Yes, Im gonna play EQ2E. I hope no trolls from p2p come to new version.

I dont think you have to worry about P2P folks destroying your wonderful F2P community.

WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

I just wonder how long they will wait before merging and closing off the legacy servers? I expect the population exodus to other game will be quite large, it will be sad to see legacy EQ2 put on life support.

You left because they let people buy furniture? really? Oh and the game has bottomed out?

I really hope to see some boo'ing at fanfaire. Most tickets were sold before this was announced.

And no you won't be able to play your fabled out character without paying a sub on the EQ2X servers, it doesn't grandfather in that kind of access. Says once the paid live subscription is closed you be downgraded to a bronze membership or silve if you pay the one time $10. Both are legendary and fabled restricted. Read the bottom of the membership matrix if you don't believe me.

And FYI I am in the 12th most successful raid guild in the game (a lot of top guilds closely tied) and I only raid 12 hours a WEEK, not a day. Not like EQ1 days, if you can't get decent loot even with casual play you suck at MMO's. Their not hard.

Anything available for cash on the regular servers was fine. The stats some items offered were piss poor. Weapon and casting skill bonuses of like 7? Might as well be nothing when at 90 you naturally have 450 and would want something like 700 to get past all kinds of defense checks on PvE mobs.

The problem isn't what you can do with casual playtimes at max level in EQ2.

The problem is that this game is boring as hell. That's the crux of the issue. I've tried it twice, got to level 50 or so.

The game is boring. The quests are 70% pedestrian and I seem to have spent half my time in game running form one spot to another.

All teh quests seem like it's the same thing. There's no variety. It feels like a grind, but if I'm going to grind I rather grind at a MOB camp than run around doing qeusts all day long. There was hardly anything fun about it.

The group gameplay (with guildies of similar level in dungeons) didn't impress me, either.

I've yet to see any other MMO that's strikingly more impressive in those areas though. Just as an example WoW seemed quite barren leveling up unless you used their auto-PUG system of Dungeon Finder. Something people just love to drop in and out of since theirs no consequences really, can just wait for the queue to pick someone else for the piss poor long easy dungeon.

Same with LOTRO even post F2P. Get and find hardly anyone around in general, and definitely no one willing to do any kind of grouping leveling up.

AoC knows this all too well and just give people a free level every 4 days for staying subbed to further help fast track people to the actual game, that being the high end.

The days of taking your time leveling and meeting people on the way on just about any year old or more MMO are pretty much done. Couple months after official release of an MMO your just supposed to book your ass to somewhere near the lvel cap and count yourself lucky you got a few memorable groups along the way. A glaring flaw I admit but don't act like any successful MMO out now isn't subject to it.

I have always wanted to give EQ 2 a try. I've never been willing to invest the initial box price to do so.  This will give me a chance to do a decent trial of the game w/o dropping a big chunk of cash.  Seems like a decent deal to me.

Unfortunately, they're not likely to bring this out before FFXIV releases and I'm more interested in investing some time in that game atm.

That's the plan. EQ2X gets exclusive access to the best 'trial' system EQ2 has had to date while regular EQ2 servers don't even get to keep the current trial system. Absolutely no trial available for regular EQ2 when EQ2X offiicially launches.

I didn;t want to start a new thread so i decited to ask here. I like the new ui from EQ2X and was wondering how long does it usually take for them to move patches from test servers to official? I wonder how long I will have to wait to see the new spell graphics and ui on the official servers.

I think this goes live in 2 weeks.  Most things don't spend long in testing for soe games.

Unfortunately I don't know the answer to this, but I wish I did as well. I think the new UI is fantastic compared to the current one.

Only if SOE sells it to another MMO publisher/Developer.

I enjoyed EQ2, love it (Vanguard as well) but I made a decision about a year ago to never again support SOE as a MMO publisher/Developer for many reasons. I will never again purchase, subscribe to, and/or play any Online Game/MMO that SOE offers.

    LOL idiotsheep

The only way players can say "no" to this new business model if they dont like it, is to vote with their wallets : by cancelling and not re-subbing to the company in charge. If we really want to see some idiocy around here, it's certainly more in your comment than in the part you quote.

I dont disagree with the model in itself. A progressive sub-system where you can pay differently according of your play time, and involvement in the game always sounded fair to me. What is not is the greediness of some MMO companies (or the firms owning them) who seem to put most of their creativity in finding ways to get the most money out of their players. Sadly, as someone said in the thread it seems the only MMO revolution we're going to witness in the coming years is in the pricing models, not in the gameplay at all.

When I first heard that EQ2 was going F2P, the first thought that popped into my head was "Hell yeah!  Awesome".  I was quite excited, having played this game until Shadow Oddyssey.  Figured it would be nice to give the game another shot.

