Yea I know what you mean. Companies nowadays tend to spend more money on making appealing ads rather than developing the game.
By the way, I see you have "The Hat Man: Shadow Ward" game , I just got it yesterday also ^^
First, I don't know why you associate cartoons with kids, adults watch them all the time too.
Second, the aesthetics of the games is just one part of what makes them successful, you are just unable to look past that and see the game that the models are built on.
Third, games outside of the MMO world only need to look good the year they where released, they will see very little play after that in most cases. MMOs need to look good for years. Look at the old MMOs, or any games really, that went for high-fidelity aesthetics, they look terrible now and very aged. A game build on cartoon aesthetics hides its age much better.
I personally don't care too much one way or the other.
Have you ever walked into a comic book store? Average age in the comic book store at any given time is likely 35. Secondly, Asia-Pacific is a huge market and that's big over there, too. Bigger than North America. Third, it's just easier to do.
