if anyone thinks SoE or any AAA company is going to spend time and money to remake EQ vanilla then you don't even belong in any mmorpg discussion and need a reality check.
EQ next will be a quest driven instanced based game, ( quest question marks over npcs heads ) with a match making system for groups like you have in WoW. Smed already said 15mins is to long to wait for a group. so i bet we will see henchmen type system like you have in EQ.
I bet you are right and I hope you are wrong.
Well, if he is right, no EQ3 for me.

Micro transactions and all.
The biggest mistake EQ2 and Vanguard made was creating a graphics heavy game and betting on the players buying new more powerful PCs.
Microtransactions ? Again, no EQ3 for me, if they have anything like that.
If it is a total reboot of norath, i think they once again underestimated what their eq players really want. anybody remember what happened with eq2, soe thought all those guys from eq1 would jump at the chance, lol and there still playing eq1. EQ2 players as well are not going to jump ship to easy either, as most of the ones who were not happy have already left.
I think soe has once again missed the mark as identifying what their player base is wanting.

They just said on fan faire that the game will be like EQ1 and not EQ2.
If you don't know anything at all about EQNext, not even the most basic info that's out, why even reply at all.
I think that answer was only given at fan faire when people asked about specific aspects of what EQNext would be like. For example the devs said the class system would be more like EQ1 than EQ2, because the eq2 class system was filled with problems. Many of the answers were like that, because quietly the dev were admitting how they don't want to repeat the same mistakes they made with EQ2.
I can see how this would give the impression that soe is going to lean towards recreating eq1 and not eq2, but honestly I don't think they are going to try to recreate either game. The scary part from that fan faire panel is when smed and the devs talked about the overall direction they were taking the game. While still ambigious, I seem to recall them talking about taking good aspects from eq1/eq2 and blending them with modern mmos to create something that is the best of both.
The overall impression I got from their answers was that EQNext is going to be the game they wish EQ2 had been 6 years ago. It all sounded like they were trying to fix the problems of eq2 by incorperating what worked 6 years ago and not what the current market is looking for.

Collector's editions are scams.
As per my earlier comment, I wouldn't be surprised if the game is launched like EQ1 and then gets progressively dumbed down until it's like EQ2.
