Not bad, can agree with the glow thing. Really annoying, hopefully a feature that can be disabled. Very smooth, but it almost felt like I was watching a console game. Did anyone clear up the question on the resurrecting? I heard the announcer say that a player can resurrect any player or npc. Not sure how I feel about that, will have to wait till i hear / see more before I can really give an honest impresson.
As far as I can remember, allies can be revived as long as they're in the 'Downed' status.
As soon as someone's health goes down to zero, he becomes 'Downed', from that moment on he's on a timer. If that timer reaches 0 and nobody has helped him then he's dead and respawns from one of the res points in an area.
If someone is attacked while he's 'Downed' that timer will count down a lot faster.
I'm trying so hard to like this, but it's kinda like if I try to stop a mugger that is mugging a lady, I get shot and am laying there. A bum on the street could walk up to me and fix me up instead of a trained medical professional. Not trying to make it a big deal but that kind of takes skill and a natural talent out of the picture. LOL Maybe is just me hehe.

Hey you can shoot blazing fireballs with your hands, survive shoots/slashs a axe in the face and you wonder why every player has medical skills?

Not using the same engine as Aion which is the CryENGINE1 from Crytek. They are using a rebuilt engine from the first Guild Wars. Scroll down http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2
I just saw the video now. IMO is good enough to be happy about the game, I liked the gameplay. We need some more vids to answer our questions about all this features though. I just would like to see a wider vision of the character cam, sometimes it seems to be too close of the character. But it's not a problem though.
About the Combat, i liked it. I wasn't sure what to expect from it, but it's good.
And I really liked the DES working, the environmental weapons and the Charr 4 feet run ^^
Lol some of you guys are being way to harsh. Take some footage with a crappy camera of you just doing some random quests in any game and see how it turns out.
I think it looked awesome. We were able to see the important things. For one, the animations seemed pretty smooth. The UI looked like I expected, very Guild Wars like. Also I happened to like the targeting system. I thought the red/green highlights looked cool and determining what you have targeted in a crowd will be easy. Overall it looked polished and like it will be a lot of fun to play.
Very little objectivity in this thread. I see nothing, regardless of video quality, that validates this as a quality game in 2010. The graphics are on par with arcade games from years past and the combat seemed very haphazard and lacking of percision. I have no idea how someone claimed that GW1 had a complex combat system, but this certainly suggests more of the same hack-n-slash/done-in-a-week gameplay.

You got all of that from a cam recorded video that had terrible glare and the presenter playing with god mode?
I'm pretty sure they didn't want videos like this to appear because of the terrible pictures by homemade camcorders. I imagine they will have some live streaming videos of the demo that will have a lot better quality picture.

Obvious troll, who has never even tried to be a competitive GvGer. Just like the rest. What the video was showing, fyi, was an event where the npc took over that big tank thing from the videos.
Very nice use of the aoc double tap right imho after hr ressed that guy.
The lame vid looks so good the haters are in full effect.
was everything perfect? NO, but I won't give the haters more fuel.
Cause, obviously if I don't need to run for 30 mins there must be zoning. God forbid people actually accept the fact that every game has zones, and that some judt try and hide it.
troll on haters, don't bother asking us for help when you figure it out.
I understand people being hungry for this video and feeding on it like a pack of piranhas, but don't be so naive.
Just because it is a cam quality doesn't mean you can't identify what is going on and get a feel for it.
The game seems a lot like aion, it is not bad, but it isn't god's gift to mmos as anet is trying to make it out to be.
I saw an "event" which functioned like a run of the mill "quest". And i've seen some fanbois try to argue about how it isn't like a "quest" but the bottom line is that it is just like a lot of quests found in other mmos.
Looks interesting. The animations were pretty smooth. The world itself looked well-done. I like how it zoomed in and out of the map. UI looked good. I do believe I'll watch GW2 development more closely now.

