I was in closed and played open beta. I was disappointed in the game and will not be playing it. This is obviously an opinion and I was a huge fan boy of it at one point. It just lacks in a lot of areas and seems to not have any of the flare FF XI had. Im just curious to see who agrees and disagrees.

I felt that the Open Beta was a good representation of what the game will be, with some improvments it should be quite a good game.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Yep, looking forward to the launch, too poor to buy four collectors for the early start (me and my three kids) so I will be waiting for the regular launch.

Surprising for me i had almost no interest in this game. Then i picked up the open beta key and played it some. I'm rather enjoying it now. If my finances allow i'll pick up a copy of this game.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Yes, got my two CE already ordered and waiting, one from Amazon and the second from Best Buy. Open Beta showed me where to get started and how to get rolling. Now all I need is to browse the Official forums for a couple good linkshell opportunities.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
The first day was a little rough, hadn't played FFXI in years. The UI felt clunky and the combat seemed slow with only 1 skill at Level 1.
However, after I got used to playnig with a controller and got a few skills, the combat and controls felt very tight and not clunky or slow at all.
A couple more tries at beta and I was hooked and my GF was as well.
We will be on the Cornelia server and have our CEs at Best Buy on the 22nd.
GAME TIL YOU DIE!!!!
I had little interest prior to beta, as I really didnt like the original FFMMO.
I did however end up with a beta key and figured what the hell I'd give it a shot. My initial thoughts were pretty horrible.
The newbie experience is horrible
There is little early guidance
Several key items are not explained in game and require 3rd party / out of game resources
The ui is clearly designed for console / control play in mind and hasn't been optimized for Pc
Crafter classes are given the same mission as combat classes...which ends in misery.
I hated it. HATED it. Thought it was horrible game design etc.
I posted a review on my website and was flogged mercilessly by fanbois. I ended up getting bored a few days later and decided to give it a bit more of a shot. I setup my laptop next to me and pretty much googled constantly. Things like...
Guildleve system
How to change classes
Why can I only throw a rock...
Crafting basics
How to play after dying...
After a few hours the game definitely grew on me and I now plan on picking it up. However, I think the majority of mmo players as a whole are going to be turned off by the above. If players manage to make it through the newbie experience then a good portion will end up staying, but theres going to be a hell of a lot of attrition in just the first 45 minutes of gameplay.
I hope SE revamps the early gameplay, either that or includes a small encyclopedia of info in the game manual. Hell if it wasnt for a group mate telling me to turn on AOE I would have had no idea that there was a toggle. I had been wondering why my spells marked AOE werent... but figured it was a beta typo or something.
This was pretty much the same experience I had. I had no plans of even really playing the game, but a friend wanted me to play in the beta with him so I did. After a few minutes of getting used to idea, I spent the next few days thoroughly enjoying the game, and I pre-ordered the CE yesterday. The game has flaws, certainly (your skill and item loadout per class should be remembered, anima needs to regenerate slightly faster, etc), but I found it to be a very enjoyable game nonetheless.
Either everyone who "hates" this game has left these forums, or maybe they were just the vocal minority.
It seems to me that the death of FFXIV before its release has been greatly exagerated..... As of now, 72% saying they're still going to play. Seems pretty good to me.
(Ordered my CE first day it was available and never looked back, Wednesday can't come soon enough).
I'm gonna play for sure. Whether or not I play for long is up to how well the game runs after launch for me. Wasn't the greatest with a lot of crashes in OB, but we'll see.
See? It's as we've been telling everyone: all it takes is a little more effort.
It likely will turn off a lot of people by generating a bad first impression. However (and this is a sentiment inherited from the previous game, Final Fantasy XI) if the player in question is that impatient, chances are the rest of the game isn't for them either.
Other games may give you a guided tour. This one gives you a trial by fire.
I'll end up picking it up when the PS3 version releases. My PC can't run the game. Alpha tester - open beta and didn't get to even do anything it ran so bad on my PC..
Around 10k sub population will consist of 40 % asians, 10% ff fanyboys and 50% gold farmers within 2 months.
Mass exodus is inevitable. Say OMG no way!!!! as much as you like, but how many times has it happened allready? 6-7 games hyped and defended by fanboys only taking a short time for them to change their tune.
Save your money.
How many times has it happened? Well it still hasn't happened yet for Square Enix's last MMO and this MMO's 8 year old predecessor FFXI.
Lovely troll though, I'm sure you will scare away lots of people with the threat of Asians!!!!!

