Point: I wnted to play a PVP server because I was told by the developers on their demonstration video I could 'flag it on and off', couldn't find it. I didn't wanna waste time finding it either. Since i couldn't shut it off, I decided it was a good example of a small hassel that'll reflect upon the rest of the game. If I had trouble finding something that should be so simple, I know I was going to encounter it many times over again in the future with other things. That is my first impression.
Not to be "that guy" but if the game is in beta and you find something that is not clear, isn't your real purpose to report it so that they can change it for launch?
I mean, your purpose there is to find bugs and comment on featurs or "lack thereof" Not play the game and have a whopping good time. If you do have a "whopping good time' then all the better of course. Just a thought.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
PvE server is currently bugged since the last patch with being able to force people to flag.
Being ganked at lvl 3 when you come out of the tutorial on the PvP server can be a little annoying as the game is no Darkfall but i imagine they'll change something at some point. Got ganked repeatedly by a lvl 9 last night as i came out of the tutorial at lvl 3 and was surprised to see i could actually damage him which was nice, now i just need to get leveling so i can grab some CC protection as being perma knocked down ain't fun lol.
I haven't really done much other than that apart from go through the tutorial on a bunch of characters and superspeed round the city and the game already looks promising. Open PvP was what was missing from CoH for me even though i played it for years.
What i'm wondering is how you quit instead of reporting it as an issue, I mean you said it happened while you were watching a cinematic, that just sounds like a game issue itching to be fixed to me :P

^^ yea like I said he's in a free beta possition. Report the oddness of the situation and try again. if you said it happened like 15 times in a row and you couldn't play and it ruined it for you I'd understand. Plus at level 3 you can easily contend with someone up to level 10 or so depending on your character and a little luck since it's action based. I've seen level 10's beat 20's quite regularly. Either way no matter what happened it seems like a case of RAGE QUIT.
Calm down. Report. Retry. It's free it's not like you're paying a monthly fee at this point and from what you said it couldn't have taken more than 5 min to remake on a PVE server.
Game was looking interesting, then I spawned outside the nooby zone, decided to try the acrobatics trial. During the little cinematic which told me where to go, I got ganked by a higher level hero. After that, I tried to find the 'de-flag' to turn off 'PVP' - couldn't find it. Quit. End of story.

I had better expectations of a PVP server, so that's just me. I'm not going to go into detail describing those expectations, then people who make comments toward that. So I chose a PVP server, which means I wanted to do PVP. But I didn't want to spawn at the nooby zone, get my ass beat down by someone whose been sitting their all day doing the same thing to other unexpected new players - who still have no idea what is going on - what the are around them actually entails - whether they should watch their back.. etc.
I was very dissapointed which not just getting killed, but getting killed during a cinematic. Which means, that person was purposely camping THAT spot because because they knew for 100% that a person who stood there couldn't defend themelves.
THAT of a HUGE flaw in the game, made me decide the entire game wasn't worth my time or in the future, money.
Eh, looks like the main flaw was user error... you misunderstood what a dev said.
As for the rest of it, welcome to beta on a pvp server. Something like the issue of getting ganked while stuck in a cinematic is something you should post on the suggestion forums. It is still beta, and if people take the initiative to point out things like this on said forums or ingame reports, it might end up being fixed before launch.
Giving up after something trivial doesn't help make the game better. I guess some people really need to remember what 'testing' and 'feedback' means...
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

something totally went over my head in my first response to you, honestly this is beta. As another poster asked did you even inform them of your experience and suggest something they could have done differently? for all intents and purposes you should be taking this opportunity which the games population at large will not get to to help shape the game into what you think it should be.
I don't pvp often but it would seem one of two scenario's could be likely a game with both pvp and pve servers could make pvp impossible on pve servers, or they could make it possible on all servers (as I'm used to seeing games do) and hence give pve servers the option to flag or not, which would obviously mean on a pvp server you don't have this option. I'm not too sure of how they said they were going to do this and unfortunately neither are you.
Nothing wrong with having a negative perspective on your experience to this point but most people are going to look at what you posted and think of your response as an overraction whether wrong or right for those reasons.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Unfortunately, this is what happens when you use a beta as a selling point.
People that get beta access as a preorder feature, or through a subscription of some kind, etc. get the impression that they're "buying" the beta(which by most standards, they are). So when it doesn't work quite right, they're compelled to act like "customers".
in this case, the OP misinterpreted the video, all while moreless expecting a "demo".
Like someone else has said, flagging is typical of PvE servers, while PvP servers are gankville. You also have to deal with all of the filth that is drawn to ganking. It's a pit of a server type. Can be fun though to do from time to time.

