WoW had the shortest life span on my hard drive for any game I ever purchased. It was just boring. many many others though vie for the worst that I ever beta tested and never bought or did the free trial of but if I had to name one it would be Face of Mankind.

Funny. You used to post saying you played WoW quite often. I guess you must keep games on your hard drive for weeks even when you don't like them for it to have the shortest life span on your HD.
My personal worst MMO ever has to be EQ2. It definitely ranks in the top 3 dullest games in history.
Mine would have to be Horizons...beta tested and made it through 2 months of launch. If you were there, you'd remember the lag, client crashes, missing content, and just about every promise made by Bowman broken...Not to mention the Rite of Passage for Adult Dragons not being in game after the third month of release (minimum amount of time required to move from juvie to adult dragon and gain flight) which pretty much ruined advancement for dragon characters...I could go on, but I know I'm gonna hear "Please come back and try Horizons...it's a completely different game now"...don't waste your time. Anything that has David Bowman at the head I will not pay a cent for or waste my bandwidth on.

Yopu sem to be as confused as ever Fire. Nope my brother was the WoW fan. I messed with WoW some on his account during beta but never lvled past 10 on a coupel of different characters. My big mistake was thinking the game could sustain my interest for a long period of time thats why I wasted $50 on it. While it was fun to mess with off and on but I never considered how dull it would be to try and play it 2 or 3 hours a day every day. It was about as challanging as connect the dots.

Yeah now you mention it I remember you posting on a few occasions referring to the account you used to play with your brother. If you levelled two characters to level 10 it's safe to assume you didn't play it for more than two, maybe three nights maximum.
Funny how I didn't remember that but I still remember you posting to tell everyone how you put together an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of your quests in EQ2 because the quest tracking features were so lacking. That was a classic!
EQ could only keep me interested for about 8 hours. COH for about 2 days. WoW for about 3 weeks. I didn't like AC2 but, not because it was a bad game but, because I only saw 2 people after playing for an hour.
nothing can top this mmorpg Shirwood it is the worst game ever you run around and hold ctrl to attack people wtf it is definitely the worst if you don't beleive me try it out your self its so bad you have to try it just to see how bad it really can be.....Way to go Shirwood
I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people

Additionally, I'm not even subscribed to Eve right now because there are still a handful of features (or lack of specific features) that ruin the game for me. I know this makes me sound like a cynic and that I'll never be happy with anything, but consider this: The MMORPG industry has only actually TRIED a few techniques. You've got: >> The fantasy level grind (EverQuest and 90% of the other games on the list) >> The indecipherable Asian "anime for slow children" level grind (Ragnarok, etc) >> The sci-fi level grind (Anarchy Online, Star Wars Galaxies, etc) >> The sci-fi "player is a spaceship" economic grind (Eve Online, Jumpgate, Earth and Beyond, etc) >> The "other" category, which you'd think would be rather broad, but right now basically consists only of World War 2, pirates, real life, and superheroes. There are some other goofy ones, like Toontown, but does anyone really play those? Let's stay serious with this topic, shall we? These are all really just themes or genres. When you actually crack open the shiney graphics and flashy advertising, most MMORPGs run identically. Mix one part EverQuest class/level system with one part Diablo 2 static skill tree progression. Now throw in a dash of orginal ideas, most of which are ill-prepared, short-sighted, and usually downright moronic, then advertise those like they're the core concept of your game. So when I say that I am disappointed with just about EVERY MMORPG that's ever existed, don't think of me as insufferably picky or snobby, because the MMORPG industry really hasn't offered me many variations. Sorry, but to me, EQ and EQ2 are exactly the same game for purposes of originallity, intelligent systems, and conceivable longevity. In my mind, there is no differnece between World of Warcraft and EverQuest 2, the same goes for Lineage 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron's Call, etc. To me, they're all identical.
__________ When you see a new MMORPG, honestly think to yourself: "Is this game designed to EARN my $15 per month subscription with content, originality, and long-term value, or is it just designed to SCAM me out of $50 when I buy the box at the store with flashy advertising, biased reviews, and empty promises?"
This really sums up my feelings on the topic extraordinally well. Excellently said
None of the MMORPGS have done anything new or different than EQ, despit claiming to be 2nd or even 3rd gen now. This whole level treadmill they all embrace is simply for one reason, its the carrot on the end of the stick that keeps drawing the money out of you to keep the subscription alive. One of these days, a developer will wake up and say "Hey, how about we make the content the complusive carrot rather than the leveling treadmill?" and that's when you got a 2nd gen MMOG.
Even peace may be purchased at too high a price, and the only time you are completely safe is when you lie in the grave.

