Why do you say the hype is low? Seems pretty high to me.
TOR and GW2 are the most talked about upcoming games on this site. TOR is ranked number 3 in terms of hype, but it seems to be number one or two based off the number of post.
I think people are fearing that the game will be a bit too close in style to WoW and too far away from early SWG. This site has a lot of forum goers that dislike WoW.
Because they are taking a huge star wars universe and making it totally linear. I think people that want star wars like the idea of a totally open universe with a large scale pvp universe. It appears that this game is primarily story driven and pvp is def limited to battleground or zoned type of pvp. This game will probably be a great RPG, but not a great mmo in my opinion.

...because it is weighted down by those like this poster who post misinformation (like the game is totally linear) and ignore all of the convention feedback and information released by Bioware (as limited as it is) that completely contradicts this moronic statement.
Also, a lot of these posters have like 5 posts such as this guy, meaning that he either was deleted for posting previous nonsense or has multiple accounts and is scarred from a delusional expectations of another relatively unsuccessful game called Star Wars Galaxies. Since they can't play that anymore and this game doesn't duplicate that failed experience, they go out of their way to post 1 in the hype.
I'm actually surprised how high the hype is considering all the of the ridiculous posts from ex-SWG fans there are here in these forums including one of the writers of this site.

Sounds more like you want Battlefront or Battlefront 2. If the rumors are true about Battlefront 3, I'll be sure to join you!
I am cautiously optimistic about swtor, gw2, and rift.
In my order it is:
1. Rift
2. GW2
3. swtor
I am not a huge story/quest person, I do not play kotor or console games, so I will not rule anything out. I hope its fun, I wont hate on it, but I have worries, just as I do with Rift and GW2.
I worry that I will be too spoon fed with a story line, and I won't have enough to do when the story is over, or enough choices, while the story is going on....If I am wrong, great...I would love to be wrong.
I worry GW2 is promising too much, hope I am wrong, and they deliver 100%.
I worry Rift will not have meaningful open world RvR/PvP on a PvP server (which is the type I want to play on).
We will see, but of the 3, I have less hype and more aprehension for swtor...

That is my worry. I want an MMO, while I am sure it will be fun for the masses if its more RPG, it won't be my thing.
The hype is low on this site, but look at all of the hype on other games too, only one game stands out and theres a reason for it, and its not because that game is more widely received or popular, its because the Hype Meter on this site makes it abnormally easy to fudge the numbers.
Bioware are strangely reluctant to discuss anything within SWTOR that might be considered your staple MMO fare. The only things they want to actually talk about are all the single-player RPG elements and this is giving a very strong vibe that the MMO side of the game may be lacking. I know they've said they have an open world and things like that but until they actually give us anything about that I expect most people are going to remain skeptical.
I'll throw in the fact that the animations are currently abysmal as well though... that was a major turn-off for me as soon as I saw the combat demos.

totally agree. OP, if you go to this link--> http://www.swtor.com/community/index.php you will see that the SWTOR forums are extremely active, even with so little info released. That activity is a very very good sign of things to come (in my opinion).

I agree with your statement about the animations, not that they are abysmal, but need improvement. However, because we are in a lull statement with MMOs right now, I jumped into a few older successful MMOs and I was surprised that there weren't any animations that I liked, then all of a sudden these didn't look quite as bad. I will say that the animations continue to improve (they improved with a few weeks span at the two conventions around August). BIoware is aware of the feedback, responded that they have an entire team working to continue to improve them, and I have to have a little faith that they will get closer to what we expect.

