Hmm... in the trailer I can see only Marines and Orks... I have a bad feeling about this... I won't let it get to me tho....
Still waiting for the official presentation.
If this turns out to be a 2-faction thing with (gasp) emphasis on "story" and PvE....
I just hope to god they didn't draw all the WRONG conclusions on why WAR failed..
In the trailer there are Chaos Marines (Khorne), Space Marines (Black Templars) and Space Orkz. That's 3 factions right there. The only worry as I see it is that THQ/Vigil starts the artificial alliance crap that Mythic did with WAR.
All armies fight all armies.
That's the way to do it.
Hmm.. yupp, I missed the chaos marines somehow.
I agree that each race for itself (or a shifting alliance system) might be the best lorewise, but a 3-faction thing would be ok too, both for Old World and 40k (order vs chaos vs we-don't-give-a-crap-who-we-fight).
However, each race for itself might pose a problem gameplaywise - like it complicates open/persistent world PvP immensely and it does separate playerbase a lot. I could see it work in a game that is heavily instanced tho.. But maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing if we would have a one-server world like GW1 for example with battleground planets where alliances shift constantly. Who knows?
I think the most important thing for this title is the ability of devs to think outside of the box for this IP because I can tell you that the traditional MMO ways are NOT going to work for WH40K. For starters, Space Marines are ridiculously overpowered compared to the rest of the individual units - how do you do the old one player - one avatar thing with this? And there's a lot of other considerations as well. Imo a FPS/MMORPG crossover with a lobby into a huge number of instanced, more-or-less prermanent battlegrounds and PvE areas would work the best. I'm saying this even tho hugely prefer open world to anything instanced - it's just closer to the nature of the IP imo. I know I'll play GW2 mainly for open world experience especially open world PvP, but WH40K... hmm... we'll see what they do with it.
god im already sick of the same old stuff.."ehehehehe it looks like WoW"
anyway the little 2 second of in play with the ui on an such was really nice to see.. and man i can not wait to get in the driver seat of some of those machines
I know, right? The game looks almost exactly like DOW1 - 2, and yet folks complain it looks like WoW. It looks nothing like WoW. The art style is completely different, and those who can't tell otherwise honestly should go see an optometrist.
Honsetly, the whole, 'It looks like WoW DURRRR', being used to insult things is getting really, really old.
Agree, it almost is an every day response to most games of late. The problem is most of the WoW folks don't know anything about 40 k or the influences they had on the creation of WoW. However, I could care less about those people, just give me damn Eldar to play in the near future and I will be thrilled!

^ this.
Plus, the "starting" 3 factions are also the most popular table-top factions. Based on sales at least.
Also, I thought I saw some IG in there. May have been scout marines though.
Anyway, I so excited. That's the alpha footage ( I presume) and it already looks amazing. I have such high hopes for this game. I hope that a GW IP finally gets the love and attetion it deserves.
Yep, those in the green and Khaki are Imperial Guardsmen. You can tell by them not having the over-sized shoulderpads with a chapter marking on them in addition to the skull w/wings emblem on their helmets and that they are using lasguns.
So yeah, 4 factions (potentially) as of now have been shown.

Hmm, the guardsmen do not look very lively tho. I suspect they are support NPC troops for the marines... which is interesting in itself. Maybe they're mixing NPCs into the PvP mix? (like base guards or smtn) Or is it a PvE shot?
.. and what is that magelike thing in white pyjamas in one of the last gameplay shots?

Just a bit of speculation, but I don't believe the Marines are Black Templars. The icon's right, but the colors are all wrong... I suspect this will prove to be a new chapter created specifically for the MMO, ala the Blood Ravens from Dawn of War. Probably even a successor Chapter to Black Templars, hence the shared Icon. Though according to 40K lore there is that Black Templar Crusade that went off into space hunting Ghagzhkull Thraka, maybe it's these guys and they picked up a new color scheme along the way? Looking forward to learning more!
Also: I'm hoping the gameplay's more action twitch like Tabula Rasa than anything else... while most of that game sucked, I did love running around with a shotty and blowing the crap out of things.
I don't know that the colors are all wrong. If you look at 00:29 of the footage and see the three marines there, it's red, white and black. Yes, their actual power armour looks a little more greyish than black, but I can't remember a MMO that did black right except for Ultima Online when it comes to avatar "clothing".
I'm not saying your theory couldn't be right, mind you. I'm open to it totally. My initial point was that there are multiple factions shown in the clip and that I hope THQ/Vigil actually utilize them to the fullest and not do the WAR alliance shuffle.

Hmm, could be PvE. Or maybe they had the 4 players stand their to frame the shot? Or maybe IG players get a 3 man npc squad to help keep them balanced with a single Space Marine (like what you talked about in your last post)?
If it was PvE, though, wouldn't we have seen the Tyrannid? Last I heard that's what they were in for, though I'd like to see them playable.

there will be blood angels! Now I can die in peace
DId you read this somewhere else? There were no Blood Angels in that movie. Only Khorne Chaos Marines and the only Space Marine Chapter present were the Black Templars (not in their customary Black and White but you can see their Templar Cross icon).
the red power armor suits were the blood angels, I suppose.
the only alternative to the red outfit would be the world eaters, and that armors were standard imperium suits, no traces of chaos signs anywere.
Actually, graphics wise, it looks a lot like WAR not WoW. Gee, I wonder why.
Only thing that stood out to me was the targeting reticle(I like that) and the flying vehicles(like that too) otherwise, it looks pretty similar, in style at least to WAR. As long as the gameplay is deep and more diverse, and more about the "world", immersion and all that, no bottlenecking pvp areas, etc. then I'm all for this.

BR's shoulderpads are white or yellow. I think the only pure red outfits belong to blood angels or world eaters

Can you imagine tooling around in a Leman Russ or a Baneblade? ;D
Looks nothing like wow ^^

Baneblade DROOL.......................... Hope we get Imperium as 1 faction and Marines and IG are part of it, like goblins and orks in WAR.
Looks good so far, don't skimp on the UI!

At 00:57 into the trailer, just showing for a sec is that a Eldar Farseer?

Looks to me that he has imperium markings, so i doubt it

Hottdigity damn! 3PS-action = win!
I always hope'd they'd go the "shooter" route on this baby and my god did they deliver!

Judging by the Skull icon that fits as a belt on his waist I'd say Chaos Sorcerer.
Two different Chaos Sorcerers from the official GW site there with skulls on waist.
Farseer with warlocks (in red) and two other individual Farseers. No Skulls at waist present.
Course, this is considering THG/Vigil goes WYSIWYG.

Your all easily pleased. Its a well put together video but thats it.
its a hell lot more than we have known for the past 2 years
and as far as we know the game still has 2 years of development ahead, so I guess there's room for improvement
