Anyways my pc apparently can't run because of my processor  Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33GHZ

And my graphics card is also to low  and I am needing to upgrade power supply to upgrade that any further.

     My wifes PC is newer

Win 7  Home Premium  Gateway DX4300

Processors are AMD Phenom II x4 810 2.60 GHz

    ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

    8 gig ram

not sure what other info my buddy asked for really

As to the post that we were ripped off ... not really  her older pc was crap and we were running Aion at the time and her pc handles that great so it wasn't a waste of anything. She also plays wow when she has time and it runs that verry well also.

The Core 2 Quad is more than powerful enough to run this game.

Your wife's video card is pretty bad and would have trouble running most recent games with high settings (and it seems like the only options FFXIV has are "high" and "really high" lol...), I'm not sure if the video card in your computer is better or not.

There we go I got a quote to work so you know who i am talking to.... My graphics card is

ATI Radeon HD 3450       I am aware its not great since I ran Aion like crap and went with bargain over performance at the time since I was in the military and didn't get to play much anyways. Now that I am haven a lot more time (and really looking forward to some of the titles on the horizon)  I am almost willing to throw some money at  my pc  but not for 1 game ya know.

No one is telling you to buy a 200 dollar card. You can get a decent one for 60-80 and then you can pretty much play anything with normal settings

Yeah I know what you are sayen. And I appreciate all the info that you 2 are throwing my way. But keeping the OP in mind I am not here trolling or sayen this game is gonna fail. I just think the game is gonna take more than my pc can handle. Also keep in mind I won't have to upgrade just 1 pc here but 2.  May just have to see how the game turns out before comitting to that. Not to keep bringing it up, but Aion was fairly demanding on our pc's at the time and we determined it was time for a new pc for one of us. Now this is coming in about a month and neither will be able to run it well, if at all.  I am sure it's gonna be beautiful to look at and all but I mean cmon. I mentioned I am from a console background so I am a little annoyed at haven to upgrade pieces to run games and I realize its necessary at some point. But this soon, meh. I do hope it's a good game though and you fellas with the rigs to handle it enjoy yourselves.

Lol your computer is way way more then enough to run any game out right now at maxed out settings if it werent for your graphic card just.

If it was me I wouldn't get anything lower than a GTX 250 or a Radeon 4850, and those sell for around $100.  Below that, there's so little drop in price for a huge drop in performance that it isn't really worth it...

Hmm  thanks for the info. You wouldn't happen to know the power supply requirements would you. I know the one that a geek squad member at best buy was telling me to get would have required a bigger power supply than I have.

I believe both of those cards require 1 6-pin power connector and should be able to run just fine on a 500 or 550 watt power supply.

This is what I generally use for performance charting.

Has Processor, GPU, and HDD/SSD. While it's only a test and doesn't reflect ACTUAL gameplay, I'd say it's pretty accurate.

It is fairly accurate, however for example the Radeon 5870 is generally faster in games than the GTX 470, and the 5850 is usually tied with or slightly below the GTX 470.  Since this is just a single test (and not even a game) then there will be some things that don't quite match up with what you'd experience in an actual game.

LMAO yeah. My buddy sent me there and I printed that out and had it with me at best buy trying to match what they had with what was on the list. I think that put the target on my back for an easy sell to the geek squad. Once he started asking me questions and realized how little I actually knew he almost had me walking outta there with almost $400 worth or parts. Luckily a little wife aggro stopped me. Thanks for the info though Benthon cause looking at my list I am seeing it was a little out dated.

It's just a single test, correct, but the results come from thousands of users using that hardware. It's safe to say that if you find the 8800 around the 1k mark, you can base your performance GPU wise around that.

Although I've heard the Red's are having some trouble right now in game?

If I remember right, FFXIV is a nVidia "TWIMTBP" game, so chances are that at launch at least nVidia cards will run the game better since nVidia will have had longer to optimize their drivers for the game.  Shortly after launch, however, either maker could end up with the lead or they could be fairly equal.

Jesus! NEVER EVER BUY that crap from Best Buy, Staples, etc... I got fired from Staples 4 years ago in Easy Tech for being honest to customers when they asked about things like this. Their hardware is old and outdated but sold as new and powerful.

Staples is going to go bankrupt too. Rofl

I agree, something that would cost you $200+ in Best Buy will cost you $100 online at a store like www.newegg.com .  Never ever buy computer parts in a brick-and-mortar store!!!

Do you have a suggestion where to buy then? I know ordering stuff is usually the way to go, but if I had done that I woulda ordered a vid card and waited for it to get here only to find that I also needed to order a new power supply to handle the vid card. I beleive mine came with a 300 watt stock and any upgrades I do will be my first ever.  So I kinda need the sales reps at the moment.

Well, kinda need a full rundown of your specs (motherboard, cpu, ram, hard drive) to beable to help you. If you've got a 300watt computer, I'm going to assume it's quite outdated. You can't just throw in a new GPU and call it good. Your CPU, RAM, and GPU all work as a team, and when one is slow all are slow, in a sense, with less emphasis on ram speed

Buy from Newegg, definitely. Look for Combo Deals, Shell Shockers, Guerilla Attacks, and the weekly newsletter.

