Shame for Bioware, real shame. This could have been ultimate deep RPG MMO. Something Bioware would be proud , like Baldurs Gate.
Instead its a casual simplified game aimed at ADD audience.
Someone will say. Yes. But that is what brings the money.
Unfortunately , the failures of recent MMOs prove just the opposite: MMO players want complex , and deep gameplay.
SWTOR is just a wasted opportunity
Seriously? That was the worst troll attempt I have seen in recent memory... you are giving real trolls a bad name. Way too blatant and obviously wrong. Try again... or not.

Yeah, its terrible. They spent that whole 150 million on the space combat.
Aha...yes. Thats exactly what i meant. That they spent whole 150mil on the space combat.
Very intelligent deduction , expected of you.
In other news. Whole production budget of "X-Wing vs Tie Fighter" was 60.000 $
Question:
So if 60.000$ can pay for one of the best space combat sims, how much money out of 150.000.000 $ did Bioware used for SWTOR space mini game ?
It would behoove you to say exactly what you mean and not just say things just to say them.
On a side note, how much money DID BioWare use to create the space experience in the game? Any idea? Because I don't have a single guess on that one, but if I had to take a guess I'd say it was a minimal amount in comparison to the rest of the game. Not 150 million.. alas not even 149 million.

Right and of course 60.000$ pays for the development of a modern game with modern graphics that has to be integrated into a complex online game.
And even if that ridiculous argument were true, it wouldn't change a freaking thing, because they don't want to make a new X-Wing vs TIE, they don't want to create two games in one, they want to make an optional space experience for people to have some fun with before they return to the main thing.

Not to go off topic, but what exactly would you consider it?
I'm torn, I liked and still love space in swg so I was hoping for something similar, but then I remember there so few other people besides myself who like space who still play swg, so I have to imagine, the marketing people at bioware had to do some research on it right, and found out most like the POB (multiple people)/gunships only for housing? I mean swg space combat isn't that bad, but most only get to pilot ace in swg so they can have a POB which from what I can tell is what our houses/ships are going to be TOR minus the ability to fly it around freely?
When i watched the video it reminded me of River Raid and I wanted to cry. It looked nice, sure, but river raid? I will still likely get the game because I trust bioware will put together and interesting story, but my hypemeter did go down. I'm going to go /pout now.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
It doesnt look that bad, I would play it like 20-30 mins everyday for a week or two, and then what? continue paying $15 a month?
The game is very static railroad mode, Its like dragon age reskinned to star wars. I would buy the game if no monthly sub like dragon age. It is not worth the monthly sub at this point.

Yes because you're paying 15$ a month for just the space combat.
Can you please tell me why this game isn't worth the sub? I'm interested in how everything works, how polished is this game? Reply please.

Pacman cost $100.000 so this mustve cost a fortune:)).no troll intended
I like this natural selection thing: these announcements automatically filter out any MMO gamer stupid enough to believe that the space combat minigames is all there is to SW:TOR, that it will be nothing more than a singleplayer MMO (really, how DUMB must someone be to believe THAT , might as well say WoW and LotrO are singleplayer games bc you can solo to level cap), and that know that the game will be terrible while not even having played it and ignoring most of the information available about SW:TOR.
All those won't do nothing but whining on forums but luckily not be playing SW:TOR. Great stuff

Looks nice and fun too I can't wait til launch as I've stated before for a Star Wars fan who also enjoys mmo's this will be like a second chance for me since SWG was my induction into mmo's and in my opinion what Bioware is doing this time around is much closer to what I want out of a Star Wars game than SWG ever was.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I can provide you with all the needed info, links, articles, interviews and dev updates, showing exactly the oposite. But i'd like to ask you to elaborate on the "The game is very static railroad mode" you state, if ofc you're familiar with the term "elaborate". And do provide us the source you got your info from, if you don't mind.
Originally posted by cagan It is not worth the monthly sub at this point.
I'll agree with that.
Then again, we are 8-10 months from a release and the game is still going thru beta, so who the heck would pay to play it at this point?
Ahhhh, I get it, you are saying that based on the limited information that you have, you feel that way, and that the information you have is going to be indicative of the entire game. While you are prognosticating, can you give me the lottery numbers?
Seriously though, the game is what it is, and most of the venom seems to come from a few groups of folks. Those who felt that SWG was the end all be all of Star Wars games and of MMO's. Those folks feel that TOR should emulate SWG. The other group seems to be the folks who feel that the only way to make an MMO is as a complete sandbox, and dont like the Bioware direction.
This is just me, but I know what I prefer, but it doesnt mean it is the only way, or that if a game goes a different direction it cant be fun. I know I'd have preferred if Bioware had made some other choices, but I still think what I've seen could be fun, so I'll still look forward to it. If you really are unable to do that, I'm sorry, because your absolutism means you likely will miss a lot of things that you'd enjoy if you gave 'em a chance. Personally though, that's on you, miss it or not, I could care less.
Its nice looking but such gameplay does not atract me so i hope its truly fully optional and i must never come in touch with it...

The first trailer featuring space combat in Star Wars: The Old Republic has been released by Bioware and LucasArts. The video features a short cut scene followed by a minute or so of in-game space combat footage.

Lol looks just like starfox, I loved starfox, but for a MMORPG this sucks donkey balls.
This looks like it'll be a fun little addition to the game. Something quick and fun to get into when you don't feel like grinding away on the main game.

Way underwhelming but not unexpected.

Actually, it looked pretty good visually.
If they can implement PvP for it and free roaming in a later stage, I see no problem why this couldn't be great fun.
It'll be fun as it is now too, but only as an inbetween mini game.

This announcement just shot SWG's subscriber numbers up by 50%.
I can see where a ground based SW MMO would cause obnoxious SWG pre-CU fanboys to return to something they hate, makes sense.
So .. they have 200 players now?

Reminds me of Rebel Alliance.
I will enjoy this space combat for sure.

Yeah, you are right. The deathstar was destroyed by a cruiser
In the movies, small spaceships are as much part of Star Wars as large spaceships.

It's very pretty, but ultimately comes down to gameplay. Rail shooters suck, I though they died out in the 90s (like they should have).