I think it is more 2 things.
First of all have Bioware been relatively quit the last 6 months while ANET and Trion have show us a lot of new cool stuff.
Secondly most people here are huge MMO fans with many games behind us. WE want a new and different game. TOR is more traditional than the games over it, that can be a good or bad thing depending on how the average MMO players who tried Wow and maybe another game feels about it.
Also the true aim of the game is Biowares fans. If they get them into it they will have a few million players no matter what the MMO community think about the game.
So I don't think it is manipulation that makes TORs score relatively low. Also ANET have many fans here (including me) who played the first GW, they are naturally exited for that game.
Low because people are basing their opinions on old builds of the game and are making their speculations out as if they are facts. Also note that TOR has almost twice as many votes as GW2 so it is my guess many of these are lower or 0 ratings by these skeptics. TOR is the the most popular even if it doesn't have the highest hpye.
The ratings here are meaningless, hold no weight, are extremely easy to manipulate, and have pretty much always been little more than something for people to complain about lol :P
I dont knwo why being like wow is bad. Wow has 12 mil subs now. No offense but sandbox games and go anywher espace games like eve maybe hit 500 k .
As for wows hype it depends what u read. Sw tor site has lots of hype, zam and massively writers raved about the demos they have run at comic con, e3 and other game conventions like that.
sw tor may rub some the wrong way as its not another sw galaxies which by the way still exists. its gonna be like biowares console rpgs a bit. IN that they will have open worlds in planets and u will have group play as we have seen demos of it. I know thats a complaint about sw tor that it wont have any open world or group play in it.
The thing is one of the reasons to play sw tor is the story and the choices not to mention player companions that actually fight for u. None of this is really in wow. U got story but how many people really read the quest text?
In sw tor the text will matter some cause your choices to it will influence how others including your companions react to u. I cant wait. for this game my hype is off the charts. Problem here is that the qqers are all guild war fans.
Whoe belive the dynamic quest thing guild wars talks abou tis some way revoloutinary when its just anothe rway of doing a quest. Instead of doing it a a hub u travel around see a twon on fire pick up quest help put out fire. Still a pu tout fire quest.
Rifts i think will do this much better. There quests will happen when a rift opens u will get special gear and other things like souls baded on what rifts u beat. They are random and frankly i think gw 2 is gonna get its but kicked by rifts. Sw tor is doing it the right way. Seems they are taking a page otu fo blizzards book.
Only revealing stuff they know will in most cases make it into game and not revealing to much. I think bioware will succeed where galaxies never did.

Not entirely, look at the game list and go through the hype and whats being said about these games. Look at the amount of users that voted between the top games and the not-so-top games. If you've watched the history of the Hype Meter, you'd see how abnormal the hype hits. Less then 6 months ago TSW passed GW2 in terms of hype rating. Once it was brought up on the forum, you watched a steep decrease in TSW and a bolster of hype for GW2 (theres a thread about it). Its also interesting that each increase of the GW2 hype rating brings STEEP decreases for all other games.
Considering the amount of votes SWTOR has in comparison to the other games, either there are many more people interested in bringing down the SWTOR hype then there are to even vote on half of the games listed, or there is some falsification in the ratings here.
The ratings here are meaningless, hold no weight, are extremely easy to manipulate, and have pretty much always been little more than something for people to complain about lol :P
until open beta hits.
Watch a games rating when it goes into open beta. Its very telling of the experience of the thousands of people who are getting to play it. Sometimes the hype rating drops like a rock - and thats not by chance.
*I guess I should edit and point out I am speaking generaly, not about swtor specificaly; before some fanboy has a fit.
I saw this post from endersshadow in the Rift Forums:
Thanks for having me. I promise not to turn rabid and come back here and bash RIFT.
I will however bash SWTOR, every, chance, I GET!
This is why. You have people like this.
For the people who don't know the swtor forums are full of people like that, GW2/rift, ex- SWG vets and other games fans going over SWTOR forum just saying s*** about the game, without having facts... or complaining about every little detail in screenshots, videos or even choosing words from devs interviews just so that, they can bash SWTOR.

When i heard abou the game and that Bioware was making it my hype was huge.
Then they released information about what they were doing and i just lost all interest.
Just too much of the same.
