Ill start playing at or soon after its release because I like the IP, and I like Bioware games. If it turns out to be less than stellar or not what I expected, then I will stop playing for a bit and wait for more stuff to be added and hope it becomes better. Chances are though Im going to enjoy it. If not.... oh well.
Even if it ends up feeling single playerish, I believe the world will be immersive enough that it'll keep my interest.
Just thinking about lopping 50 droids heads with my lightsaber or taking down a herd of bantha with my dual blasters.
Seriously, desptie all the little complaints, this game isn't coming out with any major holes that will make it unplayable. It has balanced sides, it has different classes with freedom to customize and it has a massive universe that creates an entirely differnet look and feel based on what planet you are on.
I believe its going to be magnificent.
Ugh...at some point Devs will look outside the box.
At the moment I am not sure. I think I would because it;s Bioware and Star Wars BUT the graphics are a bit underwelming to be honest and as another thread has pointed out WHERE'S THE STARS in this Star Wars game? Space, adventuring and flight should be in from the start.
So on the fence to be honest I will wait and see, I hope they nudge me over.
THE SECRET WORLD - PAY ONCE PLAY FOREVER - Give it a go!
I'll wait for a review(like always for a game I haven't beta tested) and see what kind of rating the game gets. Depending on the score, I'll either play or won't.
I will almost surely play it. I love Star Wars and have confidence in Bioware. Also, they have some new things they are trying out that I want to experience.
Of course, my willingness to try it doesn't mean I might not quit in 20 minutes if I think it sucks. I could build a treehouse out of games I bought that I quit.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests
Going to wait at least a month after it launches. i just got burned by buying into the STO hype and got clipped 60 bucks for it and i am not going to be making that mistake again.
I will definitely play it, pre-order it even. I love Bioware, love Star Wars, loved KOTOR and I like the stylized art style. However, I don't love the people around here who assume they know everything, have no faith whatsoever, find every chance they get to bash the game for some reason or another and just go on babbling making them look ignorant.
I'm going to try it. I want to see what Bioware does in the realm of MMO's. I generally like their games, so I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about this one.
I will definitely be playing this game. The main reason is because Bioware is making it. I have loved almost every single Bioware game and I am confident that they know how to make a successful game. Even though this is their first MMO, Bioware has shown time and time again that they can step into a new genre and master it.
Then there is the fact that this game is Star Wars... another big plus for me. And it is set in the KOTOR time period, which I also very much enjoy.
@Betaboo - Bioware is absolutely nothing like Cryptic. Every game they produce is of the highest quality. Cryptic's games are just re-hashes of the same crap over and over again with different skins. They are completely dead creatively and I will never pay them another cent.

God, that felt good.
I know as much about the game as anyone.
I love Star Wars and Kotor too. Which is why I want Kotor 3.
Not kotor 3 with a monthly fee and hub worlds to give the illusion of an MMO. That's what GW does, and they don't charge a monthly fee, cause they know its bogus.
I'll play it from launch and I will bring 8 other players (friends/family).
Why? Because I own all Boiware games and have yet to be disappointed.
I watched the first Star Wars movie in theaters back in the 70s (and the rest of them) and loved the series ever since.
The story from Knight of the Old Republic is just as interesting as the original. And seeing a bunch of Jedi.Sith running around in this game won't be as bad as it was in Galaxies.
Not worries about space combat , I am sure it will be added in later, like Galaxies, I hope it will be more like X-Wing vs Tie Fighter.
So in a nutshell, I am a Star Wars geek and will always be one!

See that, that's what we call an assumption. Where did you hear that it will be a hub system like Guildwars? Certainly not from official channels. I would know where you came up with this mess. There are signs of phasing in the background in some of the videos and pictures, you don't use phasing in a MMO using the hub system, I mean what would be the point of that? The worlds will be just like any other MMO, in which you can see other people in and outside of the cities.

Er, most other MMOs work where you can see players EVERYWHERE. Seems the big hype machine for this game emphasizes the story, which all takes place in scripted instanced zones with your NPC party, or friends you already know from outside the game. So, more like GW and Diablo.
"Inside of outside of the cities" is pretty much EVERYWHERE. We've seen videos and pictures that have red walls which I have already suggested phasing, you don't phase in hubs. There are instances, yes. They are scripted, of course, they'd be horrible and non-immersive if they weren't. You can't have an NPC in your party, yes. You can have friends in your party, you bet. However, I still want to know where you get the idea that it'll be a hub system. Where did they say that? Where is that hinted at? I just want confirmed proof.
Like I said, there are too many assumptions running around, this hub system is one of them.

Why is that necessary at all?
The way it works is: you engage in dialogue, it shows you talking to the guy like in Mass Effect and blurs out anyone standing in the background, conversation finishes: you're back to where you were with other people running around.
Big cinematic moments: those take place in instances like they should.
In the end: 90% of game is open.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
You must have said this very thing while Blizzard was developing WOW. Because they havent yet, does not mean that they can't or it won't be successfull when they do.

I won't be playing because
I hate instances
I really dislike the 2003 tech graphics
I dislike linear MMOs
I don't like playing a monthly fee/item shop for a mostly single player game.
I'll wait for a review(like always for a game I haven't beta tested) and see what kind of rating the game gets. Depending on the score, I'll either play or won't.

I'm set on trying it mainly for the story/the lore. If it turns out to be another mindless grind/raid MMO like WoW than I doubt I'll subscribe.
I'll be playing it. Why? I like the Kotor universe, and Bioware makes good games.

Yes. Why? Kotor, BioWare, finally some hint of storytelling in an mmo, looking good.

No, I have a doctor's note to excuse me due to my crippling phobia of Star Wars nerds.
The morning sun has vanquished the horrible night.
They make good linear single player games.
They've yet to try making an MMO.
Don't assume they're even remotely similar.
Irony. Someone on a games forum calling people nerds...

Too early to say. If it has space combat and a decent crafting system or meaningful PvP - I'd try it for sure.

I'll try it out. If its good I will play. If not I won't. Pretty simple stuff, really.
