I want 14 day trial of eve, not a limited version, if it takes longer in rl to train skills, i want to see that , i don't want a candy coated version, if they want my money i want to know what im spending it on.
also, everybody looks at me like im the troll. everybody defends how great of a job EvE has done at getting rid of all this exploitability, yet they still defend the restrictions. they have a full account and no restrictions to think of, why try and hinder the ability for advancement in the game if it doesn't effect them. and if it does effect them, that's when it's time for the dev team to make decissions, not time for the new customers to suffer.
But letting us have free cyno alts would be gamebreaking Uzieb.. but letting a new player train to become a cyno, and covert op pilot should not take him 3 months. So by restricting the Trail I cant make a free cyno alt and you can still if you decided to become a full paying customer train it fast and be usefull....
The other way to do it is to move the skill deeper into the skill Tree... making it Impossible to train on a trail. But if you dicided to become a full paying customer it would take you alot longer to train it, slowing down your progression in the game.
So what do you think? slower training or some small limits to your Trail time? I think most plyers would prefer to have a limit to the trail then slowing thier potential progresssion down.
Some skills are powerfull in EVE I think new players should be glad that they are not so deep into the skill tree that they can actually lern them within 14 dayes play time.
One reason the trial has these restrictions is that a gold farmer with 10 computers and a decent macro could do the following with 100 trial accounts.
1. Run a large mining operation with hulks and haulers for free.
2. Run missions for free
3. Gank low level Empire players and loot them for free.
The main cause of this problem was that in 14 days you could easilly train up to use the right ships to do these things and have time left to do them so to stop this market breaking action CCP added restrictions in what you could do. This has had the effect of stabaising sections of the market that were being broken by mass produced gold farmer goods which were a lot cheaper than player made stuff.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
Of that we can agree on, for sure this topic is dead.
thanks everybody for your imput , your all very passionate about your game , even if they are charging you just because they can, for what they are charging you im not sure , but rest assured, if i didn't see any restrictions on the trial I would be an upgrade account holding zombie just like the rest of you.
Goodluck all!
*hurry up GW2, I can't take it anymore*

"they are charging you just because they can, for what they are charging you im not sure , but rest assured, if i didn't see any restrictions on the trial I would be an upgrade account holding zombie just like the rest of you."
The OP obviously never had the intention of subbing to the game. If it wasnt the "free trials are restricted" it would be "I'd like 21 days instead of 14", or some other irrelevant bullshit.
look who's calling the kettle black, yes i have played for more than a couple minutes, the wife tried the 14 day thing a couple years back and she had nothing but problems with it, I played for a bit but wasn't sold on the fact that we would be getting our money worth so i jsut chalked it up to another money grubber. i tried it again this last week for a couple days and started running inot restriction very soon , all the bugs seemed worked out but i was still not sold.
now i wasn't the one that said exploits and hackers and multiple account, i just was wondering why they had to restrict me, was it because there were aspects of the game they didn't want me to see. perhaps the game balances out realy quick and they think aspects like that may drive people away, or maybe people don't like the long ass grinding games. I just don't like being asked to make decissions on only part of the info.
you guys are the ones that said it cause of gold farmers wrecking the game/ multiple accounts and such, so truly thanx for the insight, that's exactly what i suspected but wasn't certain, you confirmed it for me. even thought your calling names and blaming for silly posts your getting the information out on the forums so people can get more information on a game that has a shady trial.
The trial is not limited because they have something to hide. There is literally nothing to hide, and even if they wanted to hide something, they couldnt because EVE is very well known in the MMORPG community. Limitations only exist to prevent abuse and exploits. As other have already pointed out, these limitations actually make sense, for CCP, for the game, and for the playerbase.
It's not hard to understand. Again, there is nothing "shady", maybe EVE is not for you, but don't blame the trial for that. The trial is just that, an opportunity to see the game before you subscribe.
And beside, isn't it pretty common to limit your trial? I know WoW trial is limited to lvl 20 or something.
restrictions are not as common as you think, i've played MMO"s that have zero restrictions other than the 14 DAY TRIAL like they advertise. you play the game like anybody else and when you go to play on the 14th day your asked to upgrade your account. Doesn't matter if your level 1-100, or if you have 1 gold or 1,000,000 gold if you don't click accept the credit agreement the character is frozen and is unable to go any further. that to me is the true trial, do i want to keep paying for this game so i can intereact with that 14 DAY old character or do i feel that MY MONEY should be spend on somthing else. if the setup for trial accounts is different or it effects gameplay that much maybe it's not the idea of an unrestricted trial that is the problem maybe its' the trial shouldn't be altered in the first place so that you give a truthfull representation of your software flaws and all
I mean realy, if the trial accounts are that big a deal that tey need to be restricted, why not just restrict the behavior that matters, no transferes to full account members while on trail or something like that.
If you think certain skillbooks or flying certain ships is what makes your EVE experience special, then you are quite wrong.
The trial doesn't even ask for your credit card information at all. Other game companies offer trials that you have to specifically cancel otherwise they charge you automatically. Not CCP.
I've known players who have in their first 10 hours in game had a dramatic and long lasting effect on other players. This is what makes EVE what it is, not flying some ship, but your interactions with the other players. Obviously your time in the trial did not teach you this, and I would encourage you to seek out entertainment from another company.
Maybe I missed it, but what were you limited on exactly that motivated this? Or, is it simply the concept that you are limited despite an practical ability to actually reach those limitations in the time given anyhow?
I didn't see it posted already, but CCP publishes the "limitations" at http://support.eveonline.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=444. A majority of the limitations are ships that, even if you could train all the pre-requisites for in 14 days, you would not want to fly due to having little to no support skills thus making you a big expensive bulls-eye.
I know you won't see it the same way, but all-in-all these "limitations' are good for the new players. That's just my point of view, for what it's worth, though.

