Yeah, I see on Metacritic the score is 5.0 from the critics and 3.9 from the users, I don't think I've ever seen a game vilified so much before. Guess its due to the high expectations everyone had going in.

Wow a 30 score. That is crazy low. Would like to hear some FF fans points of view on this.
The same POV as always. The reviewer didn't play long enough. He was expecting WoW. He isn't smart enough to play FFXIV. You know, the usual fanboy BS.
30 score from PC:Gamer. Wow. I can't even recall another AAA title getting that low of a score. Usually only taken by those poor tie-in-movie videogames. Just to put this into perspective, APB received a 55 from the magazine. I wonder if FFXIV will beat APB in the shutdown race.
Those that agree with the reviewer will see a pattern emerging of a failure in game design and a disaster in customer relations building up for Squenix. Those that disagree will blame the reviewer for being too stupid to play the game which seems to be the standard reply by those that are trying to defend the game.
What you don't like the game but you haven't levelled past level 20? You loser.
What you find the UI counter-intuitive and difficult to manage but haven't spent a day setting up macros? You loser you don't know what you are talking about.
What you find the leves (quests) boring and repetitive? You don't appreciate the lore and style properly you loser.
What you can't find anything in the game or that is for sale? You haven't looked hard enough you loser.
Good thing I lost my account details and don't have to put up with this any more.
I'm still trying to understand how a company like SE could be so out of touch and completely ignore what has happened with other mmos as of late when they were released unfinished, unpolished, etc.
You would really think a company of SE's stature would know better. When are companies going to start learning from the mistakes of others?
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Kudos to PC Gamer for telling it how it is I guess , I feel some reviews have given 5 or 6 to perhaps limit the shit storm of complaints they would get from the fans of the game. .
... however I still feel the urge to try it out for myself , I guess thats the Mmo'er in me ... needing to experience every single game regardless off appalling reviews !
I sometimes wonder if PCGamer and Blizzard aren't the same entity. I don't think I have ever seen a Blizzard title get lower than a 90+ and editors choice award. Wonder what the review would have said if Blizzard was the one releasing it.

I know the feeling. The two reviews I read that have me hesitate though were the ones by Gamespot and IGN. I tend to agree with the majority of their views and opinions on games.
Most of the time anyways.

While I never actually bought the release of the game during Beta I have to agree with the writer on many levels.I suppose however my own personal review could be written in a single sentence.
"While FF XIV has acceptable / standard combat (When not lagged to shit and you're using a controller, not keyboard) the game loses out entirely on interface which becomes so frustratingly slow and cumbersome that whatever fun you may have in the game with combat is lost in the wayside."
^---- up there is my final review of the Beta. While I had fun fighting monsters by myself or with groups the game became more about going through menus than actually playing the game. Something I would think simple that bugged me the most of all is that every time you wanted to equip a new item you had to scroll through the entire inventory list regardless of the fact you selected an item slot. How hard would it have been to make it so if say you selected the weapon slot ONLY WEAPONS WOULD SHOW UP IN THE INVENTOY LIST? That simple feature would have resolved so much frustration and the fact it's not in nearly makes the paper doll menu where you select different slots useless. This also would have helped in crafting regards.
I actually enjoyed the gathering / crafting mini games... but again the menu system really destroyed crafting.
The game sucks. I wasted $80 on this POS game. And before you start the fanboy crap, I played past level 20 and a few classes and had my crafting up to almost 25. It got to the point where I was finding excuse NOT to play the game. I even used a controller since it is almost impossilbe to play with a keyboard and mouse. Heck, if it was such a great game why do you think the designer is giving you another month free. Do you really think they like giving money away? I refuse to pay to alpha test, yes alpha game is no where near what I would call a beta, a game for the console release in March.

The reviewer claims that opening your Inventory is difficult...
Nuff said.

"Long" and "irritating" does not mean "difficult", it points to the fact it's badly made.
Shoddy design does not mean 'hardcore'.

FF14 wont close before APB because they gave 30 more free days on game buyers time. only this factor will same them from an humiliating close ou.t

What I read was it takes 12 clicks to open your inventory. That isn't difficult, its retarded... Nuff said.

Poor review, poor writing skills...it is getting old.
I'm still having a ton of fun playing, but I agree with just about everything in this review. me thinks me crazy.
pie.
It's tedious, but that is an exageration. Just fyi. It doesn't take 12 clicks for inventory.
pie.
