Who here feels disappointed with SW:TOR?

RudyRaccoonRudyRaccoon Member UncommonPosts: 475

Hello, I've just watched the newest videos where you see group play (Smuggler and Trooper, Sith Warrior and Sith Inquiz, Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent) and I feel disappointed with this game now becauser all the main characters you play as all have British accents which is strange (I know I'm British myself but I would have thought there would be more American accents for this game) and I have to admit the character design is really bad.

You would have thought the Twi'lek Smuggler would have a different model design but instead she looks like they have just altered the female Human design and made her green with head tails. And the dialogue, it's terrible, I was really expecting better but I think I'll pass on this game.

So who else here feels disappointed with the game?

::sniffles::  I am not allowed to discuss my issues with the game because I have been labeled a hater of it.  ::sigh::  On these boards we're not allowed to voice our concerns and criticisms - unless you wish to be labeled a hater.

I am not getting my hopes up. There a re a lot of things that I am concerned about, but I am going to keep an open mind.

Oh, so your not allowed to criticise anything, well that's bad. I'll remember that next time.

I loved KOTOR 1 and 2 and I'm thrilled with everything I've seen so far in this game.   Not disappointed in the least.

:D Im still wondering why am I not being called a hater yet, tho Im criticising some of the aspects a lot ..

But whatever...well since Im very gpx oriented I was dissapointed the first time a saw a screenshot...But thats some time ago and after the last explosion of my angryness on this game I started to look at it from the bright side :)

KOTOR 3 is going to be released and thats all I care about:))

+the stories might be interesting (tho I expect it only from the main storyline - the rest will be kill ten pigs VOed most probably)

But yeah you could say Im quite dissapointed with the rest:(

But time fixes everything I gues:D

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

I personally wont know if I am disappointed until I actually get my hands on the release. However I will say that when it comes to SW:TOR I have set my expectations rather low. All I am expecting is KoTOR with grouping and chat options, when it comes to SW:TOR I am only looking at it as a continuation of KoTOR. Should they ever make a Mass Effect MMO I would most likely do the same.

There is something about BioWare and even BethSoft that causes me not to view their up coming MMO titles as being revolutionary or evolutionary but instead as a continuation of the single player titles they released before (that is assuming BethSoft is working on an Elder's Scroll title.)

So far the only MMO on my watch list that has been moved closer to the bottom has been FFXIV with GuildWars 2 moving closer to the top with each blog post they make.

So yeah I don't have high expectations for SW:TOR, I expect a title that brings the single player aspect from the KoTOR series while adding some multiplayer features.

@Teala, Who gives a damn what others think at this point in the game, just express what you think/feel. People will always find something to complain about even it's complaining about complaining. lol

@Teala, but more so in general: what I would really like to see in these threads is that people don't only look at one side of the argument, seeing only the positive or only the negative side, but that they're able to go along with and admit the sense of arguments that are not their own side.

Why is it so hard for fanbois to see and admit the bad aspects of 'their' game?

Why is it so hard for haters/trashers to see and admit the good aspects of a game?

Every game has good AND bad traits, but it seems most people don't like to admit that when posting.

And above all, why is it that people feel they can judge and predict how exactly a game will be when there isn't even a beta of it yet?

Yeah, i know that's what you see in a lot of gameforums, bias, rash judgements, fanboism, trolls, haters, etc, etc. Seems to be more than usual in these forums though.

Personally: I didn't like the graphics style of SW TOR at all, too toony. Also other game aspects make me feel kinda 'meh' about the game, especially compared to what has been released qua info about games like GW2. Plus I'm not that great a fan of the whole Star Wars franchise.

The latest interviews and information from the E3 has boosted my interest about SW ToR though and my confidence that Bioware is onto something with SW TOR. No, it will not be a 'next gen' MMO or very innovative, but what I've seen so far makes me think it will be a huge, very enormous MMO world and an entertaining gameplay experience for several different playstyles.

Before SW TOR in my list still come GW2 and TSW though (love the horror/urban fantasy/Lovecraft setting of it).

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

Well said.  I agree 100%.  I wll be buying SW:TOR, it will not be the game I had hoped but it will be great.  I look forword to more details forthcoming.  For me as a SWG vet it is hard not to compare the two and put all the bit I like from SWG into my dreams for this game (which clearly Bioware are not going to do).

No you are not. Go to another game if you do not like it! You do not have to play it! Hater!!!!!! You just hate just because you are troll that likes to hate on games for the sake of hating, because that is what trolls do, they hate and troll...and stuff!!!! Go away, this isn't a discussionboard or something...geeez.

I thought trolls were people who post negative things about "themselves" rather then criticism, since when was criticism classed as trolling?

I see nothing that enthuses me, but nothing I am willing to spill blood over in a homicidal rage, either. It looks fairly typical, though I think Bioware will work very hard to put all the polish it can before release. I am positive nothing will be half-assed, but I'm not sure the final product will be something I am interested in.

GW2 is higher on my list of expectations, but its possible I give TOR a shot down the road.

