Found the website in 2005 when I started with wow. But signed up somewere in 2006, I think because I was playing wow and I was bored at the same time :-p , I liked it to scroll through the game list and read about games. And well.. I sticked around.
------------------------------------------------------------------- waiting for ... nothing..
Until SWG devs went full-on insane, I was busy playing the damn game and didn't have the need to set up an account, thus my start date, but I had been trolling for a few years prior.
God, I can't believe the NGE happened so long ago now......

Lurked around for years before I joined. Still lurk around for the most part.
Used to play MUDs and I'm not sure if the site I used to frequent around '98 was converted to this site, or this site took the domain, but somehow I started coming to this site and all the old MUD information disappeared. Looks like I joined to ask why EVE wasn't listed as an option for Best PvP Game of the Year,
joined in 03, to support the site and at the time VN boards where nothing but whinning and complaining, these where a breath of fresh air, but now its worse then about any other forums, it amazes me how bashing games seems to be the kool thing to do for alot of people and its even more amazing to see how many people can not think for themselves and just repeat the same game bashing crap as everyone else.
I checked the site for the MMO news in general, but me being Dutch my wild guess as to why I join the site must have been for one of those sweeptakes :P
Been here a while. A few so far have me beat. I know I lurked for a little while, probably 9 or 20 years (just to fit in with what someone posted above.. heheeh). Never been much of a poster and I know back then I was fairly paranoid about signing up for things so I actually did lurk for a little first, not that it matters really.
This site has come a LOOOOOOOONG way though since I first visited. Lots of nifty features now, although their forum search still chokes 90% of the time it seems.
I started coming here to get a little info on games and see what else was out there (wasn't a ton of games out back then really). I still visit to see what foolishness people post now and then.
There's still some good information and discussions here on occasion, but I have to say I stopped reading the forums as much as these forums became more about bashing and flaming. Welcome to the internet I guess!
2004 here...was playing Asheron's Call 2 at the time if I remember correctly. The game was suffering by this time and I came to mmorpg to look for an alternative with it's links to numerous free trials
I am sad to see that the site has not really moved in a positive direction. It hardly feels like it has moved at all. I wish these forums were more functional. To this day it still makes me angry how unintuitive the Copy/Paste is. Always disliked it.
As for the community i think that too has gotten worse, really. I'm beginning to think that MMORPG gamers are the most obnoxious of the styles of gamers out there. I prefered back in the day when MMO gamers were weird losers who were "stupid" for paying monthly.
It made more sense that what we have now - Virtually everyone being depressed due to the genre moving in the wrong direction, and game after game failing, as everyone becomes horrible influenced by WoW, with no publishers daring to back up a innovative project. We're stuck in a really bad time, which is weird - We all welcomed WoW, as we knew it would bring new players in to our genre and more MMOs for us to play. Little did we know, the impact it would have.
I love WoW. it's a great game despite my favoriteism towards the so called "Themepark" games as they bring forth the true spirit of MMO, while static WoW-ish games, are just glorified online RPGs, not a altering and breathing world. What I don't like are all the WoW clones.
Aoc, Conan, Aion, Matrix Online. The list of games is incredible. Game after game.
The only ones that have been success stories seems to have been DDO after it's F2P relaunch, the "Facebook" MMOs, Guild Wars, and City of Heroes.
I still root for Global Agenda and APB, but time will tell if these Action MMO hybrids, can survive.
2003 I signed up I think the only reason I signed up was to join a contest actually LOL .. Since then I have been using the site for all the resources it has.. I am a Beta testing addict so this site makes it much easier to find and sign up for testing of different games
Same here on all counts. There were plenty of other forums which talked about MMORPGS, i used them instead of this one. Still do in fact.

Oh yeah it has. I remember checking it out when it first was launched and there wasn't much here other than forums. It is funny though that they haven't changed the look of the site really. Same colors and set up since the beginning. I like it that way.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
Look to the left and you'll see my join date. I'm pretty sure I joined not long after I started hanging around this site. I probably found it before that but I don't remember for sure.
I recall that before I signed up here I posted on other sites including the pre-release forums for DAOC. They didn't have official forums so it was a thrid party site. I'm sure it wasn't here but I can't remember what site it was (damn early onset senility). But then I didn't even play DAOC because I was still feeling too burned out and disillusioned from EQ.
Anyway, when I first came to this site I still had high hopes for the future of MMORPGs. I also had some lingering psychotic rage over the way EQ turned out but, oh well, I think I've finally gotten the worst of that out of my system. I also seem to have gotten most of my hope for MMORPGs out of my system too.
So whatever, it is what it is and I'm still hanging around. I've taken some breaks from this site from time to time but so far I've always come back. I suppose I've done a little trolling in my time here. I know I've done a lot of ranting but no so much anymore. I've always tried to avoid personal attacks although God knows it's hard sometimes. I've made a fool out of myself a few times. I've had some really good arguments with some of the folks here. I've made myself feel like a weird old geezer on a few occasions when I've drifted into nostalgia about my real life younger days. I've unashamedly enjoyed watching the hater versus fanboy drama play out in it's various incarnations on these forums over the years. I've enjoyed discussing game mechanics and design with people.
All in all I've enjoyed my time here although I suspect there are few here who have any great fondness for me. But I don't think anyone really hates me either so that's ok.

I'm an old time vet.
Found it because of SWG, GW, DAOC, Planetside.

I've been here since the evequest days, check back this site atleast once a week, just lurking on the forums though, don't post much :P
January 2006
Definitely the fall of SWG and the beginning of a search that is still ongoing to find something that I really like.
Think it was Anarchy Online and SWG : )
edit: was also a lurker before I wanted to post in some hate threads
Start of 2004 but I was playing UO and EQ for a couple of years already
been around awhile i'm sure it was Eqoa swg ffxi and l2 that got me to come here
still enjoying mmorpgs
I found this site a long long time ago but have had to change my account a number of times as I got banned a lot due to insulting people who play WOW.
Still breathin (still my UO days) and waitin (for my next fix)
