Ouch.  If that's true, you're looking at about... 170-200 people on at any given time?  Unless there's only one server and that server only has one area that's about the size of Bree in LotRO, that's gonna be one empty game.  Unless subbers are all waiting for some reason.

    Have a link?

Buried somewhere at F13 or WA. I'm not saying it's true, but that's something like what he said.

They also said that only 16% of people stick with WoW past level 10 or something like that.

If the rate of retention is so low then it says to me that they better sell a hell of a lot more boxes than they have so far.

Here is a quote from Mark right around the time warhammer released

Our retention rate is higher than 70% based on current data. DAoC was indeed 72% in North America. WAR's number is higher and remains higher than DAoC since billing began. I'm quite happy with WAR's numbers as they are exactly what I expected they would be.

That seems more realistic for a successful game.  And DAoC was succesful (not compared to EQ at the time.. but it was still a success and is still alive today).

    What an interesting thought...

If a person is worried about what other people do with their time... wouldn't doing something else mean they probably are not all that worried?

You are better off rephrasing that I think... or just directly telling me something like:

"Go spend your time doing something else instead of posting in these forums."

Which, if you look at the forum we are in and that I kind of like MO, wouldn't make sense.

I think i'll continue to kindly offer to show people (who do not have anything nice or constructive to say about MO) the door out. I'm certain there are other MMOs in this world that won't make them so unhappy.

I am not going to invest any time in a non FFA PVP game . .. and Darkfall is the best out there by far imho. Do not even compare it to MO because they are totally different .. .

Well see how MO turns out .. . I am absolutely positive that I will not be playing if (maybe not even IF it succeeds). Darkfall's controls and combat is so much funner, I would only consider MO if Darkfall died.

I tried to figure out how to call a guard in MO for about an hour FFS (even did several google searches and going through their 'help' section and just got fed up with wasting time). I do not want to waste time getting lost in the woods and emptiness or anywhere for that matter, but I do prefer not having a map on my screen for a more realistic look (but can just turn off maps in other games and at least I am not lost).

Is there no sprint in this game? Seriously? I couldn't handle 'walking' or whatever for 2 hours trying to find a bank (no I didn't pick the first option to spawn, I picked a random one). I got impatient and tried to fall a little and died LOL spirit was there looking around to see no shrine or whatever ANYWHERE. Hrmm . .. should I spend another 2 hours wandering around in spirit looking to get a res? I think not . ..

And then the pigs? Seriously? Starting mobs are pigs . ..

I don't mean to bash it as it really has a cool concept but then I played it. Maybe I would feel differently after a couple months of playing just like I did with Darkfall.

It is a shame though . .. I was really excited to try it out . .. I remember my friend (who is dead now) going off about how cool it will be back in like 2002?

Don't worry friend, the long awaited "April Patch" which will fix the desync and allow them to launch.. has been released.   Well.. it was released. and then removed because it was "unviable" ( didn't work).  Speaking of which.. it's not a patch but rather a complete new download of the game.  I've lost count about how many times this game has had to be downloaded from scratch.

I'm sure a new "viable" patch (which isn't a patch) will soon be uploaded by Moe.

Riddle me this Batman... if they are REALLY making a profit even in the quarters of beta testing.. how does this matchup with their REPEATED statements that they have to launch the game ASAP and in a less than desireable state because they are running out of money?

    2+2=5?

With the Starvault team doing the last minute overhauling of the system to get rid of the desync issues I think a lot of people are using a 'wait and see' approach.

I pre but not until block E, and I haven't touched the game in over a month because there is no point to it right now. Everything is going to get wiped so I don't want to build up a lot in beta.

Too many people have been burned on launch hype in recent years. The MO community has made this clear to Starvault, and they are well aware if they releas the game with its current issues it would flop. I just hope they can get over here to America to get working on it soon, cuz I bought the damn thing quite a few months ago and I want to start enjoying it.

The numbers don't really amount to squat right now - they're not a magic ball revealing the future of MO.

I was one of those who pre-ordered (sight unseen) but after testing the beta, have no desire to play the final product (my copy was put on ebay just the other day - I was going to hang onto it thinking that if they didn't ever release this one, I'd have a nice little collector's item  to display with my UO 3rd Dawn disk  -  ha ha).

I know quite a few people who will be ordering after release (as another posted stated, they're simply tired of being burnt with game cancellations and/or delays with pre-orders). In fact, most of the people I know who pre-order only do so for Collector's Editions these days.

Times change, quarterly reports don't reflect any MMO's future like they once did.  It's just a "wait and see" gamble.

Why do you say "last minute overhauling" when the game has been laggy and getting crazy desync since block A?  Open beta has been lagging out for months now, and they are just NOW starting to try and fix it?  Are you kidding me?

    Questions for the fans:

    1) How many times do they have to screw up for the fans to start asking questions?  image

    2) How long will you guys just ignore how bad a disaster this game is?  image

In all fairness they have been working on the sync issue forever.  But, they have been unable to do so.  Its possible the issue can not be fixed.

They are already in the US at Epic and have already moved the game over to the new version of Unreal Engine and Atlas.  The CEO announced that the game is in teh final release phase and after short test phase will be launched.  They just published the long awaited April Release build.  If you are interested in the game you should definately check it out and see for yourself.

'tis a pity, really. The game looks really interesting. Its a little sad when a small independant studio takes on a huge project (that looks awesome) and runs into such problems. I kind of want to try the game, but I'm kinda cautious of buying when there are so many problems.

No need to buy it.  Go try the free open beta today and decide for yourself.  Just be sure to NOT input any credit card info or you may accidentally purchase it.  Just make an acct and download the latest version of the game from the www.mortalonline.com website.

So everyone on this website wants a niche MMO, but when a company tries to make one, no one supports it and ridicules the company for it? i see.

I can't speak for "everyone on this website" but personally I don't "want a niche MMO".   I simply want a good one.  If it's a niche or not doesn't matter.

IMHO game companies don't deserve support.  I'm simply a consumer looking for a product.  If I wanted to support a cause there are lot's of ones out there that are more deserving of charity than a game company.

I completely disagree, to be quite honest I think such an opinion hurts the genre as a whole (as it seems a lot of people think this way). This isn't about supporting a cause, you're right about that. It's about supporting the hobby you're interested in. With no support from the community these companies (indie) wither and die, it's as simple as that.