Kind of hard to be disappointed in something that isn't playable yet.

Irrespective of that, the issues you've brought up (British vs. American accents and the character model) are a bit silly and really have nothing to do with the game, but more to do with your perception of "how things should be".  That being said, you're welcome to your opinion.  I'll just wait to see if it's a good game...

Lol i really do not know actually. I just assumed ' trolls' = ' haters' Because they always say that when some1 posts a list of negative things: ' You troll!!". I really do not know the definition, I just like being sarcastic for the sake of being sarcastic, that is what I do ;).

You criticised the accent used. One of the lamest excuses to hate a game I've ever heard.

I'm reserving my judgements til I actually play the game.  Reviews and videos are all great, but you never know how a game plays unless you actually play it.  I'm actually still a bit excited about the title.

With all things, if you say something often enough, and say it repeatedly. Yes people will start to call you a hater if all you do is put out negative points with no counter points. Theres always the good and the bad. As much as you may hate a game, theres usually at least one advantage.

From my experience, the one sobbing above is just unfortunate. Some people are too afraid of what they see to say anything good.

However, something you may/may not know.

Coruscant accent is considered 'British'. Just like yours and my accents. Alot of people are from the core worlds, and many officers in the movies had british accents. (Something to do with us being the bad guys because of the revolutionary war. True story.)

Apart from that, there will likely be variation.

Why is it hard to be dissapointed if it's not playable yet? and of course people are going to judge things based on how they perceive things should be... do you judge stuff based on someone elses perception?

If Warner Brothers announces the sequel to Batman The Dark Knight and goes on to list Danny Glover as Bruce Wayne, wouldn't it be quite easy for lots of people to be dissapointed? Can you only be dissapointed only after the film has been released is there some kind of rule that forbids forecasting of any sort that i am not aware of?

It's your own prerogative if you want to reserve judgement, but that doesn't mean others can't speculate given facts.

I'm liking what I've seen so far.  I've weighed out the pros and cons for myself, the pros have it by a longshot.  The only thing I find "disappointing" is the encouraged use of companions (although all the details for use haven't been given).  Everything else looks golden to me.  That's why I'll be watching and more than likely pick up the game (collector's edition preorder, if possible).

MMO gamers tend to be very selective when it comes to likes and dislikes in a game. The problem though is that not everyone has the same tastes, and what some perceive as bad others find it great. So to not be hyped or over hyped for a particular MMO is normal. but to constantly moan and groan about it and bash a game is totally  uncalled for. The old saying still stands. If you don't like it, you're not gonna be forced to play it, so why bitch about it.

  • bobbyjrbobbyjr Member Posts: 119

For $150 million in development costs. theyd better show more than the  almost non existant stuff they have so far.

They have roughly 8-9 months to finish the game, and almost nothing has been shown about it yet

Exactly. The forecasting is probably more exciting than the gameplay anyway.

I 'd rather take the example of Danny DeVito playing the role of Bruce Wayne and then speculate how the Batman film will come along.

As an old MMo player I am entitled to have an opinion on new products coming out with very odd casting techniques.

It is QUITE different than discussing existing games btw, because there you can say: you don't play the game (anymore) so you are incapable in discussing ON topic right now.

But in games which are not even in alfa or beta: everyone stands on the same foot and everyone is entitled to speak out on announced mechanics they don't feel as good or well thought out.

People defending the not even beta games and their "promised features" are a kind of very odd kind of fans I think. There is only one attitude towards these unpublished games and that's a critical one (seen the many duds we had to endure these last few years).

Of course this game will have it ALL. What do you think the designers will say? It's a half baked voice over solo product with a subscription attached to it and a few NPC's running around your neck?

I would't say I would be motivated to look at a movie with Danny DeVito as Batman, but I would surely wanted to discuss it.

Trying to exclude beforehand such discussions is nothing short of a censorship.

It’s embarrassing when an NPC compliments you in an MMo, the only relevant, cool and epic things come from players whispering you “Grtz, mate, we did it”. copyright Pilnkplonk

Every game has good AND bad traits, but it seems most people don't like to admit that when posting.

Well, I, for one, admit it will probably be a good game given the cash they poured in, meet a decent success, and be profitable.

Still, i'm perceiving it as a static game. One that tells you it's own (amazing? probably) story and that's all. You do whatever you are supposed to do by design, and mostly that's it. You don't carve your own path into the world, you eventually get to choose one of several pre-fab routes. Not a kind of game i'd *seriously* play as a MMO...

Just trimmed it, but yes.   SWTOR has been a center of conversation ever since, a long time ago, when Bioware initially announced that they know why the majority of mmorpgs have been lack-luster of the last 5 years; story.

Since then, Bioware has continuously unimpressed the more well-grounded, objective followers (as Cryptic had done with STO).

Rather than it being the consumers/followers responsibility to 'hope', to be blindly supportive, and espouse overly matter-of-fact support on top of loosely subjective knowledge, it's Biowares responsibility to prove the target market wrong about their interpretation of Biowares communication and releases.
