The use of terms like 'trolling' is acceptable since it is a description of an action, calling someone a 'troll' is not.
This is hilarious and makes you a complete hypocrite.
"Trolling" would infer the person who posted the comment the adjective refers to was "a troll". The term "troll" has come about in the last couple years because someone wanted to insult a person for whatever comment they posted that was innappropriate (whether legitimately or not).
You can just as easily say that guy was "being mean" or "being out of line" or "intentionally causing grief" but no, instead it is accepted on these forums to use "trolling" which in itself even outside of context is a personal insult. xD
To anyone that is rational the people spewing the word "troll" and "trolling" all over the place are the real "trolls" because they are using a term that is inherently offensive and it sets the pace and tone of the following comments.
+1
Also Kaocan, comparing a word like 'fanboi' or 'troll' to an extremely offensive racial slur is beyond insensitive and childish. Whether it proves your point or not is irrelevant; you could have easily used another example.
Seriously, you dont have to like my reference thats fine. An insult is an insult is an insult. The intent behind the usage of any word is the issue. And trust me, I see more hate and insults on these forums than I do in real life every single day. There is no rationalization which justifies intentional trying to insult another. You may disagree with them, and wish to convey your point, but do you really think you have the right to insult whenever you want and however you want? Do you think your that much above others that you have that right?
And as I stated before, this isnt an up for debat issue is it? If you insult someone on these forums, its under the code of conduct rules as a violation. It isnt up for me or you to decide what is or isnt acceptable, its up to the moderators. And that is exactly where this topic end. If you feel I'm out of line for requesting people stop spitting insults, then by all means report me and let them decide.
Obviously I understand your point (it's common sense to most) but to bring up an example of one of the more hurtful terms in the English language to prove that point is just tactless, especially when there are many others you could have used.

Follow those. Dont like those, oh well. Dont care what you think things mean, isn't up to you. Calling someone names with the intent of being an insult is against the rules of conduct of this site. Not up to you to interpret. You call someone a fanboi and they report you, the moderator decides if your in violation. I'm not going to argue the point with you on this one. I made it clear and simple I dont think its appropriate to use terms in a deragatory manner to refer to other. I see it used against me I'm just gonna report it from now on. Its that simple.
Noone said the fact that the term "troll" is used in the TOS on this site is a particularly intelligent move on the part of whomever wrote it. In fact I'll say that it is the opposite of intelligent. Even points to a degree of unprofessionalism for promoting it's use.
As far as spamming the "report" button goes that's your choice to do that. People should just start calling "fanbois" by what they really are.. "trolls". Honest, well meaning folks in these forums discuss a games shortcommings and they are insulted and personally attacked/baited for every word. That is excessive and unnecessary but the mechanisms aren't in place for this kind of behavior to be dealt with. Yet.

I don't know. If I'm sitting here from the perspective of being a monolithic game company and the fax comes in that somebody dumped 1% of my stock because they didn't like my game, I'm going to be like:
"Huh, that guy who owns my stock has decided he doesn't like my games anymore. Should I care if one guy who happens to own some of my publically traded stock really, really didn't like my latest game?"
He had a lot more than own shares, and that's a lot of money, sure, but aside from that it's still like the cat lady on Futurama.
No company would react like that trust me, a 1% dip in stock caused by one disgruntled client is a big deal, even when easily recoverable through the course of the trading day.

In another thread suggesting some kind of Community Manager to help smooth over relations between Square Enix and its fans, I asked who'd be hardcore enough to deal with disgruntled FF fans.
See what I mean? When they ragequit, they take $26 million with them.
Edit: And for those who think this will affect Square in any way: LOL.
