Is WoW the best mmorpg game?

    Yes it is.

People are just tired of it because it's been the best for so long. So they either stop playing or go into some odd bit of denial.

There's other good MMOs out there thankfully. But if anyone ever asks.. "What's the best MMO?" World of Warcraft will always be the example. We're a decade away from that changing.

Why is it the best you ask?

Ask someone who sneezed if they would like a facial tissue. They'll look at you like you just said every racial slur ever created. Now ask someone who just sneezed if they'd like a Kleenex, but really hand them a Puffs facial tissue. They'll say 'oh why thank you'.

Is Kleenex the best facial tissue? Yes. Why?

If I have to explain it to you, then you need to go back to school and get an education.

    I would say it is

    the most popular

    the most played

    the most accessible

    the most talked about

    the most criticized.

However, I think Best is subjective to the people who play it.  Some will say yes and others will say no.  I personally do not think it is  the best game out there.  It does not have features and things I like in games.

Does that mean it is a bad game?  Obviously not.

So, either quantify what you mean by BEST or expect there will be a 50 / 50 split or so on the responses.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

So I guess that makes EverQuest the other best MMORPG ever, because, before WoW, that was the most mainstream MMO, despite the fact that it was only 200k subs higher than its competition.

So there's the golden answer folks, WoW is the best MMORPG because it has the biggest marketing budget. Whats sad is some posters probably believe this. Why should the marker be "if people who don't play MMORPGs know about it, then it must be good"? Shouldn't that indicate when something ISN'T good?

"People are just tired of it because it's been the best for so long. So they either stop playing or go into some odd bit of denial." Really? And what about us that didn't like it from the start? I guess we just don't exist.

Until WoW can even reach half the number of features that older games like Dark Age of Camelot had, it will not be the best MMORPG.

WoW became big becouse of its brand name and beeing released at the right time, if it was made by a smaller copany and not called Warcraft it probably wouldnt have been that big.

Also a huge promotion didnt hurt

If you look at the MMOs before and after, WoW is probably the game that has brought the least to the MMO market. Other MMOs has tried to bring something new to the genre while WoW has just taken everything from other games and also kept the names.

Its very easy to acces and get into, its easy to level up in and it has graphics that most machines can play, the PvE is very solid aswell and thats some of the factors for their big numbers.

You can also say WoW is the game that has hurt the MMO genre the most. Every new mmo tries to copy WoW and get a share of their players by doing the exact same thing, theres nothing new to the genre. And since WoW is a casual game, every developer is making casual games nowadays, which i dont like as a hardcorep player :P

As in many other MMO i think WoW players are waiting for something new to play aswell, there just isnt anything better.

As said before "best" is prespective of the player. As a PvP:er still waiting for a good PvP i say DaoC is the best MMO made, im just waiting for a good  3 REALM PvP game..but that doesnt seem to happen :/ keeping and eye on Jumpgate and GW2

     Must....not..... get..... pulled.....in....

But sorry, how exactly is this an argument? Even if all it's features have been used by older, even more simple and outdated games?

What WOW has done is combine and refine features that other games had it didn't combine anything, and refine is a polite word for gut a feature and leave the core addictiveness and little else. In older MMOs I could do a quest, walk around a town, talking to NPCs. I spoke to a town Crier who told me a scotsman in the castle had work for me. Go up to the castle, the Scotsman sends me to a forest to hunt down a wolf. I don't know where the wolf is, or what the reward is. I wander through the words, paranoid about where this wolf will be. Eventually we come into conflict, I win, return to the scotsman, and he makes me a cloak from its hide. In WoW, I run to the glowing "!" skip all the text, run to the glowing waypoint, kill the wolf and run back. I don't understand how anyone can even play that, because at least older MMOs DISGUISED the tedium of quests within immersion. WoW is just a chore.,

as well as refining their own content . WoW has never had their own original content to refine. They haven't come up with a single unique gameplay mechanic in their 5 year run. WoW is just the MMORPG version of the Borg.

They're put together the best MMO package available currently. They put together the best package for casual folks who aren't necessarily fans of MMORPGs. Just like the same way you can't say Wii Sports is the best game of all time, despite it being the best selling game of all time. Because by its nature, its less of a game, more of a casual mini game collection under the guise of a game. It's not for everyone More of, its not for people who actually enjoy virtual world MMORPGs, or new ideas,

but feature for feature there are very few that can compare, no matter compete. Feature for feature it is heavily outdated. It is so insanely simple and unoriginal compared to many MMORPGs out there, especially older games. It just baffles me how Mythic, with 30 people, in just 2 years could create something as ground breaking as Dark Age of Camelot, but WoW with all its devs can only manage to just keep pumping out small scale raid dungeons at a glacial pace. The only thing other games can't compete with is the marketing budget Blizzard has

I know I'm the second one to say this, but that was perfectly put, and 100% of that is true.

It's PvE STILL trumps WoW's PvE, and it had housing, something else WoW didn't have. And on top of that, the best consentual PvP system on the market., im just waiting for a good  3 REALM PvP game..but that doesnt seem to happen :/ keeping and eye on Jumpgate and GW2

WoW can't be the best, because you would first have to define best, and it will be different things to different people. Maybe you could say it's the best for most of the mmo players, since it has the highest sub numbers (talking about p2p ofcourse), but it can't be the best for everyone.