To be honest, I was kinda expecting the gameplay would look more like the trailers. Is this Alpha stage?
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
To be honest, I was kinda expecting the gameplay would look more like the trailers. Is this Alpha stage?
- No, this is not alpha. It is still in internal beta, though. And to be honest, it's better than most at this stage. You can tell they spent a lot of time tweaking it.
I do understand the 'underwhelmed' feeling, but honestly that's to be expected. Why? Because you're watching a crappy video of a person playing in God mod, not even using half his skills (if you watch the video he has 10 skills on his bar. He barely uses 4 including the ressurection skill). As far as I could tell the combat played exactly like the vids. So what was missing?
Cinematography.
The trailer vids are edited to show you the game in a dynamic fasion. As stated above, you can take any game, no matter how good it is, and shoot a crappy video to make it look bad. This situation kind of reminds me of early videos from other games. If there's no regard to pacing, and the player is just kinda waddling around, it's going to look dull. I can't think of a single MMO I liked, even out of the more cinematic ones, that I would actually enjoy watching someone else play. Not one.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying the game looks like the messiah for MMOs. I don't think it does. I think it will do exactly what it's been promising, but probably not a whole lot more. The same thing happened with the first GW game. Lots of people got sold on the 'idea' of the game, but got caught up on the details once it started to be created. It's inevitable. It will have flaws, it won't be for everyone, but I think we can expect a lot of similarities to the first game from this one. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the combat fully realized. Not someone button mashing, but rather a group fight where you can see the dynamics of the skills play off each other.
Will probably be a while before we can see such a thing, but I can wait =/
To be honest, I was kinda expecting the gameplay would look more like the trailers. Is this Alpha stage?
Yes, the game is still in Alpha.
Not to nitpick, but the game is not in Alpha. If it was that would be pretty impressive. What you're looking at is internal Beta material. Alpha is the stage at which they have laid the ground work, but haven't done much tweaking or testing yet. If you saw that, it would look like a laggy horrible mess with placeholders.

The Asuran event/quest was not finished and thus would look like a normal mmo quest. Also the dev who was playing that charr was using a dev hack to make him self invisble. How about actually waiting till we see more gameplay before jumping on GW2 and gouging its eyes out.
GW1 wasn't really my thing, so I am not really looking forward to 2. That said, aside from the video quality what I could see looked very smooth. My one gripe is, I simply hate overblown arcade like spinning attacks arghh.

I know its just a 5 minute snippet but its kind of uninspiring given all the talk the devs have done.
I was thinking the same thing. I dont think ANet shouldve made a manifesto video. And Im not saying that because I think the game is bad. Im actually looking forward to trying it out. But that video could plague them through the rest of the development cycle. It could become an example of what not to do as far as overpromising and underdelivering. And no im not "basing this on 5 min of crappy shaky pre-hyper-alpha game footage". Im basing this on the risks involved with hype and marketing.
MMO's played: Ragnarok Online (For years), WoW (for a few weeks only), Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Eve, Allods, Shattered Galaxy, 9 Dragons, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Star Trek Online (Got someone ELSE to pay for it), Champions Online (Someone else paid), Dofus, Dragonica, LOTRO, DDO and more... A LOT more. I've played good AND bad. The bad didn't last long. :P
It was an event already in progress. Notice how he said that he already had one assistant helping him? It also might just be a collector event (original GW had tons of them, stands to reason there would be some in the sequel as well).
It was some sort of event you can tell because the Asura moves around to the other side of the tent or something like that later if you pay attention to what's happening.. anyway I think it'll be nice when they release the actual gameplay video and explain what's going on ect.
Also this was a short DEMO.. we aren't meant to be "blown away" or "super excited" if you are great.. but that's the intention. This is for people there who are actually PLAYING the game to get a loose idea of some of the core concept as far as events and combat.....

I also expect that ppl will keep mentioning this video when talking about GW2. Cam coverage like this cant do a game justice. The glare on the screen made the world seem way too dark, with just the bright effects of skills and selecting of targets jump out. It looked very odd because of that.

I'm sorry, but it really doesn't. At least not any studio I've worked at, or any that my friends have worked at.
The process goes:
Alpha - (initial architecture of the game)
Internal Beta - (Professional testing of a game to get rid of the most problematic bugs)
External Beta - Public test used for addition bug finding and stress testing, as well as some feature feedback.
- Closed Beta (usually used for bug finding and feature feedback)
- Open Beta (usually used for stress testing / as an incentive to buy the game / free trial nowadays)
Some companies do skip the internal beta phase, but it's rare. Last I checked Anet was not one of those companies.
Edit: Also I have seen some companies make up their own terms for beta phases as marketting hype. However, this isn't really that type of scenario.
I know its just a 5 minute snippet but its kind of uninspiring given all the talk the devs have done.