I remember the first time I upgraded my computer, I had to upgrade to 8800 GT and got a new 550 W power supply for age of conan.    I was so nervous but,  I followed every direction and looked up over ten differant installs people did, and took the most popular way of doing it,..

The powersupply was the hardest, as I never knew what whent to what.   Just keep in mind that how many pins the connector has to what device, and where it plugs into. Its pretty simple, just four pins, six pins, three pins.   Did it after carfully putting colored stickers where I had to plug everything in....

My graphics card was not too bad either,  only thing you want to make sure of is if your motherboard has the connector slot that matches these high end game cards, which is usually a PCI Express x 16 slot.     Make sure to follow the instructions that came with it too.  I had to download the drivers from nvidia that matched my card,  then uninstall my video driver in add  and remove programs, then put in my card, start up computer, cancel the you have new hardware popups, and then double-click the driver I downloaded, and follow all the directions for setting up the drivers.

You actually recieved one of the last cards to go into a PCI-E x16 slot. The late 9 series onward is ALL PCI-E 2.0.

Yeah,  I think it was like PCI Express x 1,  then PCI Express x 16, then PCI Express 2.0, 2.1.      They keep coming up with new ones every day.

Thanks for the help fellas. I didn't think my pc was outdated exactly since I bought it apr of 09. And my wifes less than 3 months ago. I origonally posted here cause i wanted to play FFXIV and if both pc's were gonna have issues then whats the point? I play everything with my buddy and my wife and seeing him say he wont play it cause of the demand, I am leery. The wife will go wherever I do because she enjoys hangen with me and my bud so if I can at least get one of the pc's up to par then I suppose I could just play this on PS3. Anyways gives me some more crap to look up and figure out so I can present it to the boss of the house and see what I am allowed to spend on said project.

YOu got to remember too the ps3 quality wont be as good as PC and is why they are releasing it six months later then the release of PC.   I cant remember where the dev talked about this quality differance but I'll edit it in when I find it.

If you're ever looking into a new computer, think about building your own first. You'll save tons of money. Heck, a good machine that'll run FFXIV is probably only $600-700.

If you look at my Sig your see my computer setup  , now i change my CPU the other day but befor i was using the follow:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3.2 GHz Processor

and i upgraded to the cpu in my sig , now just by changing my CPU my FFXIV Benchmark scores went like this :

    Old CPU -

    High : 2104

    Low : 2457

    New CPU -

    High : 3367

    Low : 4507

Now look at the scores... a massive diffrence just by changing the CPU... if your using AMD u should get the one ive got.

I was talking about this once and trying to figure out where to start. The thing is my lady is really ok with whatever I decide to do as long as we get our moneys worth. That being said my pc isn't too old and buying another pc so soon is outta the question for me.  I feel like that would be a huge waste of money. But upgrading parts is showing me that I need more info before I dive in and do so. And building from scratch is outta the question since I don't even know enough about upgrading as is. I was thinking I could swing just upgrading till I realized how many other things I might need to upgrade just to run the first upgrade!! So yeah it has crossed my mind since I have issues with buying a new pc every couple years to keep up just because I don't know how to upgrade as needed.

To be honest with you, I'm running a 2.4 ghz single core, a 8800 GT, and with 3 gig of ram, on windows xp 32 bit.  Every single game I have ever played including conan can be ran on this.  I run lotro on ultra high with no prolems.  I'm waiting to see the final release of final fantasy XIV,  I bought the collectors and the regular one just in case I get stuck with a crapy bonus item....   main thing to do right now, is to wait until release,  I'm going to be trying it on my system as is first, and then based on that, I will decide which way to go,  but when ever you upgrade, try to look for the highest amount of upgrade for the price, even if you have to pay 50 bucks extra.   Like when the 8800 hit the shelf, I dint buy it till it was on sale, seeing as it was 33.6 texture fill, it was worth the extra fifty bucks instead of having 20 texture fill.   When dual core came out, I never bought it, because dual core is only worth having if the games you play take advantage of it,  my single core 2.4 could run every game out np, mostly because no games offerd advantage of dual core yet, So now that a dual core game like FFXIV is coming out, I wont have to pay much to upgrade to dual core since its been out for long time already.  First I would like to see what the best dual core is for the buck and what FFXIV needs, I do the most upgrade possible as long as the buck is less then the quality offerd. And for the graphics card, I'm probably going to wait if it can still run it great, if not, I'll definatly be upgrading as high as i can as long as its a deal.

I'm a cheap bastard, but I'll be damed if I'm going to run a game crapy even if I have to get a new motherboard.

Well, if you really want to build something, PM me your budget and I'll Newegg everything. I do it as a hobby/job thing everyday, and won't charge you anything. :P

Send me your old computer hardware aswell (motherboard, cpu, hdd, ram) and I'll see if we can't get some new parts for you.

and i upgraded to the cpu in my sig , now just by changing my CPU my FFXIV Benchmark scores went like this :

    Old CPU -

    High : 2104

    Low : 2457

    New CPU -

    High : 3367

    Low : 4507
