Looks like a good time for new players to jump in. I heard there is even some legitimate PvP action?

I may check it out, but I can't say I see how they thought that some of thoes prices were reasionable. The one that suprised me the most was the 200 for a year, the rest are not so bad.

Believe it or not I've never tried out Everquest 2 before, so since it's going to have a F2P option it will give me the opportunity to check it out.  I guess I could of always tried the 2 week trial, but for some reason I don't like trials if I'm not seriously planning on purchasing the game.

Nope. Tried it off and on over the years and it always makes me miss the original EQ and the first couple of expansions rather than making me want to continue playing...free or not.

  • PhilbyPhilby Member Posts: 849

Nope. Will not and will not renew my sub to EQ2 either. It goes on the scrap heap along with LOTRO.

WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

RMT does not fit within my preferences in what makes up an enjoyable MMO, so I would have to say no. RMT is also the unfortunate reason why I will not go back to the standard EQ2, which I would otherwise do if there was no station cash involved in the standard game.

    200 bucks a year = 16.6 dollars a month

You get the fullest version of extended plus 500 station cash each month.  Remove the cost of the SC from the cost you pay to play and you are paying 11.6 dollars per month for Platinum.

Platinum price is the best bargain if you plan on playing the Extended game.

You are losing the additional races from the regular game.  If you purchase those races with the SC, the Platinum version of EQ2 extended will be a better deal than the regular subscription game, once all races have been purchased.

I assume this will be possible by simply using the 500 per month you'll get from having Platinum.

SO basically, you get a new server with a fresh start and the chance to try out EQ2, a really great game, for 11.6 dollars a month if you go platinum.  This will give you 6000 station cash to burn on new races which you can gather over your 1 year subscription.  You will pay less than regular subscribers once you have all the classes and continue to get your 500 SC per month.

Platinum is the best deal, in the long run, of all the payment methods offered.  You can't argue with math.

SOE has but one thing in mind with EQ2 extended... making more money/paying customer

EQ2 is actually quite a fun game,  but with this version it will cost me more moneymonth then with the current subscriptions..

Worst thing is, it will be crawling with high levels before you know it happened copied from the normal market and roaming the gold delving..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

To be fair, you can't exactly 'discount' the cost of fictional, non-transferable "station cash" from the cost of the platinum subscription. You're still technically paying them the money, so it's still costing you $16.6.

If you were to expecting to play for a full year, and would otherwise pay to have everything unlocked and would otherwise purchase/use ~6000 station cash a month, then this option is a good package deal. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Sticking with regular P2P EQ2. I don't mind $15 a month. :P

  • GreenWidowGreenWidow Member Posts: 157

The 200 a year is what is offputting to a lot of people.  You are correct in that it is still 16.6 a month.

The 1.6 increase per month is not much for a lot of return was my point.

They found a sneaky way of charging 16.60 a month and making it look good.

You guys need to learn reading comprehension.

    $200 a month includes:

    12 year subscription = $180 dollar value
AND the current expansion (in this case its Sentinal's fate) = $40 dollar value

So you are paying an extra $200 a year to keep current with whatever the latest expansion is and basically getting a $220 value. Given EQ2 releases an expansion every year, thats a bargain.

In addition you get those bonus station cash points to buy out your races/classes/housing items/whatever you want.

Anyone who thinks the pricing is bad on this is a complete idiot, or completely fails to see that this is *separate* from the existing eq2 servers where you will pay your 15 a month + expansions as usual. Also, for many the extra 3 character slots are woth the 1.60 a month even without the expansion.

Additionally, it's a way to convince consumers into 'locking in' to an extended period of gameplay that they might not otherwise do. Many players subscribe monthly, or in three month blocks, because they don't know whether or not they'll tire of the game in a few months or not, which would inturn waste more money than they "save" from the discount that's typically applied to longer subscription periods.

I don't think anyone in particualr is saying it's bad, simply that it's selectively good.

If you know for certain you're going to play for a year straight, up to level 90, roll several alts, and spend station cash. Sure, it's a good package deal. But if you decide to take a break for a month or two, have many alts, not level to 90 and see all of the expansions and their content, etc, then the value starts to become questionable.

It really does depend on the intent of the player.

Bottom line: Its a better deal then what people are getting on the live servers. They pay $220 for less than what the platinum membership gets for $200. Granted it does hurt those that dont play a year straight. Its meant to give extra value for those that commit. the other option is always available on the lvie servers (pay the 40 for expansiona nd sub as you want to sub)

    A definite yes here.

EQ2 is certainly NOT a game i would sub. But playing a bit for free? Count me in.

  • furidiamfuridiam Member UncommonPosts: 137

i canceled my sub when they ninja added RMT to the reg game. I wont be going the FTP route.

What people dont realize is that this will take away the new development for the original game due to them coming up with items for the cash shop.

  • twstdstrangetwstdstrange Member Posts: 474

    Hmm, doubtful.

Everquest was one of the games I downloaded, installed, played for two minutes, them promptly destroyed from my hard drive... Like Champions, Warhammer, and City of Heroes, etc.

Terrible controls, terrible UI, lackluster movement animations, dull setting, blah blah blah.

Nothing really to set it apart from a F2P from what I could tell.

Regardless, it just wasn't my bottle of rum.

Hell ya.  I want all the subscriber folks to continue to subsidize my entertainment.  Thanks for sticking it out the last couple years, subscribers.
