That character is level 10, what do you really think it should look like?
a level 10 warrior in WoW has alot more action than i see in this FFXIV video, really
disregard this comment please. there is no WoW, its just a fabrication of 11million peoples mind. its the biggest group think screwover next to religion.
Wow = skill spamming and gear > actual skill imo ( played the game for 2 years so im not just speaking randomly) The time where u neeeded the most skill was when you were doing raid bosses or maybe some pvp.
ffxi and ffxiv = actual skill > skill spamming and gear (the reason gear is in this second category is because it was important, but not to the point where it could break your char. ive seen lvl 75's do fine in thier lvl 60 relic armor, but wearing lvl 10 gear will break your char though lol). in ff series you need skill 90% of the times even against regular mobs.
so long story short, WoW was based on fast combat action, and ff series is based on slower combat with more thought into combat. please dont compare the two when it comes to combat.
lol what the hell dude, i don't compare anything. i just say that a level 10 warrior in WoW delivers more action then the character i see in the video. excuse me <.<
i wasnt implying anything bad. you did make a comparison though, or a personal opinion, on WoW action vs the ffxiv video. the fact that you added another game into your statement makes it a comparison. the proper way to say it would have been, " a lvl 10 war in WoW has the fastest combat ive ever seen".
What are you talking about? They have up to 1-12 players in a game. They have custom games, where you can do scripting to create your own game mode. You guys need to do a bit of research, before you post. It just makes your intelligence as comparable to a retard.
1-12 still does not make it an "MMO" , nothing massive about it...
Yo Final Fantasy 14, I'm happy for you, and Imma let you finish but Starcraft 2 is the best MMO of 2010.
... and so the term "MMORPG" has lost its meaning, as any game that comes out with multiplayer mode will now automatically be considered a "MMORPG" by some.
YO DOG, that's why I used the term "MMO". Instead of "MMORPG". You need to learn to read, bro, you blind or something?
Massively Multiplayer Online -- I see no "massive" SC2 games going on. Pretty small. I actually get larger Counter-Strike games going.
As stated, online doesn't = MMO. The term MMO doesn't even make sense without following what type of game it is; mmoFPS, RPG, etc.
Massively Multiplayer Online => A BIG ONLINE WHAT THO!?
Next time just say "online game."
That's in fact your own opinion. SC2 has "massive" games going on, but that's just me. Maybe it's because my penis is only 2 inches ,that's why I think three players are a lot,
You mind aswell call every single strategy game out there mmos aswell as every coop game that allows 3+ players. If anyone has ever failed on this forum before you just hit the n1 spot.

Let me get this straight, is LoL or HoN counted as a MMO?

i would consider Mag an mmofps. to me a games doesnt reach mmo status until you can get 50 people in one game, playing at the same time. although i felt that diablo 2 should have been an mmo when i was younger, i realize thats its just an online rpg. the same goes for SC2. its just an online rts.
I'm suprised no one mentioned (I think - skimmed through replies) that he's showing off combat with level 10 characters with minimal gear. I'm sure there are haste items in the game that speed up cast and swing times as well as faster TP generation and the like. Look at how slow WoW's combat is the first 10 levels.

No not an mmo....i know they have a forum for it on this site but some games they decide to put here are just odd.
LoL and HoN are just like FPS but without the...FPS. Low number of players matched against an opposing team which IMO, would NOT be considered a MMO. But in a way, would be considered MMO counting the amount of players actually online for the game. :P

