WHO CARES! BUY IT IF YOU WANT TO PLAY IT. DONT BUY IT IF YOU DONT WANT TO PLAY IT.
No need for caps, most here who whine about sc2 still buy it there all brainwashed by blizzard and buy there games even when its crap hehe.
What games have Blizzard released that are crap? I personally can't stand WoW and haven't played it since the beginning of 05'(well did do a 1 month stinit in July of 05' as well) Either way, over 5 years since I've played it. Now its been less than 2 months since I played DiabloII though.
From my less than 10 matches, it does not even feel like the same game. Mind you I'm a casual RTS fan, I own only a few in the genre, star/wacraft, supreme commander, and DoW series. This game feels a lot faster paced. I used to have 2hour matches all the time in SC1, and from the couple I've played majority are done in under 15minutes.
Now this will surely change once more custom maps become available, but using their fast matching making service and playing with a buddy our longest game was 27minutes. Very low indeed.
Everyone already knew this..... an it IS EXACTLY why they bought it.
Actually, I did know... but this is why I stayed away lol. Graphics are nice, but if thats the only significant difference then I'd have to pass which I did lol.
Yes there are some who did, but the 800k preorders and the millions of sales they'll have before next week even starts shows that people like having the really old game repackaged to be nice looking.
And this means what? That there are at least 800k people that could be suckered into buying something they already own just because this new version looks better? I already knew the world was full of people that are easily suckered by pretty pictures lol.
Look at how they have sold cars and beer for decades lol, get a chick in a bikini to sit on the car or hold the beer and count the money that rolls in lol.
Yep and you're easily suckered into the blizzard hate train... if you were decently intelligent you'd simple say "well if they enjoy it more power to them."
Nah, I'm actually a Blizzard Fanboy especially since I'm a long time MTG player :P. I really liked WarCraft and SC. Never got into WoW it wasn't my thing.
Thing is, I'm a fan of the things that they do well lol, this for me wasn't one of those things that they did well.
In any case if you trully enjoyed the product you'd simply move on and ignore me because what I say shouldn't matter. If you purchased it for other reasons though I could see why my post riled you up, it's what many do when they are trying to defend their purchases when the purchase something just because it's "trendy" lol.

What games have Blizzard released that are crap?
They haven't. People just hate on WoW because it's the big boy in town. I mean I got tired of it, and there's some things I don't like. But blaming the game is a sign of ignorance. Blizzard puts a lot of quality work into all of their products and if it's not obvious then people are hating to seem cool?
Really people need a better hobby than looking like ignorant cunts adding a bit of hyberbole to their distain.
I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.
Anyone that's scoped out news about Starcraft 2 should already know what's changed and what's not. I've long since known SC2 is merely a graphics patch but they want $60 for it
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. You already own this game. It's called starcraft 1.
"Starcraft 1" sold more than 11 million copies worldwide as of February 2009, it is one of the best-selling games for the personal computer in gaming history.
Sooo... sounds good so far! Continue please.

Which means.. people who liked it then will probably like it now. That means, if only HALF like it, that's around 6 million box sales. Are you trying to tell 6 million people this is no good?

As opposed to every other game that's made by a studio that will donate all it's proceeds to charity. Or studios that make games simply for "artistic purposes" not trying to make any profit. They all are 'money grabbers'.

Not sure why you feel it necessary to take shots at people who are fans of a company, but whatever floats your boat I guess. But just between you/me; this is where your credibility as a "reviewer" falls totally and completely apart.

As for me, after the adoption of the policy of "it's ok to release bad games" that companies have had, I refuse to buy games that are not up to standard. Make it right, or don't get my money.
Wait, you said it was "Starcraft 1"? Starcraft 1 wasn't a bad game as we all know AND you said they added JUMPING units and 3-d! Woot! So they improved on the original, however so slightly?. So .. hmm.. err... does not compute.

After reading this far into your post, I think everyone who read this far is SHOCKED that your're not going to buy it. I mean.. shocked.

Okay, this last bit was just too much over the top for anyone who is representing themself as a "beta" tester and painting a picture they know about games. This statement cannot be taken seriously by anyone (esp with Cataclysm coming out as well) playing these games.
What did they do.. kick you out of beta for making crazy suggestions or something?
Moronic frothing blizzard haters are hilarious....
I just got done playing it for a few hours... its a great game.
Your loss guys... but don't try to kid yourself that it's a crappy game.
Same here.
Having a really good time playing the campaign and looking forward to multiplayer. According to the OP and some others there must be some thing terribly wrong with me for having so much fun with StarCraft II. lol Welcome to the Internet.

