I got BANNED from SWTOR beta....

So long story short in the beta, can't login, get an email saying I got banned for "discussing illegal activity." I am so frustrated. Are you serious Bioware? They aren't responding, and the admins keep taking down my threads on the SWTOR forums. Can you believe this? I am innocent and  the terms of service and game tester agreement don't say anything about "discussing illegal activity."

Wanted to come here and post to let everyone know about the nonsense going on at Bioware, and the Orwellian "thought police." company policy.

This is all compounded by the fact that the haven't responsded to any of my emails or presented any evidence against me.

It's not a court of law.  They don't need to present evidence against you.  Usually if a game company bans someone, they won't unban them.

Well... without any sort of information about what was said or in what context, do you honestly expect to find any sympathy here? For all we know, you did something entirely deserving of the punishment.

People often claim their own innocence after they are caught regardless of whether there is any truth to it.

    Sweet!

Okay I understand, yes I am innocent but I don't expect you to believe me I guess. So let's look at it another way. Let's say that I discussed some illegal behaviors(which I didnt). So lets say that is true at the same time, The terms of service and game testing agreements dont say anything about discussing illegal activity...

I've gone over both and failed to see anything that would even be similiar to discussing illegal acitivity.

    Here's the email I got

We are contacting to notify you that your account for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ has been indefinitely suspended.

Reason for Suspension: Game Testing Agreement Violation

This account has been indefinitely suspended for discussing illegal activities which is in direct violation of the Star Wars: The Old Republic Terms of Service and Game Testing Agreement. Details of both are located at:

If you disagree with the outcome of our investigation, please reply with all relevant information.

I have replied to that email and contested the ban, but they have yet to respond and it's been around 4 hours. I really  can't believe this.

I mean the term discussing illegal actiivty is so broad.

For example if you said "Oh I just got home, I was speeding like a demon the freeway." Is that going to warrant a ban? Speeding is and illegal activity.

    This is so frustrating.

sounds like you were flaunting some bug or exploit...

    Also... Cest la vie

I guess you have to sit and wait for the release like every one else.

This have been a good conversation

  • PyrostasisPyrostasis Member UncommonPosts: 2,293

they dont have to present evidence. You did or said something they didnt like, and now your gone.

Most likely it was something to do with a NDA violation, or discussing a NDA violation. Did you possibly talk about a website that breaks the NDA?

  • terroniterroni Member Posts: 935

Heh, it's been around 4 hours. My god..how dare they!

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Are you serious? Do you think I would consider buying this game after something like this? If they don't make this right, I wont just not buy this game I wont buy any Bioware game ever again.

THE POINT IS. that the game tester agreement and the terms of service do not mention anything about discussing illegal activity which makes it even more frustrating.

    Does that make sense?

Your innocent of something, and that something isn't even against the law so you are 2x as frustrated.

A website? No I really didn't say anything in the game, I mean where would i even discuss something? In the ingame chat? Are they sitting there reading everything everyone says in the chat?

i cant remeber if it was bioware or mmorpg.com, but in either case isn't saying your a beta tester, breaking the NDA which it illegal??  so it seems your doing it again here

Good, one less whiny bitch in the game when it comes out officially.

so you were just there for a free ride then.

Then again we live in a free market.. you can do as you please with your money. But i guess if you feel that 4*60 minutes is a long time to wait you have other issues.

Edit: Yes they actually might have... or rather have a keyword filter most likely... or you did and was reported by some other player.

Ehh you only get access to the beta for 2 days, so 4 hours of time that I have to play is a big deal when it's only 2 days.

I'm sure if that was the case they would make that a point to tell everyone who got access to not tell anyone. This isn't a beta, they are making it a point not to call it a beta.

What do you mean free ride?

I'm not trying to be a punk, but if you were wronged by a company/person would you do buisness with them again?

Hey, if you only get access for two days, that must mean more keeps have to keys going out to replace those that their 48 hours expires.  ROCK ON!

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

lol... If you did infact get kicked from the closed beta,  which I find rather hard to believe, I am sure you did something that warrants it. Anyhow, it's beta and you signed an agreement that pretty much says they can do what they want.

If you were paying for the game , than you may have  a case , but when it is testing a game they can accept or deny anyone they deem fit or unfit to test their game.

I can assure you  I did nothing wrong, wasn't exploiting, or anything like that,  the fact that bioware claims I did something that violates there game testing agreement is one thing. It's something else when what they say isn't mentioned in their game tester agreement.

Well they seem to think that you wronged them first... And i care pickles personally but you are comming of a bit headstrong and since we don't know the story you.. will... not... get... any... real... sympathy here...

As i said you can do as you please and i don't care. But you apparently wanted to discuss the fact that you got kicked.. why otherwise post it on a public forum.

This have been a good conversation

Okay some of you have no sympathy. Just wait till it happens to you for no reason and then see how angry you are. I called Bioware, they told me to post it on the SWTOR forums, I do that and all my threads/posts are deleted within minutes.

I send emails that aren't answered, yeah this is how you treat people..

Someone please go and find the spot in the game tester agreement that says anything about discussing illegal activity..

I tried and didn't find anything even remotely similar.

Did you discuss with anyone else any information about the testing or gameplay?

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you are talking about being banned from the Closed Beta here on MMORPG.com, which last time I checked once you sign a closed beta you are not to mention your closed beta inclusion to anyone, then I gotta believe you have no issue talking about illegal activities.   I've been in closed betas before that if you say talk about exploits ingame chat, they will ban you.  They want you reporting exploits view your reports, not discussing for everyone in the beta to see.
