Did the expansion fail? Lol, only a troll would ask that quuestion.

For those that like Age of Conan, this X-pac only improved the  game.

For those thaht still are bitter about the botched launch; It is what they claim it to be.

Age of Conan keeps beeing the rocknrolla of mmo'a.

It used to be a suck'as launch, now it's da' rolla.

I feel for the crowd that feel fookkked, and want to hav esome kind'a revenge at the big bad company going, but looking at the game itself, sorry guys, I can't help out being the 9/11 conspiracy guy you need. AoC is a good game. period.

I don't think people understand the idea behind horizontal leveling. Apparently, killing 10 mobs for a level "ding" is not grinding, doing the same thing for a reputation "ding" is...

I think you hit the nail on the head with that.   Never thought of it that way, but yeah I agree.

Plus you can run the 6 mans which each have a repeatable quest to kill the boss.  The reward is insignias you can turn in for more rep.  So, in theory, you could get to rank 4 without ever doing a single faction quest too.

No plenty of people are enjoying the expansion.  Roughly 60% voted to say the expansion didn't fail (i.e. was good) and so YOU are in the minority.

Alot of people are having a blast myself included.  Some people spend far too much time on forums moaning when hey could just find another game to play...

Maybe because being on forums is more fun than playing the expansion.

Find another (real) game to play then rather than posting the usual blah, quite frankly it's boring.

Expanding a game horizontally is indeed a wise move, and I wish MMOs in general would learn from its example.

However treadmills are acceptable only up to a point, a modest one I'm willing to endure, a long one and I want to ask the Dev "So if I hated this mechanic in another game, why would I believe it fun in yours?" and that's something the Devs of most games typically forget to ask themselves and then answer honestly.

maybe i got it wrong but how is this new AA system horizontal? What GW had was horizontal, not this.

In no way is the AA horizontal in AoC

Player 1 has no points in their AA tree is level 80 and has good gear

Player 2 has numerous points and skill from their AA tree with same gear at player 1

There result = Player 2 destroys player one, and is far superior in any PvE content.

I found the AA system better than just say adding 10 levels. However the above poster is correct. The AA's are like the Master Levels in DAoC. Those who have them will have the advantage over those who don't.  At least you can offline level them and gain experience in them from level 20 onwards. That is one part of the expansion that didn't fail for me.

The faction/gear grind is the part that turned me off. I have 4 level 80's and am simply not interested in going to Khitai with any of them. I did try for week and it made me come close to canceling and vowing never to play again. Repeatable quests are NOT FUN Funcom. Do two quests over and over, then you unlock two more and do 4 quests over and over etc. Then after all that grinding for tokens, you have to get rare trophies from dungeons run by elitist asshats. Horrible design. Simple as that.

I'd rather just do regular raids and level up an alt. The 6 man dungeons are filled with jerks who either exploited the content or have played 24/7 and are tweakers/burnouts. In either case, they are not nice people to group with and sour the experience for the casual gamer.

Once all my slots are filled with level 80's my playtime will diminish probably to the point of canceling my subscription.

No level cap raise like in other expansions, that often also caused the endgame content of the former level cap to become obsolete.

level cap raise = vertical leveling

AA system = horizontal or lateral leveling

Of course, you'll have the naysayers and anti-AoC/Funcom people saying that it isn't the case and that RotGS was anything but GW or horizontal leveling, just because they aim to put anything AoC related in an as negative light as possible.

But in a way, it's just like GW expansions: in RotGS as well as Nightfall, EotN and Factions the level cap isn't raised. What comes instead is the possibility to explore content at the current level cap, and to start hunting down additional skills. In RotGS via the AA system and in the GW expansion via questgivers and capturing skills in the field.

Then you have the fanboi's who will shine their light on a game blindly without acknowledging it's downfalls. I've already stated AoC is a decent PvE game if you have massive hours to play and work through the grind.

    Wow, you're quick to react.

I'm sorry that you're wrong again, but I'm far from a fanboi, I already pointed out in several posts the things they did wrong in my eyes with the launch, Bori and RotGS.

While I'm surfing the forums, I'm merely inclined to counter obsessive rants and persistent hatred/flaming, especially the sophisms and continuing onesided bad argumentation that goes along with it. Since that's something you encounter so abundantly here in the AoC section, you'll see me replying more here to balance it out.

But you see me doing the same on other forums like the GW2 and SW:TOR ones, even the WoW ones to a lesser degree.

Yeah slow day at work, ok, ok, I remove the fanboi tag from you :)

    Thanks!

Won't stop me from replying when I'm having a 'bored surfing' moment though, but at least I'll keep trying to refrain from tagging you a 'hater' image

i think you dont know what horizontal leveling is. In Gw (or any horizontal leveling system) you dont get skill/perk/feat in addition to your current set, you get to choose instead of. To give an example, if GW had given  9th-10th skill slots without increasing levels in expansions it would have been like AoC expansion. What i had expected from them was an another skill tree in which i can choose to spend my skill points.
