combat emotes into the game to give that extra personality for the classes.
good stuff
lightsabers still look fisherprice made...
why is it so difficult for these people to get them right i wonder?
Meh, i dunno what exactly it is, cant really put my finger on it, but theres something about it that just makes the combat look pretty terrible to me. Like, it looks like its fun, but just i dunno, something about the physics or the way they interact with eachother looks well, sort of like was said above about the lightsabers... fisher price made. I would think that $150M budget would bring me something that makes me go "wow thats badass", not "meh, its alright"
Notice that they are using different armor types for each class. Some of the jedi/sith have armor, and some have robes/cloaks. Also, notice that some of the armor is dyed different colors. I even thought that the overall look of the characters looked more refined and less "cartoon like".
i know exactly what you mean mate...
i think its the combat speed. its too quick and it makes it a bit clumsy in the process.
I would not be worried about this. The final combat animations/fine tweaks will not occur until the last leg of the development phase. We still have a long time to go until that point. I would expect to see that any problems they are having with the combat will be fixed at that point.
Looking pretty slick. Beta can't come soon enough.
I really love all those nay sayers after this great video
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
I really can't wait to take the plunge into this mmo! Sure you can nit pick at little things but Bioware are constantly improving on everything. This game will be epic!

More please!
I'm actually getting fairly excited about this game. 2011 can't come soon enough.
I'm so conflicted by this video.
In every MMO that I have played, I always play a melee character, but the only melee character in TOR is Jedi. I don't wanna play a Jedi, but if I wanna play a melee character Jedi is my only choice; how I wish that a class like Tera Kasi made it into this game.
In SWG I had a Jedi but rarely played it, I'd rather be on my Swordsman / Pikeman (whatever I was at the time) than my Jedi.
I've being saying I'm gonna play the Trooper, but playing a ranged class is completly different than melee, I just don't think I could enjoy the combat side of playing a Trooper. I'm sure I would enjoy the story, but the mechanics of playing from a distance or up close in your face, I'm not sure I could play a Trooper as my main.
Unfortunatley, I think I will end up as a Jedi Knight if I stick with this game, which is not what I long to play. Grr just add TK dammit
After all the doubts I've been having about this game, this video kind of blew them away. I think the graphics and animations are definitely looking better... and the combat just looks, FUN. Did you see where the trooper shot in the air before shooting at an enemy? That was cool, like maybe an intimidation emote kind of thing?
The bounty hunter is looking bad ass. Throwing out a cable, dragging an opponent to you and crossing your blasters like that. Damn. I think the stylized look is pretty sweet now. On a nice computer with max settings and an HD monitor that'll look really good I think. I still kind of wish they were more up to date, but I understand why they are not. So I'm not going to complain as the atmosphere of the game look slike it will be enveloping, including combat.
I'm very excited now.
Unfortunately, I don't see that happening. I never understood how an unarmed opponent could run upto an armed gunman who is a marksman by the way, and defeat them with their fists. It just doesn't happen.
However you maybe in luck, the video with the bounty hunter and sith warrior on the ship showed several republic soldiers board the ship, and draw swords when the sith got close. Maybe you'll get the speciality to pump up your melee abit?
Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3
i have to say that i am actually extremely disappointed after watching this video. the subjects that the devs were touching upon were only fairly important, there are still way more important features that they would need to address in order for this to be revolutionary in any way. the graphics look absolutely laughable as i've seen better in a F2P.
im personally praying that they improve everything by at least 100% because with a $150 million budget this game should not look worse than games that came out 5 years before it, and i still have not seen anything revolutionary about the combat itself.
i read some people saying that in time it will all improve and get the tweaks it needs, but half way through the development and im not impressed. the graphics really do need to improve, aswell as the combat, and lastly more revolutionary ideas that dont exist in other mmo's. the way this looks right now, only us star wars fans would want to play it, and not even all of us.
they need to make the game far superior to any other mmo out there and i mean FAR superior if they are to last and make a game that is actually worth their $150 million investment. even mabinogi heroes looks more promising as of right now. even the star wars console games looked better than this.
hopefully they will put in the hard work and FORCE me to shut up.
Something I used to think, though I realise now that it is a design style. Graphics have nothing to do with it, You don't like the style, and that won't change so you may aswell give up now.
Oh and design style won't prevent people playing. WoW is a giant cartoon, look what happened there.
Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3
It's an art style choice. They're trying to make it look decent, but still allow those with low/mid range PCs to play. They'll get polished up some along with the animations, but the overall look is more than likely set.
So yeah, I'd just give up on that cause right now if I were you and move on.
i see... well thanks for the feedback guys and i guess i will just accept it and move on.
Well they said most ranged classes (or was it all) will be able to use some sort of melee weapon, in one of the first vids a bounty hunter was seen meleeing a Jedi.
Whether this will be viable is not know though.

