I lost interest when...

I discovered you can only "multi class" into the same archetype. Pass for me.

Would have been amazing if they let you choose from any 3 classes though, oh well maybe next time.

    OMG!!!1!

I can't be a Tank,DPS and Healer all at once!?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO I HATE BALANCE >.<

    /sarcasm off

    OT: Seriously?

I find this hard to believe and would like to see a link, the original premise of the game and it's multiclassing system was to prevent the endless spamming of looking for tank/heal by having a random party member be able tp switch to their sub class...

  • jezvinjezvin Member UncommonPosts: 804

I like this system, you pick your role and then you get to add your own flavor to it. It would be cool if you could switch your achetype though. But I would not want everyone to be able to pick 3 classes from any of them.

By the looks of it the classes in each group, Warrior, Cleric etc, have the core class, a buffer, dpser and tank/healer so you can spec a few things but not be a pure uber tank/hleaer/rogue. Therefore people can spec when needed to help in dungeons but you can't be the best of every class.

I assumed we would only multiclass within that arctype. Honestly I've never seen a good pve mmorpg without the holy trinity.

No it is true only classes in the same archtype, but what the OP does not realize is that there are souls for example in the cleric calling that can tank or dps. Maybe not the best tank or best dps no one can be certain of that at this point. Just like the mage calling has some souls that can heal or trhe rogue calling has a potnetial evasion tank.

Anyways......LOL not sure why the OP would think you could mix and match anything it would be pure chaos. Just stupid.

Good to know, not ultimately a big deal for me personally as I have always played warrior classes and had really no interest in the other 3 archetypes, still excited for the game personally.

why would they let you pick any 3 class you wanted?  you gotta have balance.

  • Ramonski7Ramonski7 Member UncommonPosts: 2,662

So basically they allow a crap load of water downed classes that no "real" old school mmo player would pick over a pure spec players? Sounds like nothing more than a convoluted, bloated mess of a system that will still boil down to cookie cutter builds for serious guilds/raiders/PvPers.

I was looking for a system similar to D&D, hell even guild wars, where you multi class and set up the abilities that compliment eachother, which to me would have been far cooler than "tank" "dps" "heal".

100% agree and this is more or less what i was trying to get at for the people posting here who do not seem to understand the concept.

I am letdown by this as well.  From the proposed concepts, it seems this game will continue the trend of overly-balanced classes in which everyone is more-or-less the same.  Yawn.  It's too bad because I thought they were leaning towards games of old.  But who knows...it could be a solid game.  Just stating that it sounds like more-of-the-same post-WoW/EQ2 formula.

Yeah to tell you the truth I was quitely hoping Rift would be my "ace" backup mmo that would shun many of the new school bells and whistles for a old school throwback. But it seems TW didn't thow it far enough back to shoot past EQ's broken systems.

Why would he do that when there is a beta.

I lost interest when I found out it is a Korean game that is being "westernized" for us.

If I want eastern games I will play F2P.

  • OzivoisOzivois Member UncommonPosts: 598

Clearly by sticking to archetypes they ARE sticking with the old school.  D&D pen and paper is the real old school, and they were all about the classic archetypes and the need for a party to round out an adventure

I think you are confusing this game with TERA.  This game is being developed by a USA company in CA

And what proof do you have of that?

CCP is developing World of Darkness. If I were to guess I would say its going to be the closest thing to a skill based classless game that we will get soon. This is all assumptions of course with no real information other than CCP is developing it and if you look at Eve, that is probably what we will end up getting.

Well, CCPs World of darkness online will at least partly be that, even though you as vampire will have to select your bloodline.

Rift have other interesting ideas and I hope it will be a fun game.

Edit: Rmason said the same thing 15 seconds before me...

Yes d&d had classic archetypes, but you could also multi class and make your own class suited to your playstyle. Something this game could have done successfully.

Now however you will have the same boring builds and continue the trend of being the same as every other person, at least the hardcore who want to be truly effective, which in the end forces everyone to spec the same way regardless.

This type of system is beyond boring to me.

So why not cut out the illusion of being a jack of all and sticking with clear cut lines of the old? Because that's right, it's NOT like the old where other skills that have nothing to do with combat in D&D are used for anything. No lockpicking, searching, door bashing, identifying or hundreds of other skills that made each class in D&D viable outside of combat while still being in a group.