Still not quite right there Fire, I lvled 2 chars up to around 10 or so on my brothers beta, then I bought the game and played a mage up to 26 if I remember correctly. Maybe 25 or 27 anyway somewhere in that area. But yeah I am the one who did the spreadsheet to track all of the quests in EQII. You know what was funny though I preferred my spreadsheeet over the ? and ! of WoW quests. Wierd but that was one of the things that just drove me nuts in WoW was how they did that. The game was just so linier it was like playing Half Life II and just going from one mission to the next on a invisible track.
Actually I am starting to feel like that other posters who listed every MMORPG as his worst game. When you boil it right down they are all pretty much the same, just different ways of wasting time that could be better spent elsewhere.
Hm. This is interesting, not sure how to categorise these. So, here goes:
1) WoW. Don't get me wrong, it was fun and interesting when I first started playing. But this game gets the "most wasted potential" award, and the "fastest to boring" award... Loved it initially, levelled too many characters to max far too fast, no endgame, dishonorable "honor system", juvenile community, horrid customer service. Battlegrounds wait makes me think "Hm, why am I here, when I could be in Realm-versus-Realm in DAoC, which did the same thing but better... and several YEARS earlier". Hopefully they'll "grow" this game into the potential that it has. (fingers crossed) Don't really think they will, given the attitude from Blizzard and the whole "dumbed-down/make-it-as-easy-as-possible" design of the game (to bring in the max # of people, which they achieved). But one can hope.
2) AC2. Actually, don't take these as being in numerical order, per se, because this game was so utterly horrid that it is without a doubt the worst of the worst. Worst sequel EVER. The game that shouldn't have been made. Here's hoping that an AC3 will bring the world of Asheron's Call (which, in the first game, is a serious contender for best MMORPG ever) into the modern day graphics-wise without losing the core appeal.
3) Horizons. Oof. Interesting sounding on the box. Pity the game didn't match the box.
Should do a "best MMORPG ever played" list sometime. Been done before, I know, but still... it's a conversation-starter.
Originally posted by lotharr What is the worst mmorpg you ever played? You can tell why it is so worst ore story about it or something, lol Or then simply you can just say what were the worst.
Mine is City of Heroes Because i got bored of it in 2 weeks
All of them except UO.
It seems people have forgetton what a MMORPG is supposed to be. Now we're flooded with MOSbSSPGs and MMOFPS. (side by side single player games and first person shooters respectively....)
SB which is supposed to be an almost pure pvp game is little more the a template war... And nothing coming out looks even remotely promising save Trials of Ascension. If I had to play 1 game for the next 5 years.... it would be ToA. Shadowpool seems to know what their doing. (Can you imagine?)

I completely agree with Rentantilus - it is truly impossible to pick the worst because they ALL (or virtually so) are of the same basic design and gameplay. UO (to my knowledge) was the only one of what I call true MMORPGs (many like GW aren't really an MMORPG but rather a MMOG) that came close in many concepts. After all, UO was the only one (again to my knowledge) that did not force a player to KILL to garner advancement in capabilities. UO was the only one to NOT force me into a cookie cutter mode of class and skills. I will stop there.
The only MMORPG I've ever played and didnt have fun at all while playing was SWG. It is such a horrible horrible game i cant even begin to describe it. Combat was so repetetive, you did the same thing over and over and over and over. No good quest system. It was so boring, I quit after a week or two.

I know this will not be a popular answer but WOW has to be the worst I have ever played.
I played on a non PVP server hoping to avoid the immature players, but they are everywhere.
So it was the community that that made it the worst I have ever played.
I have played some online games that were buggy, laggy, etc but the community made up for it.