In your dreams.
Final Fantasy XI, the game it was based on, pulled a higher subscription count than all of its pre-World of Warcraft competition (well, except for Lineage), dethroning the previous reigning champion, EverQuest. Unlike most of its competition, those subscription numbers stayed steady after World of Warcraft's release.
VGChartz: already over 180,000 pre-orders for Final Fantasy XIV.
FFXIV Zam poll suggesting the overwhleming majority of people who tried the beta actually continue to buy the game.
Unlike Final Fantasy XI, boasting a China release (on seperate servers). Incidentally, over half of World of Warcraft's subscribers are Chinese (although no doubt the government ban, though it was evenutally lifted, put a dent in that).
Worse case scenario, 200k, bare minimum. One million? Really unprecedented considering only a small sliver of MMORPGs ever crest a million... but definately within the realm of possibility.
And tell me, what hard-hitting facts do you have to support your prediction? "I played the game, and the GUI was hard?" "I needed to be told what to do, and it didn't?" Or maybe you'd like to link up some previews from unqualified ranters throughout the Internet?
Was a little woried during beta, but SE's list of things to fix before / shortly after release was basicly everything I was hoping they would look at.
That said these are some of the slowest 5 days of my life.
So there will be 1 gold farmer for each player O.o somehow doubt that the gold selling business would make a good profit that way....
The 40% Asians u mentioned r they Fanboys as well or is that reserved for only none Asians....
Your statement is funny because unintelligent and offending because its racist (unintelligent and racist often comes in one package) judging by your statement i would guess now u dont plan to play so 1 less of...well your kind in the game....hmmm,,,,,hmmm
All considered sounds like a huge win for us who plan to play
hmm i'm not asian, i'm not a FF fanboy, and i'm not a gold farmer so. uh where do i fit in on that pie chart, the 0 pct that you didn't include? don't i at least get .00001 percent. Alot of assumption on gold farmers to. Buying the box and subscription and giving card info for each person tends to detour alot of gold farmers. Second you completely excluded japan where i believe this game is much more popular at least for now. So many flaws in this post it's not even funny.
say OMG this game will fail as much as you like, won't change the fact that people will buy and play this game and will like it, much to your dislike. I would like to see where you are getting these numbers from if you would be so kind as to show them then we can have a discussion, otherwise i'll be picking my copy up at the store and playing it. Have fun in whatever you do though.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

This ^^^ really wanting to play . just not sure if i should go pickup a gamepad or controller..and if so which one.
IDK but for myself and my wife and one of our friends the game really got to us. I hope it lives up the the ideal!
Planning to wait half a year, then play.
Quick question on these two points...
At VGCharts, it in no way specifies that it's "for the Collector's Edition". Just because the release date says "9/22/10" doesn't necessarily mean that it's all CE. If it is CE alone, where is the "normal" edition's pre-order numbers? Just looking for evidence of that particular part of your claim given that the site itself doesn't specify, and are likely just listing the game's opening date and combining the numbers. Also, looking at the chart itself, it says release is in 3 weeks, which would mean within 21 days from that update on the 11th which - oddly enough - conflicts with the FFXIV page there which lists release as 9/22.
Not to knock the credit of Zam's poll, but people who don't intend to play the game anymore probably aren't busy registering for an FFXIV-specific website just to vote. The ones who've voted for "no" are likely the very small percentage left still watching it to some degree who are too unsure to say "Disappointed, but I'll still try the game." Speaking of, I'd fall gladly into the "Disappointed, but I'll still try the game." category myself, but that's an issue of when I'll play, and I don't plan to sign up on that site just to answer a poll, especially given who knows what will happen between now and then and whether I'd be willing to bet the box cost on possible enjoyment or not.

I guess I'll somehow have to say thank you Square for letting me play the open beta, because otherwise I wouldn't have cancled my preorder. Whats wrong with this game has been already discussed in many different forums, so I'll just say that everything, but the graphics, is a freaking nightmare. Hell, not even the Anarchy Online beta in 2002 was so bad.
This game still needs a lot of work and considering the fact that TERA, Blade and Soul and of course Guild Wars 2 will be released in the next 6 months, I won't even bother to try FF14.
Having to spend lots of cash to get frustrated and wait for dev team to solve it with time....no thanks! Was in beta, left the beta - and that's the end of story. This game should be made only for consoles....the PC version is way to unfriendly. Graphics are nice, but not worth the trouble you get by trying it to work without serious performance issue (not willing to buy a monster PC or play with a joystick when I have a mouse and a G11 keyboard). If I will ever return to this game, which I doubt it, it will be after an year of constant improvements and a real PC version - not a console version adapted for PC. Anyway, I'm waiting for the GW2...that seems to be a game with much less disappointment.
