I bought and i'm enjoying SC2.  Everyone who was keeping track with its creation knew he was not going to see groundbraking RTS mechanics but a perfectly polished, flawless executed game with an epic story and a kick ass multiplayer. A game with ultra high production standards something Blizzards excells in. And i'm perfectly ok with this approach. Besides, in my humble opinion the only "real" RTS genre over the last 5 or 6 years is the Total War series. Awesome games but very hard to master (on the higher difficulty settings) and without Blizzards *again* kick ass multiplayer.

However, the OP has a point there. With all these years and all these funds at their disposal Blizz should have dared to bring in one or two new things to the genre. It's not like people would not buy the game.

OP, please play the game and then comment.  Your hate for blizzard obvious.

That one feature is just priceless

    Not quite.

After you sign into battlenet once you can play offline as a guest as much as you want.

You don't get the achievements nor can you play any multiplayer games (no lan remember), but everything else is there for you.

Didn't really care for the first starcraft very much. Neat storyline but the gameplay itself was just...meh. Plenty disagree with me im aware, but i figured if I didn't like the first I probably wouldn't like the second. :P

Didn't really get into rts's all that much until the homeworld series now that I think on it

I've only just started the single player campaign and let me tell you its leaps and bounds ahead of SC1 single player.

From hiring merchs to upgrading units to the way mission selection works, achievements, character interaction and the variety in missions.

The single player alone with all the difficulty levels, and replay value with challenge maps and AI skirmish is worth the 60 bones I paid.

I havent even touched on the multiplayer or co-op, unlockable goodies, map editor or the cool plans the mod community has for this game.

I'll be playing SC2 for the next couple years and once I get a tad bored the Zerg edition will be released and it will start all over again and again with the protoss campaign.

Now excuse me while i get back to this amazing campaign.

You should actually try the game.

I thought SC2 would be nothing but a reskinned 12 year old rts also.

    Man... was I wrong.

This is coming from a dude that probably hates Blizzard more than anyone else on this forum.

People dont understand that no matter what you do... MMo's will allways be MMO's and RTS even more will allways be RTS...

And people love to play them...

Blizzard will sell like 20M copies of this game worldwide, if not more. And that on PC alone... and they'll make a fracking load of money, and most people will enjoy the game...

    ANother succes for the blizzies

It's 2am and I'm far too tired to get into any amount of detail....

For all of you saying it's the same game and plays the same.... it doesn't, Unit control and micro is far more important in SC2 over SC1, units have new abilities you need to master and there are new units all together.

The game is similar to SC1, why? Because SC1 is regarded as the best RTS of all time.  Of course they will stick to the basic forumla, however SC2 varies enough that while on the surface it may appear the same, it's not.

Im not much of an rts fan but I love a good sci-fi story, and just the Campaign was worth the cost of this game. Cool characters, great voiceacting and awesome cutscenes.

  • lortegedlorteged Member Posts: 143

Well, SC2 is everything i hoped for, and i se it as a good thing, that thay diddent change to much, and the posibilitys Map Editor gives the creators is just amazing.

  • ShinamiShinami Member UncommonPosts: 825

I actually like Command and Conquer as a series better. I grew up with all the funny things between NOD and GDI and the Red Alert universe was amazing too. Starcraft is ok in my eyes, but since I am also a musician and I like Comedy, I enjoyed "Hell March" as well as the character "Kane." ^_^ I am hoping it goes well for Blizzard, nothing sucks more than spending years to make a game....and have it flop.

Ask the same thing about Madden,MLB the Show,Tiger Woods PGA Tour or any other game that releases a new version every year.Aside from updated rosters and a few game play/controls changes essentially they are releasing the same exact game every year but it doesn't stop people from buying it.

Smackdown vs Raw is another title.Every year they change the controls slightly or add a new feature to story mode and when you get the game it looks the exact same and plays the exact same aside from the minor changes. It will never change either as long as people are willing to shell out 60 bucks each year for the exact same game with minor changes.

Im not sure why people pay for the same product year after year but until they stop gaming companies will continue to release "new games" with the same mechanics and game play previous versions had just with better graphics and tell us its a whole new experience.

How is the music in Starcraft II?

To me as far as RTS games go, nothing beats the music to Command and Conquer: Red Alert II along with that Allied Opening Scene of Russia Invading the US ^_^ Like I said before, I like Hell March, but my favorite music playing a map was this one :)

This was also in the title screen too ^_^

Is the music any good in SCII? I like buying game soundtracks and making TABS out of them.