DAOC was just like WoW. It is the EQ1 v 2.0 because it added a faction pvp system and xp ginding via quests.

    WoW improved upon that system.

DAOC had it's time but everyone I know that tried it, myself included said the same thing. "It's okay, but EQ has more content." Which is true. EQ felt bigger. Arguably, but what isn't?

WoW became the best MMORPG without a marketting team. How many players were playing before there was a commercial on television or even a barrage of trial account ads on the internet?

WoW's the best MMORPG so far because it was the first one produced by a top notch game development company. Blizzard is the reason why millions played, friend access codes spread it, the ads came to give it further casual appeal.

Check out the re-review of DAoC to see why it isn't a triple A title. Check out it's original reviews to see why it played.. Hell number 3 to EQ and even EVE back in the day.

     /facepalm

DaoC didnt have huge marketing, EQ already had a big established playerbase, and Eve was release in 2003, 2 years after DaoC.

DaoC is not the best for everyone, but it was for me, just like WoW seems to be to you.

I don't even play WoW, but I did play it.

I can say I got bored of it, but I'm willing to admit to myself that I got bored of it. Not because the company did something bad, or that because WoW is a MMORPG that uses MMORPG mechanics like the same game I'm trying to say is better than it.

It's fucking stupid to do that.

You're a god damn retard if you can't admit that you got tired of WoW. It's okay to say so. You're looking for something different, that's great. You should.

But to take that feeling and say that something that is obviously good, isn't. It's god damn innane.

This is probably the best answer you can get.

In my opinion, WoW has the best quality of any MMO I've played (which is a good lot of them). It's not the funnest for me, but it doesn't suffer from a rushed development cycle which for me takes away imensly from my enjoyment.

It does what it does WELL.

I played WoW 2 years or something and at the beginning it was fun, but in my opinion the only answer is:

    NO!

Right... I would disagree, but then again I'm probably branded as 'just an other WoW player' by open minded folks like the two of you, if I state anything that differentiates from what you perceive as being the truth.

I'd say the argument thrown out there by the 'common WoW player' is that WoW is not a shining jewel of the MMO world, but it just does everything with such a degree of polish and professionalism and has such an extensive endgame PvE lineup, that there simply aren't titles out there that you can compare the game to.

As an example, LotRO has great PvE, although the quantity isn't there when compared to WoW, but it really has nothing that can rival WoW on the PvP front. Aion is more geared towards endgame faction based PvP, it is arguable whether it succeeds here, but the PvE content is stale and repetitve.

At the moment I'd rate WoW as being the best overall MMO out there purely based on the quantity and versatility of different content that is available, and the polish and userfriendliness of both the game client and the servers.

Nice, namecalling really proves your point. If your old enough to have played EQ, you should be able to make a bit better posts.

I said WoW didnt bring anything new to the genre and is the game that has copied the most, not that its bad.

To me though, theres better games.

What in the world could housing possibly benefit WoW? I cannot think of one good benefit that housing would benefit WoW.

Quests are so much better in WoTLK then it was in vanilla and TBC. It has different mechanics and is filled with so much storyline.

There are better games out there, the thing about wow is that it has a very large group of people who enjoy it. The other games are more niche and have a target audience.

VG is a better game just poorly launched then reputation damaged that game to where it is just waiting to die.

WoW doesnt have good PvP... but anyways

WoW has gotten there over time, it wasent that great from the start, with the budget and playerbase wow has any game could have had the content wow has

Contentwise i can agree, wow is probably the best game, but is it all really that fun? 80% of quest beeing KTR quest and theres not really meaning to end game.

problem with PvE games is that the game ends at max lvl, while PvP games like DaoC starts at max lvl.

WoW brought plenty new to the genre. So much so it couldn't be cloned if it wasn't true. Even Guild Wars 2 is going to copy the pet mechanic from the hunters.

The fact of the matter is, WoW bashing and WoW praising doesn't change the fact that WoW is the biggest MMO to ever come. It sucks admitting something is the best on ANY weird criteria we can come up with. But when you lead the genre and you define the genre, and you pretty much are the guy to beat in the genre. You are the technically the best.

There's games you like better. There's game I like better. Honestly my favorite MMOs are Shadowbane and City of Heroes/Villains because each offered (in quite different ways) a bit more freedom than you get from traditional MMOs.

I'm not going to pretend WoW wasn't a well crafted game that did bring a lot of new things to the genre, and it'll continue to influence the design and creation of all sorts of games for generations to come. There's nothing wrong with it, and taking a stance like 'wow sux cuz i didn't like it' is.. I can't even think of the proper word to use to establish how little intelligence it takes to do such a thing.

WoW is the best MMORPG on the market now. It's been the best for 5+ years now. For a lot of reasons. We can all pick features we don't like. Or ones we'd like to see added. That doesn't detract from the game what success it built up and what innovation it brought.

It may not be everybody's favorite MMORPG, but it is still undeniably the most popular.
