APB sub is nothing new its nothing interesting its greed. was f2p now its p2p. You will stop playing this game in 2 months. maybe a month n'a half when you realize there is nothing left to do. Lemons.
It really is a dull game :[ Run around doing boring missions, having to kill the opposition here and there.
Wont last long
For those wanting scripted NPC enounters maybe, however you're underestimating the fun pvp can offer. Especially to FPSers and console oriented gamers. Call of duty 4 still has lots of servers up and running, a lot of them are still active on a regular basis. BF2 also has many servers still active on a regular basis, that game hasn't recieved anything new in a long long time.
I see APB as an evolution to that style of game, with a GTA flare to it.

So if EA ran their own servers and charged you $10 a month to play BC2 it would be OK?
No, as BC2 offers only PVP maps and a shallow single player campaign. APB offers quite a bit more than that. It might not be suited to what you enjoy in a multiplayer game, and that's okay. However for someone like me who really only plays mmo's for socialization and pvp, it sounds like it might be right up my alley.

I still play Call of duty 4 actively at a high level, its completely different style of game. APB starts off well until you relise your doing the same missions over and over, the pvp is pretty dull aswell

That's an issue for games like GTA, most missions entail the same activities. I wouldn't consider APB to be to much different than your typical FPS though, or a game like gears of war as far as PVP is concerned.
As far as mission go, aren't they just a means to create PVP? If that's the case there's no reason for the mission itself to be complex as the main objective is for it to end in a shootout.
Which sounds like such a system could create some interesting scenarios as far as PVP goes, especially when an instance is full on both sides. Most reports I've read indicate the game has fluid combat mechanics as well as driving mechanics, which are the two most important aspects to a game like this.
It also sports decent custumization mechanics as well as non combat activity, doesn't sound very dull to me.

no its still dull. The game was honestly dull to begin with i was just thinking the whole time "Man smart move they didn't make this game p2p." seeing as how that no longer exists the only reason most people will play it now is to see if its worth a monthly fee. in which case the company will realize what a huge mistake they made at which they will introduce micro transactions. And so on and so forth.
First off its not a true MMO, its a CO game (similar to Guild Wars), the Payment method is ridiculous, this is not the kind of game you want to pay a subscription for, it's a game you want to have on your shelf that you can start it up and play it any time you want without have to worry about setting up a subscription...I personally don't think it's the type of game like World of Warcraft where you can put your life into it...It seems like they are just throwing a subscription on top of the game because they can...
I think too many people will be pushed away by a subscription system for this, and the game doesn't have enough hype going for it to get a healthy population otherwise.
Sadly, I do agree with you about the games future... but for different reasons.
From what I have played, the game sort of feels like a watered down GTA experience for me. I loved all the character customization of the game though. I just can't see myself paying more money past the initial purchase fee for the game.

Saying it's dull isn't exactly saying much, what was dull? What are your gaming interests as well as everyone is different? I see you like EVE, I'd assume so anyway. That game can be dull if not played right.. or, if you have no interest in economic gameplay. It is also very dull if you're not the social type.
For someone who likes scripted PVE encounters and interesting mission mock ups, APB sounds like it may be dull. Now for me, I am sick to death of playing boring PVE gameplay for months in order to actually have fun, which for me is PVPing. A game that offers decent social function as well as decent enough PVP mechanics. That allows you to get right into the action and have the fun I appreciate sounds almost as perfect a design as I could expect.

Uhm.... look into my profile, what do i like now? regardless, you actually sit through boring PvE just to get to PvP? that sounds like a huge waste of money right there maybe MMOs aren't for you. And the game IS dull past the cars music and character customization the game offers nothing but Kill 5 giant spiders over and over and over again. Doesn't matter if these spiders are player characters. When the time comes for you to cough up 10 more dollars a lot of people are not going to do it. doesn't matter what you are doing. most aren't going to.
First off its not a true MMO, its a CO game (similar to Guild Wars)
Who cares?
the Payment method is ridiculous
Actually, I really like it.
this is not the kind of game you want to pay a subscription for, it's a game you want to have on your shelf that you can start it up and play it any time you want without have to worry about setting up a subscription.
well, the pay by hour model (with optional sub method) lets you do that.. you know, the payment method you said was ridiculous, even though it answers this issue of yours.
I personally don't think it's the type of game like World of Warcraft where you can put your life into it.
Who says it is trying to be? Who says it needs to be?
It seems like they are just throwing a subscription on top of the game because they can... I think too many people will be pushed away by a subscription system for this
I disagree. I think a lot will see that the payment options represent good value and a nicely flexible approach for the casual user.
and the game doesn't have enough hype going for it to get a healthy population otherwise.