Obviously Starcraft 2 being Starcraft 1 isn't a big issue. People wanted a facelift for a still-competitive RTS. Don't tell me that it's not possible. I cannot tell you how many people would fap so hard if Square decided to facelift FF7, which they released a demo introduction version. Facelifting games and rereleasing them is becoming popular in the FF series as they bring them to new platforms, as I believe it enhances immersion for some of the best RPG's ever (before they got stupid 10+). This is true for other games too. What if they rereleased Warcraft 1 & 2 with new graphics, a game overlooked by many that did not own/know about computers in the 90's. I know I'd chafe myself over that.

The single player storyline is awesome. Any Starcraft fan will love the single player story.  I have 10 more missions to go and and can't wait to see the ending. The collectors edition is totally worth it if you are a fan.  There is also a ton of replayability in the single player campaign. A must buy and an epic story to boot!

This honestly should have been SC 1.5 patch....The ONLY mechanic that was added was jumping units....I mean really....12 years of RTS advancement (looking at CoH here) and this is what you give us.  These mechanics were good when SC original released a decade ago, but now....come on people.

This game is nothing more than a money grabber.  The fact that 3 episodes will be released and sold is further proof.  So keep paying out your wallets SC/Blizz fanboys cause that's all activision wants from you, and they will get it.

As for me, after the adoption of the policy of "it's ok to release bad games" that companies have had, I refuse to buy games that are not up to standard.  Make it right, or don't get my money.  I will not be buying SC2 (I beta'd), I say uncounted times that SC needed more mechanic upgrades to be a legitimate sale/upgrade to no avail.

Starcraft 2 does not innovate because IT DOES NOT HAVE TO. Starcraft 2 has to keep the feel of Starcraft 1 because if you try to introduce new gameplay types, a lot of people will complain that it will play way too differently from the original game and will not play like an RTS from the Starcraft franchise. In short, innovation is not always good.

While the multiplayer may not innovate much, the campaign and map editor innovates a lot. The campaign allows you to choose missions and upgrades rather than have you follow a linear path and allows you to interact with the characters that creates a deep and epic storyline. 30 missions for each races also helps to create a much deeper story than if each race only had 10 missions. The map editor is very powerful and allows gamers to create games of entirely different genres.

Hell, even without multiplayer, the campaign and editor alone is worth $60.

What a shame that you are too blinded and ignorant to not buy this great RTS. Do us all a favor and GTFO of this forum.

    LOL at the OP.

Yes I agree. Do not buy this game if you once again want to play the same old thing.

And by same old thing, I mean greatest RTS in history on steroids with an awesome campaign and 3 distinct factions that are generally as close to perfectly balances as can be. I mean, if you are thinking that this game will be different by not being any fun, then do not buy. You will be stuck having the same ol fun, and perhaps more.

And when Diablo 3 comes out, dont get it, cuz its gonna be Diablo 2 just better..

Reasons why I do not own SC2:

    Playing WoW with friends.
    Lack of time.
Budget is a bit tight at the moment.

Reasons why I do want to buy SC2:

    Because its starcraft.
Because the map editor looks awesome.
Because the new game mechanics are awesome (rising lava, etc.)

Hey guys, I heard that you shouldn't buy new books or sequels to movies because they don't change anything! They're the exact same thing as the first! They don't even change how things work! That's insane! How can they do something like that and expect people to buy them?!

The primary strength for Blizzard is there ability to tell a wonderful story in their video game. The continuation of that alone is a reason to purchase this game, or are you going to tell me that you didn't buy the expansion to SC because they didn't do anything 'special' with that either.

Anyways, 3/10 troll. I'm quite disappointed in this one.

It's the perfect Multiplayer RTS. That's why you should buy it. Learning the basics is easy because you already know them, but becomming a master is incredibly difficult because of the insane depth this game have.

So far it's one of the best single player campaigns in any RTS.The controls are sublime, the missions get  mixed up nicely, the production values on everything from the cutscenes to level design are top notch.Tthe game is worth getting for the single player campaign.

Multiplayer though the OP has a point. If you had your fill of it in the first Starcraft or are still playing thefirst Starcraft  for multiplayer and don't care about the single player component then you cna probably skip Starcraft 2.It's mor eof the same with 3d graphics minus LAN play.
