I wouldn't say it is grindy, as in you have hundreds of monsters to kill or items to pick up for quests/rewards/skills etc. There is plenty of quest to do if that is your preferred way to get rewards. However, you can grind, and some people do it (and enjoy it?). The rewards from grinding may be a bit higher per hour than questing, but it is mindlessly boring...
For me, and for most of my guild, we tend to spend a whole night trying out the new dungeons, getting the tactics down, attempting hard modes, and so on. There are a few who wants it all and wants it now, and they spend 12-14 hour sessions grinding for it. To each their own, I play my way they play theirs.
Meh, seems like the PvP is still at all time rubbish state, that it has been since the brand new "PvP slayer Sirilinnion" took over. I'd really like to see a full-on PvP zone that has nothing to do with mining and crap like that, let's hope it happens when the current main-guy gets shit-canned like the previous one.
Has anyone noticed the changes after todays patch? Faction xp from quests, tokens and insignia drops have apparently almost all been doubled. Least that's what people on the forums are reporting, I haven't been on yet to ask my guildies.

You either have a handful of players quit because of what they intepret as excessive grinds, or you have a mass exodus of players quit once they get everything they want.
I do agree that it was excessive though, I think they were erring on the side of caution to prevent some unseen issue where everyone was full geared out in new faction armor within a few weeks. They released a patch today that basically halves the time required to obtain stuff. Although the grinds are still fairly signficant, they are atleast reasonable now.
The reason its a grind is they didnt include enough content to keep you busy. The Tigers faction has 1 repeatable quest at Rank 0. So you have to either run it 50 times to get Rank 1, kill 800 or so of their enemy faction, or grind out repeatable non faction quests for tokens to turn in for faction rep. SImply adding 10 more quests (as lame as they are - kill 10 rats) would have at least given you some variety.
A better system would have been a long chain of story line quests, at the end of which you gain a rank, and get a faction peice of gear. But, instead faction gear costs extreme amounts, which means grinding out more content to even afford one peice of an 8 piece set, at the lowest quality.
It is a grind if you play as you describe. However if you play the other quests including the generic ones (not allighed to any faction) you get Imperial Insignias whcih you can trade in for faction points.
So there is a chain (albeit likely not as long as you would like) in which you can gain faction points/ranks.
There is some grind in this xpax though I would concede.
THE SECRET WORLD - PAY ONCE PLAY FOREVER - Give it a go!
I was enjoying the level 20/40 part of the expansion, even though the rewards were junk, that was up to the point that the whole thing became about culling massive amounts of the local wildlife.
It's all in what you make of it. People that want instant gratification and think that the only way to get there is to grind the same quests over and over are going to come on the internet and whine about the grind. I have not grinded at all or done a repeatable quest more than a couple times and I almost have one faction to rank 3 of 4 already and I have almost 300 insignias.
I just play, experience the content, and have fun. Guess what? I am enjoying the hell out of the expansion. It isn't Funcoms job to make a game that holds your hand 100% of the time and makes it fun for you. If you want that go play WoW. There is a wide open area and lands to explore and partake in and you can do everything in a number of ways. If you punish yourself by grinding when you don't like to grind then come here and complain how do you expect people to take you seriously.
Anyway, Funcom is listening and are upping the rewards across the board for faction quests. They already said numerous times they would be watching the progression and tweaking rewards.
Well, then do tell us your secret. How did you get to rank 1 (much less 2) without doing repetitive content? Tiger Faction, rank 1 is 50,000 faction standing. There is ONE quest you can do, for which you get about 1000 rep at most for killing the cheng-ho, plus 2000 at most for completing the quest. PLus a few tokens. I beleive theres a couple non repateables to start, so lets say you have 7000 without repeating. Where does the other 43,000 come from? And then next rank is 200k!

Ive done that, and dungeons, and just random exploration and killing. There is no way to get around the lack of faction quests. repeatable Rank 0 in grasslands:
Wolves -5
brittle blade - 3
tigers - 1
yag-kosh - 2
legion - 2
Its actually better to just grind out the generic quests for insignias than actually work for a faction. You still have to do them 20 or so times to get enough.
Eve is the only one I can think of. You could consider getting ISK a grind (mining, missions, exploration). But thats by choice. Its a sandbox so you can easily just go play. The purpose of AOC however is to run quests and get gear. Everythign is geard towards some sort of level, which means grind.

Always liked that about Eve. If ya wanna grind, you can grind on rocks all day for ISK, but flying through space, floating in it, or blowing up rats all yield the same XP.
It's good to see the rosy glasses for the new xpac come off to get a realistic hint of what living in Hyboria for the next year or so will be like. Looks like another one I'll play for a month or so when it comes down in price.

Eve has a huge grind. Also what purpose of Eve without any isk? logoff and wait a month for a skill to finish?

I thought everyone hated WoW. Sure are a lot of people defending the WoW playstyle.
Are we talking about a Faction/token grind comparison? Pretty much every MMO has them these days in some form or another, and WoW's faction grinds are a joke compared to 90% of the other MMOs on the market. Seems to me like your just trying to stir up a hornets nest.
And lets be honest, most people just hate on WoW because its popular and for some reason its cool to hate on popular stuff, especially on the internet.

Not played for a while, but have they given up on the pvp aspect of the game. Reading through the posts it seems to be morphing into a mini wow. Think I'll stick to the more adult enviroment of eve online, and the non grind. Good luck to those who enjoy that style of game though =]

This is why you can't have a balanced PvE/PvP game.
PvE is safer and easier to balance, so more people are drawn to it, and the devs are responsible to please the majority of their customers.
As far as leveling and end game are concerned - PvP games have to be entirely PvP.

They say they will refocus on improving PvP after handling some bug fixes and class rebalances.

EVE not a grind? I seriously loled. Boggled by this statement rofl. Conan has nothing to do with warcraft. What is it you are looking for pvp wise that you havent found on a pvp server? Or do you get facerolled and ragequit like so many others who can't comprehend the systems?

Are there any MMORPG's that do not have grind?
Funcom is already on the ball.

I still think their socialist upbringing gives them reason to think people will want to work hard for the challenge of it with little rewards.
Move to the states!.. ok.. bad timing..
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.

The GDP/capita is $56.500 and the average work year 1328 hours (also 5 weeks paid vacation). Productivity per hour is the second highest in the OECD.
So, you are completely off track and demonstrabrly wrong in every claim made.

Then WTF are you doing playing an MMORPG??
Seriously, if you don't have time for the game, don't play it. But don't expect the game to be changed to cater to you.
Hell I've even had points in my life where I was too busy to play MMORPGS. I simply didn't play them until I had more time.
In fact, the reason I play AoC now is because my work schedule doesn't give me enough free time to play Darkfall.