Then I saw some of the restrictions on the Free accounts... and even the Pay accounts on the Extended servers.  I was absolutely floored at the restrictions.  Restrictions to Fabled & Legendary items, restrictions on spell tiers, restricted races & classes (would be fine if they were unlocked with Silver service...).

Sadly, I will not play EQ2 extended.  In its current state, EQ2X will be more Pay2Win than most F2P games out there.  I would rather just purchase Sentinals Fate and pay the sub if I wanted to play EQ2 again.

  • mmoguy43mmoguy43 Member UncommonPosts: 2,770

Heh... looks more like Don't Pay and Suck than Pay to Win because those that are paying are not any more powerful than before.

Its an interesting change and I look forward to see how it works out. But me personally- I'm done with EQ2 and moved on long ago so it doesn't matter what they do. I'm not coming back.

I'll end up trying it. Probably not anything more than that.

  • lovebuglovebug Member UncommonPosts: 260

yep i will be trying it for sure played eq2 since it went live but now dont play half has much.

you can play this and get by just fine with adapt spells just fine in pve ive loads of toons on the normal servers that only has adapt spells has master and up spells way to much to buy in the action house.

i hope there are a few going to try this would be great to go though all the low lv content dungeons again in groups, because on the normal server im on its dead at low lvs  even at lv53 with a warden i can not find groups the normal servers are all top end now.

and i would not recomend anyone new going to a normal server now.

I would say you can get by fine 1-80 solo with all those restrictions, but you want to play any of the high end content (read as: where all the development goes) then you will need to go ALL in. Experts are the minimum requirement (just under masters) and you'll be laughed out of groups sporting a ton of treasured gear.

Normal servers would be better if they allowed free transfers OFF the overcrowded ones, merged the lower ones or implemented ANY population control methods at all. Instead they have been working hard on getting this EQ2X bull going for the past couple of months.

Like was said, its more like "don't pay and suck" than pay2win. Thye offer lots of stuff in those shops but literally none of it will help you in hard dungeons or raids.

Hell no! Never! I'll be sticking with my regular P2P EQ2 for sure!

  • LadyAlibiLadyAlibi Member UncommonPosts: 297

I have some serious reservations, looking at that matrix, but I will probably check it out, in all honesty. It should be fun to play with other people at the low levels (since I was VERY late to the EQ2 party) and maybe I can use Extended to get friends' feet in the door so that they'd consider coming to the regular servers.

I know some people say the $200 a year is a good deal if you count the station cash, but I am really not wild about the subscription + cash shop combo (even as a player of other cash shop games), and I just don't pay for games on a yearly basis. I am not that stable in my relationship with games, and at $15 a month, I can go play an account I already have (albeit without all the expansions at this time). 3 out of their 4 available free races aren't ones I care for. Virtually all the classes I prefer need to be bought, or are available at $15 a month, at which point I might as well reactivate my existing account.

Of course, I say this now, but the next thing you know, I'll be subscribed to Extended and trying to justify to myself why I am doing it. (LOL)

I'm actually going to give it a go. Been in the test and it works just fine, My old EQ2 server is pretty dead so the idea of starting on a fresh server and meeting new people is appealing.

I really don't think they should allow people to clone characters to it though for at least a few months. Gives a chance for the new starters to set the economy and levels to stabilize before a bunch of geared level 90s start appearing and farming everything.

lol economy? most of the stuff that runs it is buyable off the marketplace. Harvestables, mastercrafted gear, plus the potion that increases coin dropped by 25%.

and you stupidly assume everyone will be buying everything on sale all the time.

Where did I say everyone will be buying everything all the time? No where. Are the insults really necessary?

I meant the economy will be laughable. Due to these just being available and there will be some people buying them, the economy on EQ2X servers will already be much worse than the regular ones inside a month or two and wouldn't need any help from high level players copying over.

I can actually play on the EQ2X test servers right now. I've played a lot of MMO's including F2P and I have never seen such a gigantic variety of highly impacting items for sale in a cash shop. It's not just a couple more things, it's MUCH more. They're primed to make the chinese MMO cash shops look like crappy lemonade stands in terms of what they're selling.

Like I said earlier, you can buy everything you could possibly need for every aspect of the game short of equipment to do hard group and all raid content. It's pretty cheap too, could easily remove yourself from the economy entirely with $15 a month on cash store items as it is.

Previously I had planned on playing, but after doing more research and finding out that the Bronze and Silver levels have no access to buy or sell from the AH I wont be playing.

Folks are worried about the economy because of the RMT items for sale...forget that...the economys going to be dead cause only those who are subscribing will be able to access it.

  • Dionysus187Dionysus187 Member Posts: 302

that's the idea. People play 'for free' but since they can't access the broker (eq2 AH) they shell out cash to buy mastercrafted gear and harvestables from the cash shop.

And before you say anything there is literally no support for the economy outside the broker, so if people want to sell and buy things they will have to do it the old school EQ1 way. Everyone spamming channels with WTB/WTS.
