LOL EQ2 graphics were not that great sorry maxed out or not. They were ok with there huge blocks of water lol dont get me wrong EQ2 is a good game just not graphic wise.   These graphics look great from what ive seen. Maybe not AOC but this looks great. I'll see here soon enough and set it to max on my 5870. I don't see wow graphics in this at. Really comparing this game to wow or Eq2 is like comparing Farcry to crysis and thats a joke. GW2 will set the new graphic bar for mmos.

Not really sure if this game will pull me out of Aion. Maybe after a few more beta's I'll get more into it. I too skip the rifts but find the soul system interesting. I get the feeling however that groups will only want certain templates, so it may end up being no different than any other. Time will tell, unfortunately only after I do or do not take the plunge.
Originally posted by Letsinod Played both beta events and I was extremely dissappointed.  The graphics in one aspect are good looking.  The character models are kind of cool.  The terrain is plain out horrible.  You climb up any hill and its totally barren in some spots.    This game is nothing like EQ or Vanguard for those who said it would be.  It is exactly like WAR married Aion, which for some is fine.  Its not a bad game by any means but it is extreme themepark to the "T".  You have no choices where to go, but are simply told via quests where to go.  There is no "other" starting areas or questing areas you can do from 1-20.  You must do the same thing over and over again.   Crafting is one click wonder stuff much like WAR or WoW.    This is one of those games I would maybe buy and play once character through max.  There is zero replayability in my book and the game is very shallow.  I do agree that the Rifts get old and boring real quick.  Its the same thing over and over and over.
If Rift is really a child of my two favorite game WAR and Aion, I'll sacrifice all my family for sake of MMO gods. 1 hour left to join beta, so excited...

p.s: I need something to get rid of my Aion addiction. (btw it's incredible now with v2.1)

p.p.s: I can't understand why people is trying to compare Rift with old, terrible, poor games (yeah I mean WoW and other shits)

Not sure about the graphics, to be honest. They remind me too much of WAR - dark and bland to a point where it actually started getting depressing. It's like the game world lacks life and soul. WAR had the same problem. I'm also not a huge fan of character models and animations.

The game itself, is OK. Nothing to write home about, frankly. The whole questing experience feels rushed, like you're being hurried from one quest hub to the next. This has an ufortunate side effect of making me not care about the lore. So far, the quality of the quests, that I have encountered, is very similar to WAR - kill and delivery. Definitely cannot compare to the quality of WoW's Cataclysm quests.

The factions seem uninspired and a bit forced. Personally, this game could've done without them, it's not PvP-centric anyway. The way the factions are set up is too much like WoW and Aion, in my opinion. You have your "good guys" and your "darker good guys." They are both fighting the bad guys but hate each other for whatever reason.

As far as combat goes, it's your standard MMO type combat. I've gotted a rogue to level 9 and so far combat as a rogue is a direct copy of WoW. Some attacks add combo points and then you have your high damage finishers. I've also played as a mage (necromancer/warlock) and I was able to make him somewhat similar to WoW's Affliction warlock. Now obviously, I'm talking about low level combat and I hope that it does get better and more varied at higher levels.

Basically, so far, the game failed to grasp me. I'm going to continue playing it for the duration of the beta event as I want to see how it plays at higher levels but barring some unforseen developments, I will probably not be buying it.

I like the Rift events because you can be doing a quest and unexpectedly have a Rift open up next you.

The engine reminds me of the War engine but done alot better and it beats having a cartoony character.

I like the fact you can make your character anyway you want.

I like the fact that Trion actually fixes things players want.

I like the fact it is a great fill in the gap mmo until GW2!

I like the fact that I like Rift!

It is apparent that most of the posters in this thread don't have a clue about Rift.

Despite borrowing many features from several past and current games, the soul atunement system is unlike any other MMO.  This system allows for countless unique character builds, far beyond WOW, WAR, Aion, EQ1/2, etc..   Whether you find this feature engaging is another issue all together.  But it does differentiate Rift from all its contemporaries.

