Let me add onto this fun to shatter the GW2 fanbois dreams a little more. You have to kill x number of boars. That's right this whole, "I don't want to have to kill x number of mobs quests anymore" is in GW2.
They use a morale bar to lie to you. Morale is based on the number of mobs you kill. You get a 'dynamic' PQ that tells you to kill a certain mob. You kill mobs (a certain number) until the morale bar goes down, then you finish quest.
The events are all PQs. You have a scout that tells you the general area and what the PQs are. He basically just points out...go there for quests. You go to area and do what? Do the quests that show up on your tracker on the right. Just like doing rifts and Warhammer quests. You finish these scripted events and turn in Karma that you received to a specific NPC that will give you rewards.
The PQs have real effects on them that last forever. The PQs reset after a certain amount of time. The first I've heard people say as fact. Anet has even hinted as much. But when addressed the second part, I've heard people defend GW2 that way. If it's the former, you are going to miss out on cool stuff that you will never experience in the game. If it's the latter, then it's more like a regular MMO- just the events have a longer spawn time. Which if you thought it was annoying to turn in your quest in Rift because of an invasion, you've seen nothing yet.
Your personal story is an instance that your friends can join you.
Not sure if there's raids/dungeons etc, so someone else will have to tell you about that stuff.
The game sounds fun, but based on how people judge Rift - I feel bad for Anet when GW2 comes out.
The more you know...
This post is so full of disinformation and speculation that it is funny. Here watch these videos so you know exactly what ANet is trying to do with dynamic events. Then maybe come back and actually talk about what they are trying to do. video1 and video 2

As opposed to what good sir? Killing waves of monsters in a scripted area in RIFT.
This is why I fear the word dynamic has no place in the entire conversation.

Your arguement is so empty and flawed it is hardly an argument.
First and foremost, there is killing in GW2... what did you expect. OF COURSE WE KILL THINGS.
Here is what makes GW2 different from any other MMO. Take the harpie DE for examaple... You have to lower the morale of the harpies to clear up a lake for some friendly ogres. Once it's cleared, you have to escort the ogres back. If you are successful, you get get karma. That's straight forward. At this point, in almost ANY other MMO, you would be sent back to kill "stronger" harpies for more experience. Yes? Alright, glad you could keep up. In GW2 however, there is no more killing harpies, in fact, there aren't even harpies there anymore. Since you lowered their morale they are too scared to drink from that lake. So yes, lowering the morale bar is actually lowering morale, you virtually scare away the creatures, not just killing 10 and leaving the other 20 to roam as you do in other games. Actually, once the harpies are gone, newer creatures come and start roaming around the lake, which opens up more DE's.
So basically what you are crying about, is that some DE have you kill a a few mobs. Grow up, it's called Guild WARS... war as in fighting and killing. It's not "go kill 10 harpies, then 5 glowing harpies, then 3 hellish harpies"; It's "clear the lake of harpies so that the ogres can use the lake, then escort them back."
Also, morale bar in itself is a bit dynamic, since it DOES SCALE to how many people are there. It's the same as an invasion in Rift or GW2, you simply kill off whatever attacks. The difference is, once you are done defending, you move on to the next part of the DE, which could be invading the enemy or anything. So once again... you are simply complaining that we will have to kill things in this game, which is absurd...
Of course, if you can find a video stating kill 10 of these and then kill 10 of "stronger" these, then kill 10 of "super" these... I will gladly admit defeat.
Let me add onto this fun to shatter the GW2 fanbois dreams a little more. You have to kill x number of boars. That's right this whole, "I don't want to have to kill x number of mobs quests anymore" is in GW2.

Wow, are you guys really so sad that you would make everything sound bad? Really? What's wrong with scripted quest chains that you can affect with your performance? What's wrong with worlds that change in more ways than one because you killed too many deers? What's wrong with a game that can go one way or another because of what you decide to do? Seriously, Watchawatcha just made it sound like GW2 does exactly what Rift does, which it doesn't. It's less linear, more varied and rewards exploration. If you can't see that then I don't think game worlds are really your forte.