What does this post have to do with the question I asked? I asked what was dull, you replied again with it's dull..
I'm asking for an explanation on what was dull, also listing off every game you've played doesn't exactly say what you enjoy either. In most games there are different things to take part in, you could be a full blown crafter for all I know.
As for your question yes modern MMO's really aren't for me.
I've been playing MMO's for a long time, so I find typical pve mechanics ( with typical MMO combat) boring at this point. Most games have a been there done that feeling to them. That's why I'm interested in trying something different.Right now I play AOC, which I don't find the PVE boring in, as I find the combat a little on the fresh side.
As for what do I do when I'm out of time in APB? I decide if I liked it enough to sub.
BTW, I found your profile to be a tad on the WTF side... LOL

Ok, I have to throw my 2 cents out here. I've played MMO's since early UO, including WoW. For someone to say that a game is going to fail duing beta, is a load of crap. I forget how many posts I saw during Fallen Earth's beta about how it was crap and going to fail, well guess what, its still here, maybe not your cup of tea, but its going strong. I'm still amazed at how many people will act like lemmings when it comes to what games to play, hell if i listened to half of the forum posts all I would ever play is WoW, but I actually have a brain and try things for myself. Several of my friends are in the APB beta, and Iv'e gotten to sit and watch them play, and even tho I may never try it, it doesn't mean its bad, it actually looks interesting.

Indeed you cannot simply say the game will 'fail' when its still got a while til launch. However that said I personally feel that sense of repetition within hours, and can see the numbers falling quite significantly after the first month or 2 past launch. But I feel the game will craft a niche, there will certainly be those who are really into the game and stick with it, much like a previous poster gave the example of Fallen Earth. The masses will fall away but the game won't 'flop', it'll continue to go steady no doubt for quite some time aslong as they keep on supporting it with content.
It's so dissapointing that they are charging for it. I think I will buy Global Agenda instead, as that does not have a monthly fee for the non-conquest things.
I will also get into GTA4 and GTA San Andreas online instead.

Thats just me though heh.
I would too, but that doesn't justify the cost...I pay anywhere from $20-60 a month to play an online racing game, and the only reason is because it's realism makes Forza or the next best racing game feel like Mario Kart. The only reason is because there is nothing else like...Granted the game I play is a smaller company, and it cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars to laser scan tracks and engineer cars, the cost is a bit more warranted than what APB is charging. I think APB is just charging a monthly subscription because they can...not because they need to.
It's greed and it's the reason why first person shooters will have monthly subs in a year or 2....MW2 would have a subscription already if not for Xbox live also requiring one.
and for the record my track record is pretty good, I said AoC and WAR would flop, I said Aion wouldn't...although it semi-did, but that was because of bad patches that changed the core of the game. Ironically I quit Aion because it sucked, and now I'm playing AoC which I think is the best MMO on the market since all of the problems have been fixed and improved...
APB will appeal to the MW2/Halo/GTA4 crowd more than the WoW/WAR/AIon crowd, most console players are still hung up on "lol @ paying for a game i already own". Guild Wars sold 10 million boxes, I guaranteed it wouldn't have reached a fraction of that with that style of online district gameplay if it had a monthly sub.
Plus everyone I know playing APB on districts capped at 50% say the game is unbearable with lag half the time they play, and that the game is simply not going to be ready for a june release (it doesn't even have proper hitboxes! how can you enjoy shooting someone 3 times in the face without killing them, but killing someone else with a shot to the foot?) and that even though the game is a blast, there simply isnt enough content to warrant playing it actively like you would a MMO like WoW, Aion, EVE, etc... Like I said GTA4 or APB is the game I want sitting on my shelf that I can hop on any time I feel like, not one where I want to worry about having time or a subscription for.
I don't think this game is trying to get MMO fans hooked anyway. It is aiming for GTA fans. If they are willing to pay for the game like MMO players or not is a different thing but we wont know that until the game is out.
I think it can work but few of us in this forum will play it. FPS and GTA fans are however a rather large crowd and if they play their cards right the game could be big.
But it is very hard to tell.
I think that's why there's such an uproar over this, right there. This game is targeting an audience that isn't used to paying subscriptions. They usually play games like GTA and COD, and can't see why APB would require a subscription when those other online games don't. You can explain it over and over, but they're just so used to playing for free that it doesn't even matter if it makes sense or not. It's more like it just rubs them the wrong way, regardless.
I'm used to paying subscriptions, and don't really give it much thought, except there's another side to APB being more of an action game. If it lacks the progression of traditional MMOs, then what are players expected to pay for? What difference does it make to the player, that it's a persistent online world, if our characters aren't leveling up? Or progressing, or gaining much of anything?
I think for a lot of MMO players, we pay for those servers to hold onto our characters xp, skills, loot, etc, etc, as we gather more and more. APB is in an unusual situation of needing subscriptions from players, for the game to be financially successful, yet doesn't offer what people pay other MMOs for. It's a tough situation, and I think the current payment model is probably just about the best they can do to try to make the most of it.
Basically you are paying for server stability and maintainance. The amount of customization in this game is enormous. Almost no player would be able to afford to host a dedicated server effectively with the amount of lag all the customizations cause. Guild Wars, BF, CoD, and GTA combined do not have 1/8 the customization this game has. If customization is important to you, then it's worth the money. If it isn't then you might as well play Halo or Call of Duty.
Also, I assume they plan on releasing updates and new content fairly regularly