thanks for the usefull information, really nothing to add, i've been moved to the fanboy forum, so it's me against ya'll and that's not the way to waste a perfectly good weekend.
maybe EvE will catch wind and make the changes this game needs to compete in the everchanging world of MMO.
but for now this household of four PC's which was looking for a 6 month or 1year sub while we W8 for GW2 will not be logging into EVE.
bummer you almost had us EvE, Sci-Fi would have been a nice change.
It only costs 15 dollars to try EVE without the restrictions that you can't seem to bear. Guess what though. There's still going to be restrictions. You won't be able to fly a Dreadnought in your first month. Can you handle that? You won't be flying a jump frieghter in your first month either. Is that too horrifying? You won't be striking out with fighter bombers from a Supercarrier either in that month. Pretty bad eh?
So how do you propose then, to experience everything EVE has to offer that the trial restricts? Your ability for advancement is limited in either case, by skillpoints.
What I'm trying to explain to you is that the real fun in EVE doesn't come from being able to send two evemails every minute, or being able to fly an assault ship. It's what you do with those, and who you interact with.
Also, from EVE's website linked earlier:
"Trial account limitations were introduced as trial accounts were not being used as intended, to try the game, but instead to launder ISK and transfer stolen items between accounts etc.
Trial account limitations are necessary to prevent misuse."
They aren't trying to limit your enjoyment. If this does limit your enjoyment, then you won't enjoy EVE in any event.

well, its a shame you see it that way. Personally, if a game constantly growing in subscribers (and features) during it's life time is not "catching wind" then I can't really think what would be. But, to each their own. Maybe Black Prohpecy or Jumpgate:Evolution would be of interest. I can't speak to features as I have only followed them loosely, but if you are specifically looking for an "internet spaceships" game, then those would be two to keep an eye on. I think BP is going to be F2P also if that is relevant at all.

Now that's the funniest thing youv'e said the whole thread. Eve is doing just fine. And it will continue to do just fine.
For all that people bitch about how there are no dedicated indie developers willing to stick to their original vision and buck the trend and not shoot for WoW-like numbers, it's surprising how idiots like the OP don't see that's exactly what CCP is. They love their game, and will protect it.

What ship is your OP talking about anyway?
Destroyer? Destroyers blow ass, they are the most worthless ship class in the entire game. I'm pretty sure you can train Cruisers on Trial, but I've never seen a Cruiser that cost 1mil.
Problem solved.
You can't train cruisers or industrials on trial accounts. You're basically limited to frigates and destroyers. If you look at the skill descriptions, a large number of those can't be trained on a trial account either.
While the OP is not appreciating the reasons for this, they are real. A throwaway character can do damage to another player that is permanent. Trial accounts must be limited for gameplay purposes.

Just for the sake of conversation, but you listed WoW as one of the games you paid for a sub to, but they appear to have limitations on their trial as well.