Look, I think most MMO PVP is lame but this is nothing more than an example of a player that doesn't know what the hell he's doing. Dude, you wanted to "pvp unflag yourself" on a PVP server? Are you an idiot?
Roll PvE if you are interested in optional, part time PvP.
And this is what keyboard tough guys call PVP. Ganking lowbies in spawn points with their high levels. Watch out now, soon someone will call you a baby and carebear.
Yup, this is PvP. Yippee. But in all fairness, this did happen on a PvP server. I'm guessing the OP either misunderstood about flagging or was given incorrect information. Either way, if you roll on a PvP server, you've simply got to expect that you'll be the target of ganker jerkoffs. Had this happened on a PvE server, I think he would have a much stronger case. But even then, it's a beta. Just because the flagging toggle was hard to find isn't much of a valid reason to drop the game. Provide feedback and then ask for help. It's not a live release so you get what you pay for.
Gankers still suck ass though. No excuses being made for them.

Aren't closed beta testers supposed to be 18 to participate? Because of the NDA.

You make a fine beta tester, thanks for contributing. wait, no.
Heres the deal folks, on a PvP server you are flagged ALL the time. Obviously. Its a PvP server. You are ONLY protected from PvP AT THE DOOR OF THE SAFEHOUSE. If an enemy gets too close they will be shot by the guards which throws them 3 blocks away. They've increased the range on the safe house protection so its very tough to fight in front of the door.
Secondly, if you're a day 1 noob and know nothing about the game (as it appears the OP did) don't roll a PvP server. Even experienced MMO gamers shouldn't roll a PvP server until they understand the combat mechanics. At least if you know the mechanics a level 4 can defend themselves against max level characters. You may not win, but if they are camping respawn points you respawn immediately and can continue attacking while they still have to regen health and power.
If the problem becomes too much to handle in a PvP environment where you can't leave the safe zone at all, just warp, thats what they're there for, and run your missions by starting from another area and running back to your mission.
When you first zone from the door there are no cutscenes, mostly the open world cutscenes are the booster gold exploration adventures, and if you were doing that, you weren't even close to the safe house doors.
I think the OP is penalizing the game for his own bad decisions. Plain and simple.
I agree with the last two posters and I see this is as a problem with most beta's. People are in the beta to try out the game to see if it is something to buy. Or to get to know the game so that they things go smoothly for them at release. Instead of doing the things above but most important report things that are wrong. Now I know after a lot of beta-testing that the developers are not always listening to the testers, but still I think a lot of games would be much more enjoyable at launch if the beta-testers actually did use the beta to help the developers instead of going the selfish route.

Don't blame the players mate. Sadly, it's about the only way for people to try out a game these days. The days of trials or demos is gone...beta tests are interested parties only reasonable way to test a game before they buy. It's hardly selfish. I'm not QA...I'm a gamer. For $60, I want more than an IGN review.
To be a Beta tester means nothing regarding the development of a game nowaday. Just look at what happended to FFXIV. I am "beta testing games" since DAoC and I have to admit that the only MMORPG where the developpers were interested by the beta testers point of view was "Gods & Heroes" : after each quest, each level, you got an ingame popup asking you about what you thought so far, regarding the gameplay, ...etc. Unfortunatly GnH closed their door 2 months after the closed beta started... a bit sad, isn't it

We have been able to shape some of the development, those of us on the beta forums. For example, flagging was done very differently before the recent patch, and it was changed because we the players wanted it to be so. The mechanic was originally working as intended, but players didn't like being drawn into combat unwillingly on the PvE servers, so we made some suggestions and they provided the solution.
This game is still very much in beta. With the way the current patch schedule works, we'll be in beta throughout the next month at least. I'll be the first to tell you if the game is not ready when they announce the release date. Right now, the game is not ready.
if they can gank new players while they were watching cutscene when just starting out the game it mean just bad coding and foresight.should have just reported to them to get it fix and test further.
no company will do this intentionally unless they advertise this at the start.pvp server or not.but i think u quit too early since it is just a beta.why not just play on and see how pvp works when u know the game more?

Good PvP games protect their new players for some period of time and prevent outright ganking of players right out of the box. (even on a PVP server)
Assume that since this is a beta they'll do something to fix that. Hopefully they'll do the same with the cutscene thing.