I still would not consider 50 an MMO, but that is my opinion.
Interest shift of the thread here from XIV's combat, to fans trying to prove to everyone that XI was a lot more solo friendly than most the people have been saying it was for years, yes years now, and now we've got arguments about SC2 being an MMO. SC2 is not an MMO.
I am curious though, someone said this was alpha? I don't mind slow combat, but towards the end he was whacking on something and it didn't appear to be hitting back at all. It's not e very high quality video though with this constant droning sound I think is being described as talking too. I would like to see some vidoes on party play, and large mobs which, hopefully, hit back more often and with unqiue attacks of their own.
parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.
Killing time for an average mob at this rate is what? One minute ? Even more ?
Since the game will not have PvP, the slow PVE combat could lead to a terrible grind feeling. "Go kill 30 species of X", with each X representing 1 minute of axing the target...
Like sports, the faster the execution the more people will watch (watch pro League footbal and compare it with your local team).
What's up with these designers these days? Apparently they live on Mars.
Okay - yes, it's on the slow-paced side compared to most mmos out right now, but let's be fair here. If you watch the beta phase 3 videos, the guy averages about 30 seconds per kill on what would be the equivalent of a "decent challenge" enemy. He does take closer to a min to kill dodos, but if you watch his previous videos - you basically had to kite those for 3 mins or approach with a group in the last phase so you can assume that's meant to be about an even match to a tough mob for a soloer.
From what I've seen of guildleves so far, the quantities you're asked to kill are more like 3-6. So let's say 6 mobs, that take you a minute each (including time needed for healing up and such) - add in some transit time and the possibility they'll run away or summon allies - you're talking maybe 10-15 mins for a solo difficulty leve. SE themselves have said the leve quests are designed to take about 30 mins max soloing and I hear the rewards are quite generous. It's really not that bad.
Rocs Lock (beta tester on youtube that posts videos) says on one of his videos that it took him about 50 mins to get from level 1-10, which is less than the average player takes to go that length in WoW. That was in phase 2 before everything was sped up and damage/quest xp gain were significantly increased. I don't think the grind will be as bad as you expect.
I'm suprised no one mentioned (I think - skimmed through replies) that he's showing off combat with level 10 characters with minimal gear. I dunno FFXI was my first MMO so maybe this is why but I never once thought that the fights were too long. They were long yes but I never had a problem with it.. if that makes sense. The community and game was just a lot of fun.
Back on topic, it doesn't seem very slow. Past videos, I've seen have shown it to be quite slow, but this seems to be a bit faster. Looks fun to say at the least.
with that i end my statment , again , your wrong.take it to the ffxi forums.

The strong oint of 11 was the endgame content , aparently u didnt get that far, so is normal you didnt get to like the game. The bad side of 11 was that was not solo friendly,( i dont get were you get that your able to solo everythin ,wtf?of course , there was a lot of thins that with a decent player with the addecuated class you could solo some thins , but this was rare cases) and extremely grindy/dificult at end game. Also the game hardware/graphics was really old so couldnt atract new players.
The lv grind was boring as hell.
All i ask of 14 at this point is that they give the same quality end game content they did on 11.Everythin else they have showed so far , already got me convinced ill play it.

Eastern europe and western people (Yep Canadian here) , we aren't really in the manga mumbo jumbo industry of Asia . Just give us a sword some nice skills and some body parts flying all over the place and we're happy. All this stuff about graphics and crap on a MMO is getting abit too far. We also primary PVP , it's fun and face paced , a MMO that fails to deliver in that area will most likely be a failure from our point of view.
I love how you speak for such a large percentage of the world.
Do me a favor: don't ever speak for me again, ok? Thanks. Because you are so far off base of who I am and what I want out of an MMO that it's frightening.
No, I'm not into most manga, but some of it, if it has a compelling story, is tolerable.
I need more than "just a sword and some nice skills." Like a story. Preferably one that makes sense and is coherent. Probably not one written by you (it's "Europeans" and "they're in a very tiny minority") before you've learned to write in English (unless you are a native French speaker, which I doubt because your sentence structure is typical of a native English speaker). Body parts flying all over the place, however, is always a bonus, provided that it fits in the context of the game in question. Generally speaking, blood and body parts are never a bad thing.
I hope you are joking about "graphics and crap." If a game looks and sounds horrible, I'm pretty much going to uninstall within about an hour. I choose to believe that was sarcasm because if it wasn't, my response is far too rude for these boards and I generally try not to be deliberately insulting.
You may choose to make your gameplay primarily PvP, but a large portion of people in most of the 6 continents other than Asia do not. In point of fact, players who choose to make PvP their primary mode of gameplay are a minority among the 63,000,000 people in the United States alone (or 21% of the population of the United States) who identified themselves as gamers according to the 2009 National Gamers Survey. I am one of the majority of players who opt to partake in PvP only on very rare occasions - say about once or twice a year.
Kindly pull your head out of...the sand and stop speaking for the billions of people in the world who do not live in Asia when you are simply offering your own opinion. Thank you.
Back on topic, based on the video, the combat is really far slower than what I would like to see in any game. I suspect I would fall asleep in between attacks, so I do not think the game will be for me when it releases. But if you enjoy it, more power to you and I hope you have a great time.
"You are obviously confusing a mature rating with actual maturity." -Asherman
Maybe MMO is not your genre, go play Modern Warfare...or something you can be all twitchy...and rank up all night. This is seriously getting tired. -Ranyr

One very important aspect is difficulty , we love a good challenge but when everything is handed to us from Lvl 1 (Typical Asian games) it's just boring and dull so therefor we come in the forums and diss the game.