Fufufufu... The King appriciates your line of thinking citizen.
Mayhaps those who hastily preordered their software just want some verification that their preemptive purchase is socially pleasing?
I have no notion as why someone would heedlessly fight something that is greatly unknown. Having played RIFT I do know about what it is, and that I would not spend time or money playing it. Guild Wars 2 I shall have to wait and see a bit more before I make such a decision.
I do find it interesting people have to make these comparisons now.
At best RIFT has a release date, GW2 doesn't. Someone has a small, but rauncous, victory to celebrate in such a fact.

I really can[object Window]t say which system is actually more fun when you are playing, but from reading about them and watching vids is it my opinion that GW2s system is way more interesting and diverse.
Rifts are cool even though I have to admit I got tired of closing them in EQ2s rift event a year ago or so, but those riifts were a lot more simple than rifts.
But comparing a dynamic system that is instead of quests and have 1500+ different events with a random event that is part of a game where you close different types of rifts, I can really vote for rift there.
There is a lot more about the games and I am looking forward to try both of them but in this aspect rift really can[object Window]t win. Which game that is most fun in the long run is still undecided but 1500+ different events or maybe 10-20 different spawning in random locations really isn[object Window]t a competition.
I can actually see myself playing both these games if they delivers.
I agree - rifts are repetitive as hell unless they do a few changes which may be likely, I wish rifts appeared differently - like some bursting through the ground, some coming out the ocean - it[object Window]s when you see so much of the same thing over and it begins to kill it

Did you know that at PAX and Gamescon there were demos for gw2? There were also demos for Rift i believe. Despite the fact that people got to play both games at the same place, most people chose gw2 over Rift.

Dude, your trying so hard you're making Rift look bad. I can easily argue both ways, and I have... but you are just in bad taste.
You seem to be under the impression that Rift's are NOT scripted. That trion didn't code any of the rifts or their puzzles, that somehow, out of the virtual world, rifts accidently broke into Trion's game. If you do believe rifts are uncoded... than God bless you, and have fun
On a seriou note; "Who cares about vultures?" How about, "Who cares about the 2,000 useless creatures I have to kill in Rift?" By that logic, games are useless and you shouldn't even play them. Let us honest players waste OUR time.
Also, DE's are optional, meaning they are NOT grind. You can get to level cap without ever touching the DE, save for the few training ones. Not saying Rift is bad, because I have argued for Rift being a good game, but you are really close to being a total mindless fanboi, trashing every other games because your so afraid Rift might not be as good as you hoped.
No i just have played Rift and think it's nothing more then a very polished traditional MMORPG that is alot of fun to play..

I'd still choose rift invasion over any other MMO... At least when you fight rifts, theres a bit of variety, puzzle and meaning. Not mindless crap like others...

I couldn't agree more. And if your into traditional MMO's, it's all cool.
I have said this many many times... GW2 so called "Dynamic Events" on paper are nothing more then scripted quest chains and if you take the so called "Dynamic Events" out of GW2 you are left with a 10 slot hotbar, same gear same level PvP arenas, loading zone galore, instanced story lines, instanced housing, cash shop that will make you buy missions(hidden monthly fee) and static scripted PvE..

Yes, and if you take the rifts out of Rift you have nothing but another game that people can point and call WoW clone.
It's also funny how you say a 10 slot skillbar is bad when gw1 did exceptionally well with even less slots. I told you before and i'll say it again "Lots of skillbars do not a good game make."
Yes the Dynamic Events are scripted, but so are the rifts (they are scripted to open, then send out mobs, then attack anything thats at the destination they were sent to).
Yes! that's exactly my point. This doesn't make GW2 a bad thing though imho. GW2 and Rift using similar concepts, but going about them in different ways.

