Question for you - is a paying customer sharing their opinion of a product and a company whining?

Opinion in constructive way? nope not whining but when you indulge in over dramatic tones and emotional outbursts, its hard to take so called opinion seriously. At the end of the day its just a game.... it just a GAME!

Ya, it's just a game. A game that for most of us is played durng those few hours a week we can put aside to enjoy our hobby. That time is valuable to us. It's a game where a great many people followed it's development during those few hours they get. A game they wasted their hard earned money on too.

I guess to you that's nothing though, since most likely your mommy and daddy still buy you everything, but to most of us getting ripped off is a big deal. Ripped off not just in money, but in terms of time wasted following the game's development too. So ya, I want to see Cryptic buried for what they've done so that the next company that thinks they'll put out unfinished crap and act like sad little money grubbing tools will maybe think twice.

I couldn't care less how that offends your little sensibilities either. To me I'm being constructive in helping to get the attitude across to people and these companies that they have to stop pulling this crap. Just how are you being constructive? Ya, that's right, you're not being constructive in any way. You're just shooting your mouth off for nothing.

No my mommy and daddy don't buy me anything, i am 27 years old and buy my own stuff. I guess its my maturity that stop me form being such a drama queen over a vodeo game. Could your post be any more cliche'd and over dramatic? not even one line in your whole post is constructive.

So, anyone at all who complains about STO is being an overdramatic, whiny, cliched, drama queen. Got it. Propaganda Technique #41: Trivialize an opponents position when you can't argue against it.

    Exactly.

Not to mention that this person's posting here is suspiciously similar to the "propaganda" that Cryptic mods, forum shills (Cryptic employees pretending to be regular subscribers), and life timers desperately trying to justify the money they wasted, keep trying to spread over at the STO site.

"Let's all be constructive" translates into  "Let's all pretend that everything is going to be rosy so that we can trick more people into wasting more of their time and money".

And really, what's there to be constructive about regarding STO now anyway? Besides warning others off from wasting their money and valuable time that is. The damage is done. They ruined the game by releasing it at least six months too soon,  and there's no "fixing it". No matter what they do It'll never get a substantial enough population to support truly fun mmo game play now.  It had it's chance and Cryptic/Atari completely blew it. Many of us were nothing but constructive from the day Cryptic announced the game's development, but everything we were telling them regarding making STO a success out of the gate was ignored, and instead they went for the quick money grab.

Anyway, this person is the same sort many of us have dealt with for over a year and a half on the STO forums. They can't properly defend the decisions made by Cryptic, or the game, so instead launch into personal attacks directed at anyone that doesn't toe the Cryptic line in an attempt to shut them up.

funny thing you are complaining about attacking critics' posters and you are attacking the opposite position, just invalidating them by a unproven conspiracy theory. That's is what I call no constructive

"Let's all be constructive" translates into  "Let's all pretend that everything is going to be rosy so that we can trick more people into wasting more of their time and money".

Constructive is saying what part of the games you don't like and how you think they could be better. I pretty much doubt that somebody is going to go broke for a $40 game. Anyway, it might not worth a lifetime subscription but I have seen worst things selling for more.

That's also not constructive. This is always black or white, either sucks or is great, there are a lots shades between them.

Most decisions are debatable, again you are closing the discussions based on your perception of the game is the only possible perception. It might arguably be the "majority's" perception but not the only one. Yesterday, I talked to a member of my SG and I asked him if he liked STO, and he says that he enjoyed recognizing that maybe because he is a casual player.

I actually really enjoy reading the "i quit" threads because they give me a sense of of the negative qualities of a game. Generally through a lot of the hype and what not you hear all of the positive things, and the games official website will only show positives on the main page so you have to look for the truth. Thanks to all the negative criticism I am able to get more of an idea of what the game is like when I look at the good and the bad.

So I say bring on the "I quit" threads and tell us how you feel about the game, and don't hold back.

Constructive criticism has no place for over dramatic, cliched insults and acting like a drama queen, however if you knew about it you wouldn't be arguing here with me. I guess you need to understand first what word CONSTRUCTIVE means? Since when insulting and threats become constructive criicism?

Once again more cliches, seriously dude atleast post something original for a change. Before i was a kid living off my mom and dad and now i am a crptic forum shill. Then you wonder why its hard to take seriously anything you write?

And your last line is hilarious and proves you suffer from short memory loss. Go back and read, it was you who insulted me first not the other way around. But i love your over dramatic posts, must be the end of the world for you since STO didn't live up to your expectations.

I can also post that since you hate STO you are a plant of a rival MMO company but then my posts will be as boring and predicatble as yours.

I insulted you first? You're either delusional, or just a habitual liar being the one with the short term memory loss. It was you that showed up out of the blue spewing insults attacking me and my post .  That, and after reviewing your posting history I see a rather suspicious pattern of you blindly defending Cryptic and STO, but in so doing being able to offer nothing to any discussion criticizing it except personal attacks and insults. I think the discerning reader can check for themselves and see pretty clearly just what you probably are. ;)

I do have to laugh at the fact that even with Cryptics attempts to silence dissent on their forums that the "I quits" are still being posted. Didn't they sticky a thread a few months ago stating that "I Quit" threads would be immediately taken down? Good luck on the game and I'm glad that you enjoy it. Just don't be surprised with the new "I quit" threads that will continue to come with every new crop of players that try the game nor by the lonely feeling you get when trying to find someone to play with.

Wait a minute, weren't you the guy with a Star Trek badge and who was defending it when it was released?