Here is a link giving an overview of how it works:  http://www.riftgame.com/en/classes/system.php

I will continue to beta Rift because I believe this game has a lot of potential.   Try out the beta, and judge for yourself.

I played the beta last night, nothing innovative at all.

I WANT INNOVATION!  I don't want to play a game doing the SAME motions in the game I currently play.

If developers can't get out of the same mold with MMO's I might need to find a new genre.

I also played the 3rd beta last night and alot of improvements from the 1st 2. I even re rolled a toon to see all of the new things that they have done.

Is the game something totally new that will blow your socks off. Nope. It does have alot of the same features that you have played in any other good MMO. With some improvements added in.

All in all enjoying it atm. Only back to lvl 10 atm, 3rd time running through the same zone and so far still enjoying it.

    I'm with you on this.

Luckily games like Guild War 2 are on the way to hopefully save us from this. But with Rift it's clear that we're still some time off before we see the end of the growning amount of WoW clones still hitting the market just about every month or so.

Trion Worlds played it safe with their first MMO, like so many other companies have before them these past 4 or 5 years, because of WoW. Suppose 1 can't blame them, but even still, it is rather sad. Best we can do is wait and be patient. Something great is bound to come, it's simply a matter of time.

Ok this game is anything but shallow

If you play beta you didn't try/test clearly enough of things.

For all time that 3rd beta goes I played rogue type class blade dancer/bard/assassin type and I can honestly say that I didn't achieved all what I wanted in beta while playing I noticed many interesting things I even was ruining on map for find all of the artefacts and rare monsters I spend on it 1 whole day running back and forward like crazy and still finding new things and quests that were optional.

For other hand this game is mend to played in group if you are solo player you will miss half of fun at best no epic loot from rifts cuz you can do only lesser ones.
Guild system is quite modern too having perks that guild chose for points that guild earn not like in WoW next lvl next perk, guild quest many types for example one of first was to clear dungeon 15 by guild members and for crafters like create 100 of that item.

Soul system is quite interesting concept and role change is epic need support have a bard, need mele dps sure blade dancer, ow you need range one ok ... Marksman is fine ?? Quick response for team whit out need to go to respec each time when you like to go pvp.

Like I say there is so much of content that yes most of it was in other mmo games but didn't WoW did it same copied things that people liked and were working and put them in ??

Yes I'm bit hyped on this game but I played lot of mmo and I can freely say this game can be good if they will polish rest of content like first areas for both factions

I've played DAoC, WoW, LoTRO, AoC, WAR and EQ2 each for a solid length of time and enjoyed many aspects of each but not all. But that's the way it is.

I had the great fortune to beta test a few of those titles prior to launch and can attest that each needed further maturation before they were launched. Having beta tested Rift I was stunned at how ready the game looks. Granted they are still tweeking the incursions and rift popping and mob balancing but everything else seemed to work really well. Mail system (check), auction (check), teleporting with pets (check) and so forth. At this point I see Trion focussing on listening more intently than ever to the player base that will be entering Rift so they can deliver the fun game their players are expecting.

I like seeing positive input about a game. That doesn't mean all happy bunny-time cuddle words of hype about the game but instead what players see as being done right. It is inevitable that players will find something that just doesn't suit them and that is fine to mention it but include a possible resolution aka, constructive criticism.

I look forward to pre-ordering this title and giving it a fair shot at winning a long term subscription. Will I compare it to others I've played as I judge it's value, sure I will but only after I have given it that fair shot. I personally can't judge that kind of detail in about 20 hours of game play.

I've been eyeing SWTOR as well so I hope for a real battle brewing bewteen the two for my time over the next few years.

Rift is in a pretty good shape that's true . Having said that DAoC and LoTRO where undoubtedly the 'gold standard' as far as release readiness goes. By any objectve measure Rift has not surpassed them (yet). I think your enthusiasm for Rift is clouding your judgement. Imho the area that needs most work are the soul (skill) trees. Whilst some work farily well many are lacklustre or have poor synergy with others in the archetype. Even with half the skills and talents unlocked (whcih they are at L20) combat is 122122122 for many souls. This is because often level 0 skills are superior to later more expensive skills.
