On second thought, after seeing the vid again I have to say that the running on 4 kind of looks cool. I was just a little surprised because Ive spent so much time in GW1 and never saw Charr run on 4
To be honest it is impossible to see anything through the horrible quality of the video.
If i had to go on what i could see, which was clouded,it looked pretty bad. When the mobs were clicked they gained an outer hue, something i really hate from cheap games, usually console games have that. Also the over all view of that video looked like a console game, but remeber i did say the qulity of that video was just awful,so maybe it looks a helluva lot better .
If i was to go on that video alone,i would never give GW2 another look, but i know better,so i wait to see some better videos on actual game play.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Thats kind of the cosmetic outline thing that Champions did, but they gave you the option to turn it off. I don't know if it was just the quality of the video but the detail was very tough to see, everything looked very dark, the outlines were helpful in assisting to see what was "good" and what was "bad". If anything, outlines may be something you can turn off in game later -- if they make it into launch.
For the first video I wasn't particularly impressed, but I'm willing to at least wait for better quality ::video:: before making a first impression.

Yeah it looks shitty cause its a cam. He's got a glare or something going on there. Its not an official released vid anyways so theres another indicator that it wasnt gonna be the best quality.
At first glance ..the gameplay looks like wow on steroids...in other words..if they are doing all other things right..this game will wipe competition next year...including wow itself.

From that video alone I did not see anything that would remotely have me to believe that this game will kill WoW or anything else for that matter.
I want to wait for a better video to come out. That is when I can decide what I think about this game.
Overall it's not a bad first video. I agree the gameplay looked a little bland, but i don't think that was the focus of the demonstration. I'm betting they were showing off how smooth the gameplay is. The character had 10 skills, and I think we saw him using maybe 3-4 (including res), so i'm curious what the rest of his toolbar had available for him. I also wish they picked a more exciting part to demo, but overall Id say the game is off to a great start. Can't wait to see the bulk of the content.
Btw, I'm surprised noone's commented on the damage numbers yet. Are those normal for the game? I know the presenter was in god-mode, but look at how much damage he's doing, and how many hits those attacks take to kill the enemy. These seem MUCH higher than the numbers in GW1. Not sure how I feel about that. I hope all aspects of combat scale accordingly, but the smaller scale of GW1 did make it easier to micro manage the skills and their effectiveness.

The combat is not really close to WoW other then you click a button to do a skill, GW combat is a completely different flow, and a very different skill system.
I think a good place to start for the newly interested would be to try playing GW1 first so you can understand the flow of its successor.
Not bad, can agree with the glow thing. Really annoying, hopefully a feature that can be disabled. Very smooth, but it almost felt like I was watching a console game. Did anyone clear up the question on the resurrecting? I heard the announcer say that a player can resurrect any player or npc. Not sure how I feel about that, will have to wait till i hear / see more before I can really give an honest impresson.

I already played guild wars 1 it is still on my hard drive. I was referring to what that guy said about this being a "wow killer".
I was a ranger in guild wars 1 and I will be happy when I see the ranger... I did see the videos they showed, but I want to see actuall ranger gameplay.
I am not too sure of what to think of this video. The animations looked a bit much, not sure how that will handle when you have 10-100 players firing them all off at one time. I guess we gotta wait for beta, or some more information. But I am stoked about the ranger.

They mentioned in some interviews that you'll be able to res players and NPCs, as some "event" lines won't start unless an NPC has been resurrected, or it won't continue if an NPC dies.
I guess its just them trying to make things slightly different. Could be a good idea, could also cause a lot of confusion in the early game. It all depends on how its executed I guess.

As far as I can remember, allies can be revived as long as they're in the 'Downed' status.
As soon as someone's health goes down to zero, he becomes 'Downed', from that moment on he's on a timer. If that timer reaches 0 and nobody has helped him then he's dead and respawns from one of the res points in an area.
If someone is attacked while he's 'Downed' that timer will count down a lot faster.

I know, I meant have him play GW1, I quoted you but that comment was directed more towards him.
I liked the animations for the most part, but it was more combat animation and less reactionary -- meaning NPCs just flopped over, pretty standard MMO-ish, they never really took notice of the player, reacted to what was going on. I know thats part of the DEMO, though I can only hope when players get their hands on it will be a little more active.
I actually liked it felt like a console game. At least when i play a console game I know there is something exciting every corner and if GW2 can give me that.. i'm sold.
Btw. If I'm not mistakes player was in invisible to enemies. that's why at the starts harpies didn;t attack. later on dev disabled it.

Not trying to sound like i know more than i do so this is what i have gotten soo far. When he says a player can res anyone I am assuming it is in the downed state and not when the player or npc is actually dead, As far as I know theres hasn't been any info on how long the downed state actually is so therefore I can't say how long your window is to res said target. unless someone else knows differently.
looked pretty good....my socks werent blown off, but it didnt look bad either. Some minor things annoyed me (yeah the highlight of the enemy was one) but otherwise not bad.

I'm trying so hard to like this, but it's kinda like if I try to stop a mugger that is mugging a lady, I get shot and am laying there. A bum on the street could walk up to me and fix me up instead of a trained medical professional. Not trying to make it a big deal but that kind of takes skill and a natural talent out of the picture. LOL Maybe is just me hehe.
I donno if they are using the same engine as aion did or not, but the combat animations and the feel of the game seem a lot like aion. I already knew this watching some of the videos of various class skills, but this just makes it much more definitive.

Fantasy world full of magic, dragons, asura, sylvari, etc, etc vs real world
See to us it doesn't seem to make sense, but if the GW world with all its lore were the real world, and we were seeing something like what you described with the mugger.... all of us (being in the GW2 world and being able to resurrect others) would say "Wtf, why doesnt that guy that walked by resurrect him."
It may seem stupid or not make sense, but then again does much of anything in fantasy or other genres? You have to forget everything you know of the real world for a short time and immerse yourself in the fantasy world and its rules instead. It simply is, because the writers/developers say it is. They are god in these worlds, and if they say everyone can resurrect, everyone can resurrect. Unfortunately for us, we're stuck in the world where we weren't given such powers.
Edit: Also, lik ethe poster above em said, theya rent actually "dead" theyre just downed. Think of it more like any other sort of debuff, such as a curse, which can only be removed by using X type of heal spell. It has a countdown, and if you dont remove that downed debuff from the person before the timer is up, then they "die"

anyways, wasnt too bad i suppose, i await more vids and info to decide whether its a game i want to play or not.

@Voltlives: Heh, I think it's more comparable with a first aid or someone helping you up when you got punched out than a field surgery.
That's why ANet people also used terms like Downed and 'defeated' instead of dead and 'rally' and 'revive' instead of 'resurrect'.
