Started, Got Ganked. Quit.

Game was looking interesting, then I spawned outside the nooby zone, decided to try the acrobatics trial. During the little cinematic which told me where to go, I got ganked by a higher level hero. After that, I tried to find the 'de-flag' to turn off 'PVP' - couldn't find it. Quit. End of story.

I had better expectations of a PVP server, so that's just me. I'm not going to go into detail describing those expectations, then people who make comments toward that. So I chose a PVP server, which means I wanted to do PVP. But I didn't want to spawn at the nooby zone, get my ass beat down by someone whose been sitting their all day doing the same thing to other unexpected new players - who still have no idea what is going on - what the are around them actually entails - whether they should watch their back.. etc.

I was very dissapointed which not just getting killed, but getting killed during a cinematic. Which means, that person was purposely camping THAT spot because because they knew for 100% that a person who stood there couldn't defend themelves.

THAT of a HUGE flaw in the game, made me decide the entire game  wasn't worth my time or in the future, money.

-- Even Later Add

Well glad to see the topic is still going strong. In reality, I'm still playing the game and enjoying it a good bit. The PS3 version of course is extremely buggy, and I'm taking good notes for that - and I rolled on the PVE server so I can actually play it. I tell ya, I don't see how the PVP server works - because both Heroes & VIllains share the same area objectives, it'll be chaos trying to get even simple tasks done.

Just total chaos. Perhaps it may be fun, I dunno. But I'd certainly need a team mate or something to cover my rump if I get double teamed.

All-in-all, the game is shaping up nicely and it's a pleasant surprise. I won't buy the PS3 version though, as it feels unstable and looks poor on Standard TVs. Hopefully that'll be ironed out with a bit more feedback from the PS3 testers.

When the game starts choose a PVE server, fixed.

You got ganked because you made a mistake dont blame the ganker os the game..

Moral of the story don't roll on a PvP server if you don't want to get attacked by a higher level. Or don't flag for PvP on a normal one. In any PvP mode, server, or game this will happen.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience but it's not a product of the game just PVP in general unfortunatly that stuff will happen from time to time.

You couldn't be bothered to read the "TYPE" part of the sever selection?

  • cheyanecheyane Member LegendaryPosts: 9,404

Were there no server classifications or did you not read the type of server you picked ?

Point: I wnted to play a PVP server because I was told by the developers on their demonstration video I could 'flag it on and off', couldn't find it. I didn't wanna waste time finding it either. Since i couldn't shut it off, I decided it was a good example of a small hassel that'll reflect upon the rest of the game. If I had trouble finding something that should be so simple, I know I was going to encounter it many times over again in the future with other things. That is my first impression.

So would this have been your exact reaction if the game wasn't in beta and you lost a fight?  Now if we were talking about a game with some harsh death penalty I wouldn't sit here thinking "mmorpg's must not be for this guy" but as far as I know that isn't the case.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her: but once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game.

Flagging is for PvE servers not PvP usually.

Sorry, but that doesnt make much sense... a PvP server where pvp can be turned OFF..? Are you sure you just didnt misunderstand something here?

A function like that is mostly the sign of a PvE server in other games. Is this really how it works in DCUO..?image

Just going by what I was told by a Dev video. So I was confused, that is a problem that DCUO needs to handle, now don't you think?

When you are used to console gaming, the ganking experience is new to these players. I expect similar complaints from the console crowd.

Why does all MMO PvP games gravitate towards the ganking aspect. Why can't a system be designed where PvP has meaning for all involved?

I noticed as well as soon as you pop out the door there is a large skirmish of players at least 10 levels above me blasting me out of the box. After i blue screened from the lag I tried again. So the Villain hideout has no protective guards or safeguards against heroes camping outside their home? Vice versa for hero headquarters? Really?

I enjoyed the RvR ideas of  DAOC and to a lesser extent WAR, battle objectives and something to fight for. Is this game going to be one that seems reasonable for a week, then the no lifers get bored so they camp the spawn points?

