For those who have been in the betas, is it possible to change the game fonts? Besides the chat ofc, npc names fonts, etc??
Call me crazy but everytime I look at a screenshot with an NPC I can only think of WoW... not trying to make a comparison so don't get your panties in a bunch haters and fans alike ... but I think it's a ridiculous ripoff... I'm not talking about the whole game, because I haven't played it... I'm just mentioning WoW because of the npc "above head" text, and don't tell me it's all in my head lol
I'm not sure if you can change those fonts. Honestly I've not noticed a similarity between the fonts on RIFT npcs and WoW npcs. Then again it's been years since I played WoW. I would think even if it's not an option somewhere you could probably find / change it in your .ini or .cfg files.
I think it's a bit too similar to be a coincidence, not that it's a BIG issue... I'm just a picky guy, if it wasn't intentional I don't understand why no one at Trion noticed and said "hmmm, maybe we should change it a bit". Well to be honest I think someone did, if you notice the space between < > and the name is a bit bigger in Rift... eheh, it's the little things I guess
Really? The fonts are the same? I'm not sure what they use, but I'm sure glad they don't use Jasmine or some other crazy fonts. Seems like the standard font (whatever it may be) probably is the best for reading.
Sadly your comments are veryfing my thoughts about Rift. Souls areen't innovative, just are like trees in WoW or specializations like any other game; the dynamic events are the same like WAR's public quests; craft systems like wow and many others MMORPGs; rogue combos the same like WoW's rogue. There's nothing really exciting on this game for now.

Don't know if they're the same exact font, maybe the trained eye will be able to make a better judgment. They seem a lot similar but just scaled differently. Anyway, to a picky guy like me they look the same... just wondering if I was alone in this or not. It could just be my brain intoxicated from years of exposure to WoW eheheh

Souls are innovative actually. Four different builds. eight souls to choose from with 3 combinations of each build.
The abilities are similar in some cases, absolutely true. But what and how you can do is redefined for each character.
The RIFTS are reminiscent of WAR PQs absolutely. The footholds and invasions are completely new and does something that the WAR PQs failed to do. Real consequences for not closing Rifts; where as, WAR PQs are static theme rides.
Craft System is completely like WoW and Aion actually. Some items are quest dependent when refering to materials to craft for new recipes.
Rogue's in Rift are a tons better than WoW. It's actually unfair to WoW to compare the two, considering what you can do with the Rogues in Rift are so far superior. Can WoW rogues tank/dps/heal/range/melee monster/stealth/sap from range all on the same character?
There's tons exciting on this game. World PvP/Warfronts/Invasions/10 dungeons/ 10 'expert' dungeons (which are the same location, but different mobs etc as the story advanced)/ 2 Raid Instances (for 10 and 20 man)/ 8 soul combinations for up to 4 specs/

If you were really that picky, you would notice they are similar fonts, but not the same. If anything, you are the opposite of picky since you seem to think two similar yet different fonts are the same. Besides, what font type would you expect them to use? Did WoW copy every other MMO before it when it used a "similar" font?
What cause he didn't agree with you? It was a good article displaying the pro's and con's of his beta experience.
UI responsiveness - At times is horrific, feels more clunky than not. Best similarity would be WAR upon release.
Soul trees - Feel little more than WoWs talent tress, there is a bit more them I won't deny that, but to say this is anything new is stretching the truth.
Classes feel very 'samey'.
Rifts - If you have seen WARs PQ system the rifts will feel very simialr. Very.
Immersion - You are lead by the hand from quest hub 1 to 2 to 3. Never once did I feel like I was in a living world, though I did think I was in a singleplayer game several times. The quest system feels even more linear and on the rails than WoWs and that is an achievement. Never once did I forget I was playing a game, and an eerily familiar one despite the new locales and different graphics.
Some people will love the game, good for them and I hope that the game does well, but this whole article felt like it was hyping and selling the game rather than previewing it.
Now some things may change before release, but as things are improved my opinion will change, I won't smudge the truth in the faith that it will be all sorted by release.

the ui did feel clunky then beter next beta
the classes only feel the same if you pick souls that are similar then ya it would feel "samey" but then again they are based off the same "arch type" so I personaly would expect them to be "samey" as you put it but with different play styles
take for instance a shaman vrs warden a shaman is a DPS cleric with group buffs while the warden is the healing cleric class
immerersion ?? you ppl who want more WTF you want a rubber body suit that gives you that special feeling in teh naughty spots??? being able to make your own character that can have skills from multiple souls , thats my immersion , and yes they are giving us more points to be able to fully go with one souls and have fun with other souls.
that alone is something that reminds me of the days i played Asherons Call where YOU picked your skills YOU made your own character that you could play better then anyone . and why because YOU built up the skills not some cookie cutter like warcrap
rifts are nothing like warhammer PQ 1st off the PQ never left its spot to destroy the land side, 2nd with the little show of the zone invasion system it blew me away NO game I have ever played has anything like that where depending on the ammount of players will the game not a dev set in motion a event that have world bosses with more then half a million hp!!
Seen a post on here that says the graphics look like warcrap .. let me clear my throut HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
um cartoon graphics vrs high def models ya your right i can see how its the same (NOT!)
right now we only have had the first 20 levels and each beta something else is unlocked whats to come in beta 3 im not sure but i do know this after 11 years online ive never played a game wher ethe DEVS LISTEN to the player base
for example we said we didnt like having to wait to have the 3 souls to ge thte two we want so now all souls will be up for grabs when you get into game at lvl 1
it seems to me that most of you who talk this game down are wow players who baught cataclysm dont take it out on great games that your Holy Warcrap screwed up