Patterns? only patterns that exist are in your head. I never insulted you, so stop playing the victim now.  You have thrown every cliched insult at me that you can. Moreover, i don't defend Crptic or STO, i am quite a grown up to not indulge in pissing contests like these. The only thing that surprises me is how some people just latch on instead of moving on with their lives.

I have been playing MMO for long time and i yet have to set up a camp on forums of MMO i dislike. I don't understand this mentality because when i don't enjoy something i just move on. Some people over here are so obsessed with Crytpic and everything they do, its like as if that is the only goal in their life. The day i stop enjoying STO i will leave quietly instead of making drama on forums on daily basis.

That's your fist post in the thread. Just so you know, and anyone going through just a bit of your past posting history can see pretty much all you do at this site is troll through various sections trying o pick agrguments with others. Go troll elsewhere please. You're adding nothing to the discussions here. Well except  aiding a dishonest and inept company bilk people out of their hard earned money maybe, but I think that's giving your rather purile efforts too much credit.

And from your post history its quite evdient that all you do is obsesse with Crytpic and do nothing but spread negativity and hatred. How does that make you better then me? Also how can a compnay milk you of your hard earned money? they are not forcing you to pay sub now are they?

Also the post you quoted has no insults directed towards you, it was a comment on your posting style and not about you. But i guess you just need a reason to play victim? i laugh at keyboard warriors like you, whther its SOE or Crytpic every company has its share of obsessive compulsive haters. i bet you got banned at official forums. lol

So i ask again, is it really that hard to move on when you don't enjoy a game? 187 posts just repeating yourself over and over as to how much you hate Crytpic? holy s**** dude!!

@ Shastra....Why do you even care?  Some one hates STO and they talk about it.  So What?  Good god man... do you really get butt hurt this easily?  Move on.  Argueing about it is just going to draw you into a never ending squabble.  Unless you like argueing for the sake of it.

To the OP, I can understand how you are sick and tired of "I quit threads".  However, im sick and tired of all the STO fanboys and the CDF (cryptic defense force), dubbing anyone with any sort of negative feedback a troll.  All you have to do is say "I dont like STO" and you get jumped on.  LOL, the STO forums are pretty toxic.

If you had actually looked at my posting history you'd have seen that most of my posts here have actually been in defense of Cryptic. That was when they were still keeping up the facade of being a development company that cared about putting out a good mmo and respecting the IP though.

You just don't get it. You go off and do what you want to do, that's perfectly fine, but other people don't need to just let these companies get away with ripping us off because you think we should. We've had a string of rather high profile mmos being real diappointments and thus wasting people's time and money because they got rushed out lately. Many people feel it's time to start making the effort to put a stop to these companies doing what they're doing. We're tired of these developers taking us for granted, and taking our money and time with no where near enough value in their product offered in return. This is especially valid in Cryptic's case because they've clearly decided on the business model of deciet during development and then releasing substandard games in quick succesion for quick cash grabs.

You don't like reading these efforts to stamp out the dishonest business practices of companies like Cryptic? Then don't read the threads. What do you care what we say about Cryptic?

  • championsFanchampionsFan Member Posts: 419

The blame doesn't go to Cryptic, it goes to the consumers who buy products blindly without researching them.    All Cryptic did is offer a product, a smart consumer just checks out the product and buys it if they want it.   A foolish consumer buys the product blindly and then complains about a "rip off" or a "deception."

There was abundant information about STO before launch, we need to put the responsibility where it belongs, on the folks who bought the game.   It is their own fault they wasted their money, not Cryptic's fault.

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.

Come on you really dont belive that do you?  The company makes a game and hypes the hell out of it and all the fanbois are singing wine and roses and their are no reviews yet and people buy on faith (which you do with most games) and the game turns out to be utter crap and thats the players fault? WOW you guys are really something.

That's what I mean, anyone who thought the 45 day patch would really make a difference is quite gullible, IMO.  Not really, most of them just wanted so badly for the game to be good that they put aside logic and just used blind faith.

But seriously, is there someone who will admit to thinking that the 45 day patch would transform the game from shite to playable?   Maybe, just maybe, they have never followed an MMO before and they can be excused for hoping that's possible.

The customers who thought the 45 day patch would transform the game are exactly the kind of bad consumers I am talking about.   They just blindly accept a product, and then complain about being deceived.  Open your eyes and look at what you are buying, the deception was minimal, most of these people just made a poor purchasing decision: they wanted the game to be good so they bought it regardless.   That is their fault, they are being irresponsible with their money.

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.

There was abundant information about STO before launch, we need to put the responsibility where it belongs, on the folks who bought the game.   It is their own fault they wasted their money, not Cryptic's fault.

LOL.  An abundant amount of info indeed, though somewhat misleading.

Take the Genesis system for example.... the highly hyped Genesis system that will steadily give players unique exploration content.  You can find star systems before anyone else!  You can even save the coordinates and name the planets if you like, and share those coordinates with others!  Im curious... has anyone ever been able to name a planet.. and save its coordinates?  Much less share them with other players?

This Genesis system just turned out to be an area that spurts out "anomalies" that are pretty much the same 4 or 5 maps over and over and over and over and over.  All the Genesis system gives players are the same 5 missions, on maps that might have more or less asteroids than the last time you saw the map.

They said STO would have a crafting system.  I dont see how upgrading an item from a white to a blue is "crafting" at all.  Its just ........upgrading lol.

And yes.. ultimatley you are right though.  It is our fault we purchased the game, as it was our own decision.  What a waste of money that was.

I agree that the customer is responsible for what he/she is buying, but that doesn't make Cryptic any less guilty. For example, just because someone tricks you and steals your money, that doesn't mean he isn't a criminal. People should check and be realistic when buying, but Cryptic has deserved every bit of criticism.
