The game doesn't deserve a skilled writer.   A lot of people are offended that SE had the balls to release it.

which is pretty much what everyone else thinks and directly to the point.

Yikes. And I thought the 4.0 gamespot gave it was low.

They gave everyone 30 more free days yeah but i'm not gonna use them anyway.  Game got uninstall for good and there is no way i'm going through the pain of even trying to re-install that again.   That game wont survive long, they need to make a NGE kinda move or it will close within the next few months.

Aparently blizzard are making WOW playable by children 4+, obviously they need to do this to allow pc-gamer to be able to play and review it. LOL.

All the negativity is like the hype train, once everyones aboard there is no stopping it, and people just  keep getting on.

Lmao then how come they awarded  Lotro (and its expac), Guild wars   multiplayer games of the year awards? IIRC BC was even beat out for that award by one of GW series game which triggered a WoW fanboy nerd rage in wow forums.Heck even FFXI got a pretty decent score when they reviewed it.

Don't like the review look at FFXIV sales it no 71 in amazon sales chart when box sales are that terrible for a new MMO that spells bad news. Fyi both WAR and AoC where in top 10 in sales even 2 months after release.

  • It is a pretty terrible game, and it got a score that reflects that. If I wanted to play a FF online game I would stick to 11 as it is far superior to 14 in every single way. This was a poor implementation and execution of what sounded to be like a great idea which is just rubbing the wound with salt and lemon juice. I agree pretty much spot on with the final verdict , and must say it was an all around pretty accurate review.

I've raged quit pc gamer for a while. Their blinded by Blizzard's games and are super biased. There review of some games compared to others has been getting a lot of negative feed back. Now with the website , they are getting the negativity in real time. Think what pushed me over the edge was all of the Starcraft 2 bull crap. It was so over the top, they should of just called the mag "Blizzard Gaming"

It took me 15 seconds to type "StarCraft II" into their website and see that you are blowing hot air.  A lot of the posts on their site clearly point out flaws with the game.

StarCraft II’s first patch – how does it play?

Doesn't sound like anyone is kissing Blizzards butt here.

Sounds like someone on the PCGamer team isn't that amused by the story.

Here he lists a bunch of things that are lacking in StarCraft2.

So basically saying "It was so over the top, they should of just called the mag "Blizzard Gaming" is nonsense.

If you ever played StarCraft II you could see that it is easily the best RTS game ever made even with it's flaws.  You can't throw a blanket over it just because Blizzard made it.

The game might not but I do...which is the point of any review.

^-  What... that sig?  So poor UI choices are 'ahead of its time'?  People can like the game for the world, or story, or gameplay, but I don't understand how people can defend a reall bad UI as being innovative or awesome.

I'd respect FFXIV fans a lot more if they'd say 'Well, yeah, all these different parts are really bad, but the good stuff makes it worth it', rather than the 'Everything is good!  It's amazing!  You're stupid if you don't get it!' lines I keep hearing.

Because calling people stupid for desiring a competently designed interface is... well...  stupid.

Wow that was a really low score and it came out almost a month to the release date.

Why do companies keep doing this? Is it poor management or shere incompetence?

In any case this game will never recover, games that get this bad reviews at launch never do. Unless they go F2P...

Which was done by Josh Augustine, who then replaced his name with "Pc Gamer" because a lot of people , a lot of people at the time where like "WTF".  Those articles where bombarded in one day's time. The article inbetween where then added to that particular day to try and regrain some sanity to what Josh did.

as far as SC2 being the best, I prefered Total Annihalation and C&C.

TA and C&C (Red alert?) where good, but SC was far more balanced and revolutionary that either games were.

Back on topic what does SC2 have anything to do with FF XIV what so ever? You are saying just because they are biased to blizzard they hammered FF XIV even thought they gave good reviews to Guild wars, warhammer, City of heroes and Lotro?

Even gamespot which gave good review for XIII, gave 4.0 for XIV.

Most of the time I would agree with this sentiment but in this game's case they'll be getting a mulligan to an extent with the PS3 launch.

Which it appears least to me is the launch that SE really cares about.

It is amazing though how many companies are repeating the same mistakes and false assumptions over and over again.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

SE has already push that release date back to May and latest rumors are that its going to be further push back to Summer, i do not think they have adddressed the memory limitations of PS3. Will be suprised if it ever comes out for PS3.

For those of you saying this magazine is Blizzard in disguise.   Lets talk about consistency of reviews,   Blizzard games get high marks from most every reviewer, whereas FFXIV gets low marks from most every reviewer.

Your theory is false, if the magazine were giving blizzard games 90% all the time but most other reiviews were 40 than your claims would have something behidn them.

Gheesh.  So how long before higher ups involved in this project start getting the axe?

Heh, can't be far off now.

I've subscribed to PCGamer for 3 years, and the only other 30 or less I recall was Alone in the Dark. Universally considered one of the worst games of that year.
