Anyone else think of this when they saw the Manifesto of GW2?

Odd how they're both from the same parent company.  Funny how these things happen.

OH a manifesto is what they hope to accomplish btw.  Their 'Vision' if you will.

Yep, didn't I read somewhere on the Trion site that the fellow responsible for these Aion marketing videos is now in the employment for Trion and working the marketing plan for Rift: Planes of Telara?

    Just a bit curious...

    LOL !!! Owned...

ummm pwned?  It's true Rift is the next game I will play.  I enjoyed the beta.  I will probably end up playing GW2 as well.  This thread had nothing to do with Rift, but since you bring up that video.

You've just done the job for Trion congrats.  You really think they made that video not knowing that people like you would link it?  Even if to make fun of it?  They need to get the word out and you've helped them do that perfectly.  Well done sheep.

Go back and read some of the post in here.  Some people have said that EVERYTHING in the manifesto is in the game.  They've also said there's video to prove it, but supplied no links.  I've researched the game and found a gap between what they are saying and what I see in the game.  Like I've said who knows how many times now, GW2 looks really good.  I'll probably buy it.  My thing is that I keep hearing people bring up the manifesto as proof of how awesome GW2 will be.  It just might be, but it reminded me of people saying the same thing about Aion.  Wait til the next update, Visions is coming!  Hence the comparison.  OH and I was called a troll for questioning this on a number of occasions in this thread.  So yeah, everything Foomerang said is true.

Go see post 35 on page 4 in which I included a link to a video.  I guess you just missed it as you didn't reply to it or several other posts such as the one above post 35.

Great!  I did miss that.  Thank you so much for the link.  I now know what GW2 is, a quasi single player game that's calling itself an MMO.

I hesitate to ask since you appear to have completely ignored the points in my post, but how did you come to the conclusion that GW2 is a quasi single player game that's calling itself an MMO?

From everything I've seen on my own and what you've supplied, which again my thanks because I haven't seen it before; all the dynamic changes are applied by having a form of an instance.  A separated game environment from which to advance your own 'personal story' (their words not mine) that makes the world change.

I think I see what you are saying.  They are pulling in some single player elements like having your own branching storyline and personal instance in the home city which reflects decisions you've made.  I would still say the entire persistent world with dynamic events that bring people together makes it a proper MMO.  It's kind of like saying SWTOR is not an MMO because you have your own ship and your own personal storyline.  These are things that I feel are added to the MMO, not taking away from them.  But I think I understand where you're coming from, thanks for clarifying.

tbh I think SWTOR will be more of a single player game than GW2 will be based on what I've read and seen so far.

What makes you think this?  I'm really curious what makes people think SWTOR will be more single player then say any other MMO?

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

I think it's because it's so story driven (is it instanced?), whereas in gw2 the story is one aspect. So it appears to look like a sub version of KOTOR. However, it is an MMO and i'm sure the focus is still mainly on teamplay.

yeah the personal story is instances,  however most of the game is not.  Really only the personal story is the only thing that requires you to play alone, everything else can be done in groups if you so choose.

In most cases the quest are similar to how they are done in most MMOs, just that the presentation is changed by adding VO and interaction.

Anet is a division of NCsoft, you need to come to terms with that.

Just like actiblizzard is part of vivendi.

Would vivendi close blizzard? And do vivendi immediately control how wow is made (or the titan mmo)? or cod?

    No on all accounts.

It'd be like setting fire to the farm that feeds your family. Technically NCSoft could close arenanet, but they'd (arenanet) have to be failing hard to do so, considering ANet is basically NCSoft wests proverbial farm.

Aye, so effectively it'll be about as much instancing as guild wars 2, which is perfectly fine. :D

My prediction for GW2 box sales just went from 5 million to 10 million.

Apparently some people think that if you take an MMO and have all the normal features of a full blown AAA MMO then add some great features that have only been seen in single player RPG's as of yet, then it is no longer an MMO.  To each their own I say.

No, the personal story instances aren't only single player. They can be done with friends, but those friends can't make any story decisions for you and any choices you make in your instance doesn't affect their personal story. So, really there's not much of GW2 that's "single-player", unless you don't want or need help in any of the instances. I think it'll be as much single-player as WoW is to be honest.

Your right, i'm not on the ball today. Instead of making up my own stuff i should just go to the feature list.

Class Quests – Fully solo able but can still be grouped if wished. Only your decisions count. Enough to get you to level cap if you do not want to do anything else.

That says it better then me just trying to say it in my own words and mess it up.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Lets hope it gets less of a single player game than Wow, thank you.

While you can bring friends in the personal storyline I think it will be a project most people do when their buddies isn't online.

But almost every single MMO have solocontent. Most of GW2 is stuff you do together with other people, no matter if you are grouped or not and that is actually a difference to the games where most people solo level up to max level.

Some solo content is actually nice, some days and hours it is hard to get a group and sometimes I just feel antisocial. Too much is boring and GW2 seems to have enough but not too much, even if that is something we can't be 100% sure of yet.

    Two reasons to trust Anet

    1. they have a history of being honest and saying exactly why and how thing are going the way they are

    2. Their trailers all show gameplay to some extent (unlike WoW, DC Universe or Star Wars: old republic who made their games heard with only flashy Cinematics; which are pretty, but do nothing to tell me how good the game will be, which concerns me that they would do that; its a trap!)

Event Chains of Dynamic Events will make-up the majority of the open world PvE content in GW2 . The above link is the best video explanation of Dynamic Events that I have seen . It's not new but if you haven't seen it before then it's definitely worth watching .