  • wolftamerwolftamer Member Posts: 29

Orlean, that doesn't make one bit of sense.  Why would a pure PVP server let you unflag PVP?  Then everyone would do it and it would literally be the exact same as a non-PVP server...you must be thinking of a non-PVP server, which isn't gonna force you to be PVP.

This is a result of naivety, so my recommendation is to stop acting like a kid, go roll on a non-PVP server, and quit acting like a little girl who just wants attention for something bad.

And this is what keyboard tough guys call PVP. Ganking lowbies in spawn points with their high levels. Watch out now, soon someone will call you a baby and carebear.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

I hate people who are extremists and elitists.  At least those that think that their way is the only way and everyone else sucks.

Not everyone wants or desires PvP 24/7 where you have to watch your back all the time.

Even in Darkfall you had your city where you could chill out for a bit.  You could still be attacked, but you didn't have to be on nerve constantly looking for someone to take your stuff that you have been gathering by either gathering or fighting.

Because of this, to call someone a carebear or if they "need a tissue" is just a sign of a troll and someone who is having a hard time at life.  Or you could just be a geniune dick.  Either way, chillax.

I am not sure if there is a pvp flagger on the PvE server.  If you were on that server and being attacked.  I have only been messing with the powers during the tutorial and testing the attacks.

Maybe if someone stated that there was flagged PvP on the PvE server then that would be an excellent start to the troubleshooting.

You are supposed to give feedback during beta isn't it. So you quit did you by any chance give them a feedback of this experience ? Perhaps suggest a safe zone or give them your input on the experience.

The flag on or off thing is for the PVE server where PvP is purely optional. You unfortunatly joined a PVP server where it's always in effect. But in all honesty to quit just cause you got killed and lost nothing but a couple seconds of your time is kinda wrong.

Reroll on a PVE server where PvP is Optional and give it another go. You're in Beta. It's free at the moment. Stop crying and get back in there Poozer theres no crying in the Corps!!!!!!

Never ending, I know.  But their both extremists.

On one end, the extremist that loses when he rolls on a pvp server, crying "I quit", and on the other end, the extremist that camps unsuspecting newbs to cause grief in an environment that has absolutely no meaning, purpose, or game-play enrichment for the environment to do so.

There is non-instanced balance, pseudo open-world mechanics that can offer a predictable game-play experience of pve and suspensful experience of pvp, but it appears as though SOE failed in that regard, perhaps.

I actually rolled on PvP server and havent seen anyone :)

  • EverithEverith Member CommonPosts: 482

PS you can PvP on a PVE server. This sort of Ganking can not happen there but you can still get you PVP. I don't know what games you've played with FFA PVP but this is the way of it. Granted being killed in a cinematic hasn't happened to me on the PVP server so it might be an Isolated "Oops" but PVP= Expect to get killed without wanting to or expecting it near noobie areas.

I would suggest updating your OP with the last indepth post you made about the noob loading area and getting ganked while the intro cinematic was still playing.  That would go much further in helping your cause.  When I first read the original post I was thinking similar to other plosters.  You are on a PvP server, normally in mmos those don't have flags you can turn off.  It is the PvE servers that have flags.

However, if the loading area doesn't have any guards, and you are watching a cinematic getting ganked....then that is most certaintly something that should be fixed.  The spawn in area for new players should offer some type of protection, especially on a PvP server.

You know that if you go to a fast food resturaunt and order a double CHEESEburger that you are going to get cheese?

    Yeah.. I was surprised myself..

To be honest if i would have gotten killed like that I would have considered it Epic and it would have setup the rest of my beta experience trying to get that guy back for that.. Somehow.

That video at 44 mins says that in the PvP servers you PvP right out of the gate (going toe to toe) was the phrase but that in the PvE (playing for story and fun)  you can flag for it. I think you misheard the video and came to the wrong conclusions.