I agree with a few others. There are lots of moments where it all seemed to come together to look both smooth and fun, but many others where it didn't. There are times, for example, when there is no reaction to a light sabre passing through a persons stomach or someone is standing in combat waiting as if they are at a train station.
Of course though watching combat/gameplay isn't even a taste of what it is like doing it yourself. I can see myself wanting to make my combat style look perfectly smooth and working really hard at mastering it, perhaps playing into the choreography that is already there. Especially if I play a Jedi which had some of the nicest looking moments.
I also think they are onto something with the few versus many where you are powerful enough to one-shot at least some of them. I often find such battles very fun and exciting, especially in solo play.
Overall, I think it was intelligent of them to release this and gives solid information, unlike the usual hype building video that sets out only to impress you with the visuals.
I'm sure some folks will be dissapointed by the aim to balance the classes. That means no Alpha Class jedi for those that enjoy "I Win" buttons. I'm liking the direction of this game even more.

OMG! This combart look so dull. People standing in place poking themselves with stick... or standing in place and getting shoot at. And those guys call it exciting...

Okay, I know what happened. Try minimizing that youtube video of the MMO you play and watch the star wars video.
Nah just messing.
Dull? As far as I'm concerned if it can give my epileptic friend a fit then it can't be called dull. (I'm yet to test it..)
*Calls said friend and informs him of a new video...*

I apologize if I am getting you confused with another poster, Kt, but didn't you recently complain about your SWG Sniper missing his one-hit kills?

On the plus side, the combat looks good SO FAR. The enviromental style and detail look VERY GOOD.
On the downside, I'm not crazy about the character textures. I know its not in beta even but hopefully the toons wont look like their straight outta clone wars cartoon.
Hopefully they will release RACE INFO soon.
This video looks very promising indeed. I don't know what some of you are babbling about.
Of course jedi are the main melee class, they ARE practicioners of bladed combat. That's just how the lore goes. If you want to put a bounty hunter with a vibroblade against someone who's symbolic weapon is based off melee combat, by all means have at it. I did see a bounty hunter with a sword attached to his back in the video. But don't expect any shoulders to cry on when you lose 9 out of 10 times going up against them.
Some people who are pining for SWG or have it in the back of their minds when they compare the two games need to realize that Bioware is molding it's version based on past Star Wars games it has developed. Successful ones I might add. And if I were developing the game, I too would make is so different from that "other" Star Wars mmo that all of those old SWG players would scream blastphemy every time I release a new screenshot. I for one want a new experience, not a reskinned version of a empty shell of a mmo. I was there in the SWG beta and release and quit for FFXI just before NGE.
My only concern is that they seem to trivalize a lot of the combat animations, especially lightsaber combat. I'd much rather see each class get a personal shield of some type (instead of health) to hampen damage and after your shield is drained, players would have numerous ways to finish you off via random finishing animations. It would make for a much more solid feeling combat experience. I just think that after seeing someone take a lightsaber through the gut, they would fall to their knees only to rise again at a spawn point. I don't want to see a skill called lightsaber impalement or the sort.
Other than that I feel they are moving in the right direction as far as their type of style when developing something of the SWTOR legacy.
