Now imagine this.  There is a game with high base XP, and as you play you get tired.  When you level while tired the XP is greatly reduced.  You can get rested by taking breaks or even simply switching jobs.  It rewards more casual players, but also lets hardcore reap the benefits of rested by switching jobs.  It is practically the same thing with higher base XP and fatigue instead of lower base XP and rested.  You guys are ridiculous with your rage and assumptions and obviously 90% of you emo whiners haven't even experienced the system, don't understand it, and yet rage on forums and post about how you decided not to play the game because of this.  Ridiculous.

Well, as in much else the Devil is in the details. It remains to be seen if this is simply a different take on WoW's rested EXP system, or something more sinister.  It depends on how low the EXP goes. It also depends on how long it takes to get it back up.  But this could have been handled in a MUCH better fashion PR wise.  But then they've never had much of a handle on pre emptively dealing with player perceptions.

It is just a different take on the rested xp system.  People are acting insane...  Like 3 year olds during a fire drill.

Thanks for posting.  Pretty much exactly what I expected, it's going to be modified, was introduced in it's current form to slow down the hard core beta testers, and in the long run is meant to be a sort of balancing agent between casuals and hard core players.

Face it, MMO's are a business.  The hard core players that are on 10 hours a day, 6 days a week consume much more bandwidth and content than casuals.  From a business standpoint, which would you cater to more in an MMO:

    • The small group of harcore players that are constantly screaming for more endgame content and are always online consuming computer resources?

    • The large group of casuals that are on a couple times a week for 4 hours that take a year to max out?

Casuals are just a better investment to make in an MMO.  They're paying the same price for much less consumption of resources.  I'm sure Square will lose hard core players over this, but the fact of the matter is that the hard core "40 hours a week playtime" group is much smaller than people think, especially nowadays.  Final Fantasy has never been a game for 13 year olds, that's what WoW is for.  Given that, the demographic this is aimed at just doesn't have the time.  We've got school, work, kids, etc.  Wanna blame anyone, blame us old people.  We just don't have the time, but one thing we do have is plenty of money to spend on MMO subscriptions.

So like I said, I can understand the anger over game mechanics actively working against the hard core players, and I sympathize, but as before, the choice is still yours to make.  Quit or stay...

And remember, at least they didn't go the micro-transaction route and turn this into Maple Story.  Everything I'm reading about MMO's in general seems to point to this inevitable conclusion...

Read it and not getting over it. It's a crap system and it's total BS to penalize certain groups to cater to others. As the system stands I would not be able to play the way I would want to play and I am sure I am not the only one. I won't be playing until they realize this is a horrible idea.

Edit: Re-read it, you lose EXP across all jobs at that point?

"However, experience points are not specific to any class and therefore the decrease in experience points is not affected by changing classes."

So basically there is a penalty for playing over 8 hours and no point to playing over 15 hours, per week?

Well, I'm glad you are able to make so much time available to game in your life with family and work, but you really are the exception, not the rule.  I'm lucky if I can even play 10, and that's just with a 50 hour work week, volunteer work, and taking care of my younger brother...

I'm just wish MMOs hadn't become popular. I wish they'd stayed exclusive to the basement trolls for the "jocks" to make fun of us and the media to think we were diseased.

I'm running out of hobbies. Video games have taken a turn that I have no interest in, I can't afford to do the work on the car that I want, blech...I'm just getting bored and cranky.