Totally agree with you on every point, this is far too easy and I guess the Wow players will love it no down time little death penalty. Crafting is so boring it may as well of been taken straight from Wow too, this could of been so much more but it's very boring game indeed. I managed to get two toons to lvl 20 and a third to 16 on the first beta and also crafted one of them in weapon smith 79 and armouring 91. That said they could well turn leveling down when it goes live and because it was beta wanted to get folks through, but I wont be bothering after beta is finished.
Played both beta events and I was extremely dissappointed. The graphics in one aspect are good looking. The character models are kind of cool. The terrain is plain out horrible. You climb up any hill and its totally barren in some spots.
This game is nothing like EQ or Vanguard for those who said it would be. It is exactly like WAR married Aion, which for some is fine. Its not a bad game by any means but it is extreme themepark to the "T". You have no choices where to go, but are simply told via quests where to go. There is no "other" starting areas or questing areas you can do from 1-20. You must do the same thing over and over again. Crafting is one click wonder stuff much like WAR or WoW.
This is one of those games I would maybe buy and play once character through max. There is zero replayability in my book and the game is very shallow. I do agree that the Rifts get old and boring real quick. Its the same thing over and over and over.
Well, apart from beeing 'extremely' dissapointed (I am only mildly), and not feeling it is reasonable to find barren terrain in a world, I pretty much agree with this post.
I will reserve full judgement until I have seen the 20+ game and pvp though.
I don't get even why have two factions if less than 25% of the game is pvp. Makes no sense to me. Its just a pve game. If is gonna to be a pve game then I'll stick with wow.

Because there is no RVR in game. Since there is no zerging or objectives to fight for doesn't matter if there are two factions. population imbalance won't matter.
What cause he didn't agree with you? It was a good article displaying the pro's and con's of his beta experience.

Soul trees - Feel little more than WoWs talent tress, there is a bit more them I won't deny that, but to say this is anything new is stretching the truth.
I agree with most except this part. The way you can mix and match them as well as chose trees makes them "different" You can focus all your points on one path within one soul or spread them out. . add another soul of your chosing etc.
Can't you spread points among all 3 trees available to you in WoW as well? You wont' be "excellent" in any given one, but you can do it.
Looking over the explanation of it on the official site, it looks something similar to the skill tree system in Asheron's Call 2... which I was rather a fan of, personally.
However, from what I've read I don't see anything new or ground-breaking in Rift's system. It's one more take on a familiar system...

well yea....why even have factions? The point of having factions is to have pvp on some level. since this game is more focus on pve content, for me why should I switch from playing wow? I like pvp in not battle arena like in daoc. If this doesn't have it then I'm not switching.
played this game in beta 2 and was such impressed of it, great game, didnt meet even one beta tester in the chat or out of my mates who wasnt agreeing with me, so im rly wondering where all the haters are coming from now tbh very nice game, large recommendation for it

One of the things that makes this different is the "Root" part of this system. The "Roots" are basically the class spells but each soul has "some what" different spells.
This means that you are really able "to some extent" pic your class spells, if you have an spell or an ability it was you that made the choice to have it, where as in WoW you would have access to it because all warlocks, death nights or what ever you single class is, have it. In RIFT this can make a profound deferents, its like being a Hunter that could have a rogue's stealth!
This is something you can't do in WoW. This is IMHO a BIG plus.
I don't know why people are complaining about a game which is still in closed beta because it is quite possible that the developer is only showing us a portion of the final product. So far, imho, the most intriguing aspect is the class system because You get to choose from 6 different "souls" to make Your character and according to their website one will be able to grow or replace the souls later in the game, and there may be more than 6 when the retail version is released. If people are saying that this is the same as wow then obviously they only spent a few minutes with their character during the betas. The time that i got to spend with the game i was able to create several characters and even within the same calling You have multiple routes to take the classes in, meaning that mages and warlocks can heal and healers can melee dps while hunters can stealth and rogues use spells, etc, etc. It is these options and possibilities that i'm looking forward to not better graphics or a greater landscape. As far as the exploration goes we have no idea what will happen beyond level 20 and a lot of negative opinions are forming based on a tiny sample of a product. And we haven't even got a glimpse of the pvp system at all, we do know that it will be part of the game because there were pvp quests, pvp npc's in the betas as well as pvp realms and the two existing factions.
So why don't we give someone else a chance to make improvements in a genre where so many people are playing their games only because there is nothing else available? How many times do we hear people complaining while they're still playing wow and pouring tons of money into blizz?
I say good luck to Trion and I, for one, am very glad they are trying to make a decent game which may give us, the gamers, yet another choice. Let us see what happens when the game releases and we get to sample all the goodies.

Before someone asks:
The Rogue combo that will let you do that is -
Spec in
Nightblade / Marksman / Bard
of course there's five more souls to choose from so others will find even better combos that work for them.
I'll be going Ranger / Bard / Riftstalker : )
as well as Sentinel / Warden / Purifier
and Elementalist / Pyromancer / Dominator
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Dang, Rift sounds pretty cool, can't wait for it too come out.
You only have one life. Are you living it the way you should?
I'm a veteran MMO'er and RIFT is great.
RIFT is already at the stage of polish that most current trash MMO's would be after a year.
