I'm confused as to why anyone would want to pay 15 dollars a month for the EQ2 extended gold package when you get more out of the original subscription.

indeed if you d find yourself liking the game, but only pay the 15$ the current servers is better - the only good deal is the yearly sub, which you as a new person would have to be very certain you d want to spend a good chunk of time in it to get....they really need to make the 15$ option completely the same as on current servers.
on topic, nope wont be there....but then its someone who is burned out on EQ2, and well got a great guild already :P.
Everyone will be playing EQ2X eventually the way they are implementing it. The system assures 'regular' servers see almost zero to negative population growth.
-Can only copy (not transfer) characters to EQ2X servers ($35). Can't go from EQ2X to regular in any form with any EQ2X created characters
-All trial players will be on EQ2X servers. So if they decide to go 'all in' if they want to keep their characters they have to stay on EQ2X
So with all new blood going to EQ2X, regular servers will either merge repeatedly until there is nothing left, or players will ASK to made F2P servers so their server communities will remain intact. All this after current players were extremely adamant about cash shops NOT gaining more ground. So they got us on a technicality by basically releasing a competing product, that has ALL the tools to bring in new players, with none for regular servers.

Yes, knowing that players do not want a game breaking cash shop they have essentially shut them off to growth and will let them die leaving those that do remain no option but accepting what SOE wanted in the first place.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
There's a chance I'll try it just to see how the game is now. But the fact that I'm thinking about trying this is why current EQ2 subscribers should be angry about it. I'll be going in as a new player, on this new f2p server, not one of the old paid subscription servers. This would only mean more people would start out on the f2p server, thus leaving the subscription servers to bleed a slow death.
You'd be surprised how many players are more pissed about new players not being able to overtly choose the regular servers than the cash shop stuff. I'm sure that is part of their plan. Players didn't want these huge cash shops and soon enough anyone left on the regular servers will be begging for them so new players can go to their servers as well.
No I will not be trying it. I left the day they introduced Station Cash and said that they were crazy by trying to introduce 'Box+Sub+Expansion+Item store' into a game, I guess that must have been right if the game has bottomed out to the point where they are prepared to isolate their existing subscribers and sink to the depths of going F2P via a new service.
I just wonder how long they will wait before merging and closing off the legacy servers? I expect the population exodus to other game will be quite large, it will be sad to see legacy EQ2 put on life support.
NO! I honostly hate the direction there taking this game. First the cash shop, and now a f2p version? At this point im probly going to leave the game at this point. I can't stand it anymore. Can SoE not realize that the population of almost every server was steadily improving? What is the actual point of making a f2p version? Are the not pulling in enough players? At this point im done with Eq2. No not eq2, Im done with Sony... [ Mistake one Eq] [Mistake two Vangaurd] [ Mistake three Eq2]
It highly depends on how they implement the cash shop for it. I attempted to dig around with google and around their station cash site, but came up with nothing at the current moment. Know there is going to be stat gear for sale from the sounds of their FAQ on EQ 2 X but like to know the extent of it.
I trialed it before and didnt like it too much, but I didnt give it a fair shake so will try it again come mid august.
Looks like a good time for new players to jump in. I heard there is even some legitimate PvP action?
It's a good idea, but after looking through that FAQ and checking their "matrix" JPG image I see that the restrictions on "Extended" are far too heavy, and at least one teir seems to be mostly pointless. They seem to not quite understand the F2P approach and they will need to add better balance and / or value to each teir beyond the basic free membership.
As it is it is too restrictive to encourage use of SOE's "Extended" service. Just to clarify, I play Runes of Magic and I do buy from their item mall so my response shouldn't be mistaken as having an issue with F2P itself.
Haters gonna hate: I expect the F2P haters to respond in their usual way to posts like this so I won't be back to this thread. Good day all.
I sure will. I have a box, but never played past the free time that was included. I was thinking about giving the game another try and what better time than now. I hope this works well enough to get Vanguard on a similar plan. I will be playing EQ2 and LOTRO for awhile until the next batch of mmo's come out. I am done with WoW and as much as I enjoy DDO, the heavy instancing wasn't my style. As far as SoE trying to squeeze as much money as possible from the existing player base, you have to think about how many people will come over from other standard F2P games. If 5-10% of the RoM, Allods, Aika, Requim etc population come over to and stay with the newly made F2P titles, there will be a nice cash flow infusion.
It seems the new dynamic shift in MMO's will not come in some groundbreaking gameplay change, but rather in the way in which we pay for them. I for one, am excited.
You can buy a wand with a 5 minute recast that instantly kills a targetted solo mob. Wont work on a heroic(group) or epic(raid) mob though. Can also buy all standard and rare harvested resources for crafting. Several mounts obviously, already have that on regular servers. Give bonuses to casting and melee skills. A potion that increases dropped coin by 25%. Thats jsut off the top of my head dont have access to the PC with EQ2X installed on it.
I'll definitely create a character on EQ2X just to play when I feel like taking a break from the $15/month, but I'll still play my regular characters when I am paying for it. Since entitlements, expansions, and all related content carries over between games (it says exactly that at the bottom of the matrix for people that want to disagree), I'll get a lot for free on EQ2X servers and it'll be nice when I want to save a little extra money. I still want to be able to acquire everything and access updates via the live service though.

I think you're probably misinterpreting what you're reading. Think about this logically.....why would SoE want to allow you to....for lack of a better way to put it...."have your cake and eat it too?" Myself....I'm not convinced that it's going to work the way you think it is, allowing players to jump back and forth between paying and not paying monthly fees, and not requiring re-rolls to the EQ2X servers, but allowing transfers of all of your fabled gear, all of your rare housing items, etc....some of which cannot be acquired on the EQ2X server, and then allowing you to just jump back and forth with said characters at will escaping paying a monthly fee whenever you decide you'd like to skip one......
To me....that doesn't sound logical or practical. If they're going to allow what you THINK they are....I'm willing to bet that every time you jump over to that EQ2X server....it's going to cost you real world MONEY to do it. We're both speculating here, but I've been a subscriber since early 2005, and I rather doubt SoE is going to make it as easy for you to "jump ship" (back and forth and back and forth, no less) as you seem to think.
Only if SOE sells it to another MMO publisher/Developer.
I enjoyed EQ2, love it (Vanguard as well) but I made a decision about a year ago to never again support SOE as a MMO publisher/Developer for many reasons. I will never again purchase, subscribe to, and/or play any Online Game/MMO that SOE offers.

No. I tried the free trial about a month ago and just do not like the game mechanics, the graphics, or most of the classes.

I'll give it a go.
I don't think being free will help my issues with EQ2 in the long run tho'.
The cost wasn't ever the issue, but some of the quest gring levels just got way too boring to get in to and the dungeon crawling was a joke.
I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.
i've never played it so i'll probably give it a try.

I definitely won't be playing extended since I already have high level characters and am a regular subscriber.