Blizzard is owned and operated by Vivendi Games. I don't care much about Starcraft II for the same reason. It is really an updated Starcraft 1. The very same thing occured when Quake 4 was released by ID Software. People told me "They want Quake 3 Arena updated" but when the game was released it was extremely boring to the majority and the only comments that were decent were on the singleplayer.
My personal favorite is when the Final Fantasy I and II clone-like games were released and people thought they were going to be big because its graphics were just like those from the 90s. They thought older gamers would appreciate them, but they bombed and made nearly no sales.
I've updated entire games before to make them look more appealing by doing graphics and programming adjustments before. You don't need a completely new game for this, but in Defense of Blizzard, they probably will be the only ones who will profit from a Clone of the same game. Everyone else that has tried before for the first 6 months gets something nice and then its forgotten.
Why buy the same game if you already own it? Isn't that like...a waste of money?
Get serious here and face the facts, it is not the same game. You are not tied down to low res pixelated gaming, the single-player campaign is awesome and the multiplayer is balance perfection with an excellent matchmaking and friendlist system.
they havent done anything new since warcraft 1 and diablo 1
It's a shame too. I'm interested to see what their new MMO is gonna be. I'd be inclined to believe it would be a very bold move on their part to make their next new game franchise to be an MMO considering how rough the genre is. Blizz and their reputation would be alot safer doing somethign else...like say...a hit FPS.

Now, I have no interest in playing any Starcraft, but even if it was the same game with minor improvements and a reskin job, why should people not buy it?
After all, a smart reskin can overcome that visually "dated" feel, while giving you more of the gameplay you've loved all along, with some improvements to boot.
The original two Monkey Island games got their graphics redone and you know what, it was a blast playing through them again. What's really interesting is that they felt the same as before, visually. I almost remember them looking like they do now in these reskins; but when you boot up the original graphics, goodness, they are nowhere alike! The old games had wildly pixellated visuals, but because they were good for their time, I find the impression they have left on me is not of "pixellated EGA stuff" but cartoonishly stylized yet beautiful pictures. The new visuals leave the same impression - and that's what matters: I still have the same fun game, without the disappointment of having to take the nostalgia trip through what's now sadly dated visuals. So, yes, I think there's a point in even outright reskins.
Ultimately it's all about how bored people were with the mechanics in the original Starcraft. If they were really really bored with the gameplay itself, this sequel's reign will run short. If not, well... we may see even more years of hectic starcrafting going on.

Exactly, my main gripe with the OP's post that was he was suggesting that SC2 brings no added value when compared to the original game, which looks and plays like the 11-year-old game it is, which is by today's standards, horrible.
I can say I cannot ever remember been blown away like I am with SC2 campaign mode. I easily see why they have to have a seperate one per race. That alone I think is reasoin to buy it, if you want a cool story and cool way to progress through it you cant go wrong with that alone.
THe gameplay mechanics are perfect, there simple, fast and clean and cool as graphics, the Zerg look like the menance there supposed to be now.
I cant recomend this game enough.
And to the OP you obviously never played the original or you would notice all the new stuff.
Or by new do you mean instead of resource gather gold, or gas, you resoirce gather strategic point and energy(dow, coh)
And dont mention DOW 2 thats simply ground control 3, but its a great game but I dont think I would put it in RTS really, its almost rts but should turnbased strategy.

what you think could have been done differently to improve the game?
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
that is what the SC2 fans wanted
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
And OP you will win this HATERZ will come in wild packs to forum how bad game is and talk crap on blizzard if its there own kid hehe.

"TO MICHAEL!"
Yes it is. I'll pass. I already played SC and a new polish on the same game, which this is, doesn't warrent $50+ bucks.
Blizzard could crap in a box and still sell out.
I played the beta, it's nothing compared to the original. It stunk too much of warcraft 3, small scale combat.
Gonna skip this one.

Two reasons why I won't be getting the game anytime soon
1: you can't zoom out, I'll go back to supreme commander for a real RTS
2: three different games sold seperately is an obvious attempt to milk the franchise for dollars. Not into getting ripped off
It's a shame too. I'm interested to see what their new MMO is gonna be. I don't play WoW, I am not sure I will try this game. But people need to decide for themselves.
To me it sounds like OP is a beta tester that either got kicked out or they would not listen to what he thought was brillant ideas by him.
Fine we get it the OP doesn't like it. But there might be ones that would but OP might drive away. You never know until you try it..
If you don't like a game fine, say, this game is really not what I want to play.
I wish the game success.

^ this.
so please, move along.
There is no knowledge that is no power.
I am 7 hours into the single player and on misson 8 (playing on hard) and so far I have found the following new/differences from SC1.
Protoss warpin mechanic
Zerg creep mechanic
Terrain Command center upgrades and supply depots mechanics
Queen larva/heal, cromo boost & mules/scans
Different high ground mechanic
Watch towers
High yeld minerals
Destructable rocks
Units that can go up and down cliffs
Atleast 5 new units per race
In game cinematics between each of the 29 single player missions with some pre-rendered scenes
Story mode space to explore between each missions
Some A or B mission decisions
Research and tech tree's to unlock upgrades
Mercenary to hire elite units
Leagueladder based multiplayer and the new Bnet 2.0
New map eitor that thats far far more powerful than the original
Continuation of the starcraft 2 story
All new 3D engine that looks bang upto date when played on Ultra.
OP, please play the game and then comment. Your hate for blizzard obvious.
I really don't understand that they were expecting SC2 to be? It's in the same series of course its gonna look and feel like sc1.....
Those saying there are no new mechanics haven't played (or were just dumb)...
I can say I cannot ever remember been blown away like I am with SC2 campaign mode. I easily see why they have to have a seperate one per race. That alone I think is reasoin to buy it, if you want a cool story and cool way to progress through it you cant go wrong with that alone.
