I stopped playing arcade games a long time ago.  I hope you can skip the space warfare without hurting your character development.

You never had to do it in the first place. Its all optional.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

You can,  they said that space combat and such is a way that you can get upgrades for your ship and stuff like that.  I doubt there will be many forced space missions, save for possibly the first one to show you what it has to offer.  Other than that, I suppose you won't be playing it much for anything other then ship upgrades.  I'm sure you'll be able to get those through an AH too though. Still too early to tell.

Bioware made it quite clear that space combat will be only a side feature, they may expand it later adding pvp and co op, something you can do if you want to have a break from the main story / gameplay.

I play games to have fun

And atleast this looks like fun

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

hmm to my surprise, this actually looks good and fun, im sure it will be more different on release, but my hopes for the space combat is now alive again after seeing it, keep the good work Bio!

    So What Now?

Wow... It does look awesome!  Can't wait to try it! It does look really polished! Maybe not "sandbox" but at least it does look fun!

  • VerterdegeteVerterdegete Member UncommonPosts: 247

Lol, SWToRs hype meter actually droped after this video.

It looks like the combat is of the type 3D Scroller (think DemonStar but in 3D, or if anyone remembers X-Tom 3D).

  • mmoguy43mmoguy43 Member UncommonPosts: 2,770

It looks ok. I expect it may be fun for a while.

  • LiltawenLiltawen Member UncommonPosts: 245

Don't bother to release something half baked. They didn't spend $150mil developing Star Trek or EVE. Star Wars has to be at least as good as them or better.

  • SwaneaSwanea Member UncommonPosts: 2,401

The graphics part and the shooting looks great.

If they made this free flying, I think it would be amazing.  And I mean super awesome epicly amazing.  But I just can't get excited about a rail shooter much :.

Here's hoping they change it down the road.

They spend 150 mil $ to develop this ?

    3D arcade minigame ?

Shame for Bioware, real shame. This could have been ultimate deep RPG MMO. Something Bioware would be proud , like Baldurs Gate.

Instead its a casual simplified game aimed at ADD audience.

Someone will say. Yes. But that is what brings the money.

Unfortunately , the failures of recent MMOs prove just the opposite: MMO players want complex , and deep gameplay.

SWTOR is just a wasted opportunity

  • mmoguy43mmoguy43 Member UncommonPosts: 2,770

Yeah, all the time and money they spend on TOR was into  this, sure.

No, they didn't spend $150 million to develop this.  The spent $150 million to develop a huge game of which this is 1 side feature.

You took the words out of my mouth. They threw a small bone out to take a quick look at a side feature. In my opinion, these type of options are great. the graphics continue to improve, the animation was smooth, the 3D and colors were awesome. I for one continue to be optimistic, have faith in Bioware regardless if this is their first MMO, and believe this game is going to succeed.

    There Is Always Hope!

TOR's space combat part costed indeed 150 mil. And Bioware clearly stated that it will be the games main focus. When players wan't a break from space they can land on one of the 12 planets and experience the games side feature. You know, level a class, experience the story, pvp, raid, craft stuff.

If you wan't to troll at least do it in a semi intellect way.

Still, Im not sure how they can create a Sci-Fi Star Wars MMO and get away with de-emphasizing space.

Ah well. Its the MMO that we are focusing on , is it not?

  • purewitzpurewitz Member UncommonPosts: 489

I can't wait, this is epic, space combat that has a purpose. I'd rather fly a epic movie-like senario, than just flying around in an empty void doing nothing. This game gets better and better with each reveal. This is turning out to be my perfect game. Its like everything their doing, its like they're reading my mind.

When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!

Stupid Bioware! How could the ymake a gorund based traditional MMORPG and not have free roaming, seamless galaxy spanning, trading and twitch based space combat! This game is fail!!!!

Ok now I'm off to the Jumpgate Evolution adn Black prophecy  forums to say how those games are complete fail because they don't have stat based ground combat on huge, sandbox FFA full loot pvp unique planets in every  solar system.

    Hehe, nice one.

Although don't be surprised if there are people doing exactly what you're saying here.

Yeah, a long interesting story game with lengthy dialogue is for the ADD crowd. This mini-game is nothing more then a distraction. Never played a game with something small and simple, yet interesting and fun.

  • ZeroxinZeroxin Member UncommonPosts: 2,515

I know I've said this before but couldn't they have at least given us Star Trek Space combat or even Halo Reach? I'm not dissapointed just unimpressed.... *sigh*

    This is not a game.

Aha...yes. Thats exactly what i meant. That they spent whole 150mil on the space combat.

Very intelligent deduction , expected of you.

In other news. Whole production budget of  "X-Wing vs Tie Fighter" was 60.000 $

    Question:

So if 60.000$ can pay for one of the best space combat sims, how much money out of 150.000.000 $ did Bioware used for SWTOR space mini game ?