If im not mistaken, that was the point of this topic. Ill admit myself there is nothing arong with the way rift is useing their events.
And i have previously pointed out that i belvie gw2 events are better, and possibly supprior to rifts. But thats my oppinion on the matter.
I do not mean for this post to sound harsh, but i just read 300 some posts of people argueing of the matter and it has me slightly irritable lol, I respect your passive comment here thoe. well put
Honestly, take rifts away from rifts... and just see what you have left, literally another generic as hell MMO. Im actually going back on beta experience and looking for stuff that would make rift a good game BESIDES rifts. I love rifts and all, but everything is else is meh...
Hmmm.. scripted PvE... once again, Rifts are scripted, so I don't know where you are going with this. I can predict what will happen in rifts already, simple because all the variations are too similar.
10 slot skill bars means you have to play smart. In almost all other MMO's, you play a class the same as anyone else playing the class. Take a combination of 3 souls, and look at what skills a top player would use. Well just about ANYONE has the skills, since they can use ANY AND ALL skills they have chosen.
Here's my gripe with Rift... they have this so called "new" soul system, but take a close look at it. They basically take a full class, and break into a bunch of tiny classes, then say it's so cool because you can chose from any of these broken up classes. Look carefully at the souls they offer, how many of them could have been put together to make a SINGLE class for another MMO.
Also, games are supposed to be entertainment. If a game can hide the "work", than it is already better than the other games. Simple as that, any smart person would prefer less work than more work, if it's entertainment they seek.
And for the love of... it's not on paper dude. There are probabably 100+ videos, with and without commentary.
And you did not debunk that RIft is just like every game out currently, why should anyone leave WoW to play its bastard cousin because of the rift system or it is the newest shiney same old game? They overuse rifts just like WAR did with public quest which leads to most people to be bored with them and bypass/ignore them by the time they hit 20, Only so much rift zerging you can do before it becomes really boring.
Sure the class system is interesting but in the end you are going to be running around with the same cookie cutter specs because you really need to spec high in almost every tree to make it worth while. You can gimp yourself if you do not just to say you are different, but almost everyone will realize you need to choose a primary spec and max it out to be good.
This may be what you are looking for in a game but it is nothing new to the market it is the same tired game wrapped up in a new package that will bore a good majority of the people who buy it within 90days because leveling is to fast people are going to blow through the game world in short order and the end game is nothing special. If I want to end game raid or instance pvp there is a game that already does this very well.
At least Guild Wars 2 I do not have to follow around a bunch of "!" it will offer server vs server vs server DAOC style pvp and that trumps anything Rift offers.

Sort of. Trion designed the rifts so they all opened up then sent out mobs then are closed. Essentially all the rifts are the same thing except that they could be fire, water, earth, etc. Anet designed the DE's so they all chain, branch, loop and cycle. The DE's are designed so Anet could make them do just about anything they want. All Rifts open and close. Some DE's start and end. I'd say thats all that they have in common other than that both companies are saying that they are dynamic.
Here's my gripe with Rift... they have this so called "new" soul system, but take a close look at it. They basically take a full class, and break into a bunch of tiny classes, then say it's so cool because you can chose from any of these broken up classes. Can a mage heal in other games then switch to a CC class then switch to a DPS class all on one character. Can a Rogue be range DPS, melee DPS, tank, then heal support all on one character on a given moment in other games? I could go on, but what's the point this part of your post is very inaccurate.

Edit: The more you know...
This is not a game.
You must play it first to see if it works, to me on paper sounds like a gimmick to mask the fact your quest grinding...
"It would be awesome if you could duel your companion. Then you could solo pvp".--Thanes
It's a gimmick that makes the gameworld feel more alive as well as hides grind. I personally plan to kill lots of deers to test out their theories.
This is not a game.
No i just have played Rift and think it's nothing more then a very polished traditional MMORPG that is alot of fun to play..
"It would be awesome if you could duel your companion. Then you could solo pvp".--Thanes
"It would be awesome if you could duel your companion. Then you could solo pvp".--Thanes
Yes! that's exactly my point.
Can a mage heal in other games then switch to a CC class then switch to a DPS class all on one character. Can a Rogue be range DPS, melee DPS, tank, then heal support all on one character on a given moment in other games? I could go on, but what's the point this part of your post is very inaccurate.
