Yet another Anti-Blizzard/WoW thread by SaintViktor. Nothing to see here. Check his posting history and you'll see what I'm talking about.
These threads are pointless and only serve to troll. Trying to defame a company in such a petty manner only serves to undermine the outlook of how the community of other games acts.
12 Million subscriber in total after 5 years or 6?? that dont mean 12 million peoples playing, alot of them quit,
my complet guild moved to another game and then another, and never played wow. if some1 like me quitted , other did too
i guess 4-5 million play wow now on the 12 million. and i guess with cata coming more people will be intersted in it and come back and new player will play too and the number will rise again,

No.
12 million subscribers that have paid for the game in the last 30 days is how they calculate it. The number is enormous. It is actually 12 million which is hard to believe. But it is a real number that represents exactly how many people have paid for the game within the last 30 days.
It has nothing to do with how many total people have played the game overall. That number would be ridonculous.
Yup they sold in 24 hours 2.8 million copies of Wrath of the Lich King. Imagine that in 24 hours so yes definitely not as you say the 12 million is over 6 years. Here is the link

They did specify 'active accounts', so that factors out inactive accounts.
You may be right thinking the number of subscribtions is lower in NA/EU. They did not release such statement, but knowing they only hit 12 million subs once WotLK was released in China, 2 years after they released the 11.5 million subs press release indicates at least a stagnation.
I cannot find the source, but it seems one dev (Chilton?) mentionned WoW had over 35 million accounts in an interview few years back.
I love these anti Asia posts. FYI Asia pays $9USD for 120 hours. So some pay less than $15/mth and other well... others pay a lot more In other news, at last count there were 300 million Chinese who made 80K USD or more and that number keeps climbing.

I'm waiting for the day my Chinese masters can look down on my ridiculous $15/month subscription method.
Shrugs about the only thing Activision/Blizzard do differently from every other MMO developer in terms of how they count subscribers is they actually tell you what they call a subscriber. The rest just throw a number out there without anything to say what a subscriber is.
What your really arguing about is the term subscriber and if thats the case would it make you feel better if they changed subscriber to people who paid to access the game in the last 30 days?
The lesser of two evils is still evil.
There is nothing more dangerous than a true believer.
How is that even considered a subscription compared to what a microtransaction is ?
Sparkling ponies and vanity pets are micro-transactions whereas buying game time, regardless of increment, is required to derive any value from those micro-transactions.
So game time is not considered a virtual item ? Since when ?

Just a tad above EVE Online....Interesting.
EVE at best has 500k subs, at absolute best. 500K doesn't = 5000K. There's an extra 0 in there you've apparently missed.

We pay $15.00 a per month not per hours or minutes.
You pay $15/720 hours.

Yea blizz is really uptight when it comes to these things they don't throw out false numbers nor do they play around with words.
