Opinion in constructive way? nope not whining but when you indulge in over dramatic tones and emotional outbursts, its hard to take so called opinion seriously. At the end of the day its just a game.... it just a GAME!
a game that most people feel ripped off from buying. i feel sorry for lifers who spent somewhere around 300$ for a product that many including myself are saying was misrepresented,incomplete,shallow and in general sub-par. thats before talking about the way cryptic has treated people after the fact of having sold them there box of magic beans that will one day grow into a great mmo.
yes people are whining! and so they should, that way cryptic will hopefully not be able to sell there "some people just dont get it" product to more people.

I just recently bought STO for 29.99 and I play it as a casual MMO and I love it oh by the way I see other player on STO when I play so it cant be that bad, I am just sick and tired of ppl posting I quit STO just to make STO look bad well so what that is your OPIONION if you dont like the game dont play. Well, many of the people posting are huge Star trek fans and you just have to understand that they are frustrated when the game wasn't what they hoped it would be.
I understand the feeling myself, I am a huge Warhammer fan and I didn't like what Mythic did with the IP, it wasn't a bad game but it surely wasn't Warhammer.
STO is also aiming for casual players and that makes the people who prefer another play style upset.
My personal opinion is that it is impossible to make a good MMO in 2 years with any budget and any crew but if you like the game and feel different that is not really a problem.
People should be able to talk a bit about their frustration, it is when they start trolling the same thing over and over we get a problem. If you are tired about that then it is not a problem but people who explain why they quit and just need to talk a little about it do have the right to do just that.

Ya, it's just a game. A game that for most of us is played durng those few hours a week we can put aside to enjoy our hobby. That time is valuable to us. It's a game where a great many people followed it's development during those few hours they get. A game they wasted their hard earned money on too.
I guess to you that's nothing though, since most likely your mommy and daddy still buy you everything, but to most of us getting ripped off is a big deal. Ripped off not just in money, but in terms of time wasted following the game's development too. So ya, I want to see Cryptic buried for what they've done so that the next company that thinks they'll put out unfinished crap and act like sad little money grubbing tools will maybe think twice.

According to Cryptics few remaining fans, no it's not. Rather a ridiculous attitude if you ask me. I mean lets put it another way.
Let's say you get a mobile (cell) phone on contract, you pay £/$15 a month and all the advertisements and the salesmen have listed a dozen amazing features encouraging you to sign up. Except when you get the phone, you find out the service cuts out every other day for hours at a time, half the features aren't present and when you attempt to contact customer support they either hang up or patronise you, telling you it's your fault that you're not enjoying the few features the phone actually has and that no one ever said you would get more. Would you keep paying for the contract, in the hope it somehow vastly improved?
Or would you cancel, and warn everyone you know that the phone company doesnt offer what its advertises?
The people complaining about STO for the most part aren't doing it out of some evil conspiracy to destroy Cryptic. They are complaining because they made the mistake of believing what a company told them but instead of receiving a well crafted product and decent service, they got an empty shell of a game, customer support that disdains its customers and vague promises that it would somehow get better soon. And when they did try to express their complaints in a civil manner, they were either ignored or insulted, told they "didn't get it".
I wouldn't tolerate this attitude from any other company i was paying, so why on earth should we tolerate it from Cryptic?
I've no doubt that some people still believe Cryptic is offering excellent service with STO. But thats because an issue hasn't arose yet that they had a problem with. My own breaking point came when European players couldn't access the game and it took six hours for Cryptic to acknowledge there was an issue. Meanwhile the blues spent that time insulting everyone who complained about the issue, calling them idiots and liars, while the mods did absolutely nothing.
Sooner or later something will arise and you will be on the receiving end of such treatment, perhaps then you will understand why so many of us are disgusted with Cryptic.

What the game companies should do is to look at these posts and spectate what they are really trying to say. And for the fanbois they should not try and talk down or redicule people posting them. But insted try and see if from their view and go from there.
Negative views can be turned around positive for the game if you look at it from the right angle.
My personal view of Star Trek is that they ,just as the game company that made the mmo Lord of the rings took an almost failsafe concept and acually managed to mess it up. Played both games in beta and in retail and bought both of them but I rather play webgames tbh because its not entertaining or fun enough to play.

My father was way different then yours. Mine always told me to never back down when a bully or company tried to screw you over. he said to always fight back and to fight for what you belive in and to stand by your principles. I guess yours did not to bad for you.
Yes STO had horrible launch but it's only been few months since launch. they are already adding alot content after such short period. i do agree it's short on gameplay hours but it will get better with age. how long did it take city of heroes to get deep content more then 3 months thats for sure. let the game grow and if it's still bad in early 2011 then i can understand the compliants but folks it's only been 3 months relax and see where the game goes.
Actually, each archtype had their own starting quests right off the bat. That's still far more content than STO ever had.
Of course it's going to grow, it's going to be several months and then they will come out with an "expansion" that you have to pay extra for. In the meantime they will dribble just enough content as slowly as possible to make people believe it's worth the cost of the monthly fee. The expansion will contain gameplay that they will label "entertainment" and all the excuses will come out why it deserves to be bought as an add on instead of them releasing it as they make the improvements which is what a subscription plan is supposed to pay for in the first place.
Of course these addons are going to be nothing more than a few new models and reused textures over and over for quite a while I'm sure. The same as what happened with city of villains being released like it was another game instead of what it really was, which is a mod of city of hereos.
I think companies should be held to more strict policies on what's included in the initial launch. Seems the grey area is getting broader and broader the more time goes on.

It may seem a little melodramatic sometimes, tbh, until SWG went into meltdown i hadnt really used the forums for other than research purposes, so seeing the current 'fallout' with Cryptic over STO, kind of reminded me of the furore of the NGE, players complaining and numerous i quit statements - actually some were far worse than mere statements but actual hate for individuals involved, so much so that their names are particularly well known because of it.. woe betide any developer who upsets their games playerbase, but... do we complain too easily now, i'm not saying that Cryptic and STO in particular is undeserving of these complaints but... have they become too extreme? Games Developers are probably going to be reluctant to try anything too innovative for fear of being made to look like idiots... or worse.. scoundrels just trying to make a cash grab.. so, while i dont personally think that STO is that good of a game, it might have been a better one given more time and resources - AoC was much the same, but Funcom did fix it eventually, perhaps STO will be 'fixed' in time also, personally i'd like to give Cryptic the benefit of the doubt, that their not such a bad company, but were just doing the best they could with the time/resources they had available, besides, what are the chances of any other MMO company bringing out a Star Trek MMO ... hopefully it wont become the next NGE...