Typical FFXI party : A tank , 4-5 nukers , a healer : Tank runs around tree while holding aggro and nukers just nuke away while standing still. "Sigh" ... Main reason why I ain't anticipating FFXIV. If they're going in with the same mindset then what they did with FFXI , it will succeed abit longer then FFXI but will eventually hit rock bottom. I sometimes wonder what would of happened if they released a FF MMO back in the 90's , back in the days of Cecil , Kain , Tellah ,Rydia , Sabin ,Edgar , Shadow and so on ... just thinking about it is giving me a real hard on... ahhh good old 2D FF , it's like drinking a cold beer and being hit by a baseball bat in the groin , you just can't get enough of , well except maybe for the baseball bat part.
Anyways some Europeens and Americans like it easy mode , but their in a very tiny minority.
With that said , I hope you find pleasure in this upcoming FF MMO.
I agree....at least with the point about difficulty it is indeed important which was one of the reasons i loved FF11 since it was way harder than most other MMOs (especially the most favorite one)
Kind of most other points i would have to disagree with tho for they were not even close to actually be true.
Like u say that new players were lost since u could play all classes with 1 character i had to laugh reading this i am sry but did u even think before u wrote that?
I mean if players playing more than one class would be the reason for an MMO to loose players than wouldn't that affect all MMOs since well u might not be able to lvl all Jobs with the same character but that didn't stop most to lvl all classes with different characters so its the same thing really isn't it?(I at least dont see a different s between ok lets pt i go switch job and ok lets pt ill log on my toon.....do u??)
As for the Typical FFXI party well u r wrong again there were some pt setups which were preferred for lvling that's true but if u didn't had a refreshing class with u it wasn't going to be a good one and depending on what u were lvling on your class setup had to be different anyway (Casters on Autoreflect mob not a good idea lol)
Anyways some Europeans and Americans like to make up stuff and state them as fact...seems like some Canadians do so as well

Really do you not realize that this is the rpg part of the mmo?
What has the extreme long killing time of a simple mob to do with RPG I wonder ? Perhaps you can explain.
Is it perhaps more immersive to bang 20 times a chicken on the head with an axe (each time lowering its health with .. 4%..) and more "meaningful".
I was interested in FF14, but after seeing this and the lack of PvP, I will not even upload the Beta. Sorry guys, but killing things at 1 minute per static - not even moving - mob is a straight way to boredom.

Lol come on, rats and other small animals are ALWAYS in the beginning of MMOs. Believing your own BS or...? How many monsters move in MMOs when you're fighting them? Nearly never. And hell, they actually do in this game, certain ones I hear. A magical creature trying to kite the player with spells, some monsters running at low hp.
And I imagine you won't upload the beta as you have to download it first.
Come on, I'm very much looking forward to the game yet see some faults with it but you're not even trying here. You obviously must hate every MMO on the market with a list like that and thus while your opinions might be valid for yourself, they're hardly universal truths here.

I have to agree here with darea.
I played the beta and so far i have encounter monster that run away, try to flank you, hide underground, call for reinforcements, and so on.Of course theres some mobs that doesnt move or atack slowly , but thats hardly the case as you advance. It just gets more challenging.
About the small criters at start, well is FF what could you expect D=.they just following their IP.Beating fluffy thins at start that leads to a massive battle along the story is always been part of the ff games ( as long as i remember and with some exceptions of course ).

Yep - it's part of the standard FF formula. Start out fighting rats - end up fighting gods.
I agree with most here after seeing this video, this game is looking pretty nice when you consider the level and limited abilities of the in-game character, thanks for the link, I finally feel like fall is on the way with all of it's gaming goodness. I have never played FF before this so I am by no means a fanboi but merely a fan of well-made games and I believe the odds of Square-Enix putting out a bad follow-up to their block-buster title would be about as probable as Blizzard putting out a bad game for the Warcraft franchise....it's just not happening.
This thread reminds me of the Aion forums before release. A lot of worthless stuff and stupidity. It's not even on topic anymore, admin should close it.
In my personal opinion this game looks utterly awful when it comes to combat, and the music make me want to stab myself. Of course thats how every asian market mmorpg that I've ever seen makes me feel. I've no idea how people can get into sitting there watching combat so boring. Whatever, it's all about personal preference. I'll just play other games that look like they could be more fun combat wise than clipping my fingernails. I hope this game doesn't grab to big a hunk of the mmorpg market.

Maybe MMO is not your genre, go play Modern Warfare...or something you can be all twitchy...and rank up all night. This is seriously getting tired. -Ranyr
Anyways some Europeans and Americans like to make up stuff and state them as fact...seems like some Canadians do so as well
What has the extreme long killing time of a simple mob to do with RPG I wonder ? Perhaps you can explain.
Is it perhaps more immersive to bang 20 times a chicken on the head with an axe (each time lowering its health with .. 4%..) and more "meaningful".
I was interested in FF14, but after seeing this and the lack of PvP, I will not even upload the Beta. Sorry guys, but killing things at 1 minute per static - not even moving - mob is a straight way to boredom.
This is just bad game design.
