verb (used without object),-aled, -al·ing or (especially British) -alled, -al·ling. 1. to retard the forward motion by pressing backward on the pedal, esp. of a bicycle with coaster brakes. 2. to retreat from or reverse one's previous stand on any matter; shift ground: to back-pedal after severe criticism. 3. Boxing. to retreat from an opponent, esp. by stepping rapidly backward.
It's called English, I'm not picking and choosing definitions.
Nice fragmented quote and good job on the poor deflection. I stand by what I said.

Right now i think bioware will be blizzards main competirot mainly because well old republic looks hella promising and bioware also had years years of time too perfect their game developments starting way back during baldurs gate they have grown since then now are backed by ea. And they have pumped millions of cash into making this mmo and well they are using the starwar name. all them key factors is gonna draw a crap load of people into their game if it doesnt tank on release do too buggyness i can say this game will most likely be the next in line for mmo domination.(Im not saying its gonna dominate its still too early too tell but with all the factors on its side, WoW wont stay on top forever.
Originally posted by utterbaver Hahah! i think if blizzard made another mmorpg, they would fail, they cant re-create their own so called " fantastic " creation, it would fail alot. And i dont think they would be able to create something different, so it would seriously be like any other mmorpg.
Here are a few things to keep in mind. There is a perception that WoW is the game that all other games somehow are to be compared to. It is disappointing to see the never ending diatribe that has become the WoW effect. Granted, Blizzard makes good games, I enjoy them too, however its a mistake to think that Blizzard 'has' to be the measure of the gaming industry.
Blizzard has set the bar high, but its not for everyone regardless of how many people play their products. Can Blizzard create another 'popular' game, sure, will it be WoW, of course not. Does Blizzard have a huge fan base, sure. I like their games too, but I don't allow myself to measure my interest in other games with a WoW measuring stick.
As of now I can't make a call on which particular game I'm focusing on, but what I won't do is make Blizzard my litmus test.

And if we're being quite honest I think everyone knows at this point, no MMO is going to be released and trump Warcraft's numbers. It would be like trying to release on operating system to compete with windows or a search engine to kill google. Blizzard has the best talent in the industry, they've taken the core forumla of MMO's and refined it to the point that anyone can get into it, and enmeshed Warcrafted so deeply into popculture that there is really no competing with them.
The way I see it the only way MMO companys will be able to thrive in the years to come is to innovate and do something completely different.
Pretty much this.
If and when the MMO industry as a whole eventually admits this obvious fact, we'll all be better off for it. In fact we'd be able to say that WoW and Blizzard will have done the MMO genre a huge favour by forcing their competitors to innovate.
Every day people that have played MMORPGs for years lose interest in gaming, or are just to busy to enjoy that hobby anymore.
And every day people that have NEVER played an MMORPG try WoW for the very first time.
No innovation is necessary until WoW begins to look old and moldy compared to the average game online.
WoW is like a juggernaut in Halo Reach! You never attack it alone you sit at the sidelines until you see some other idiot run and attack him. Then like 9-10 people rush out in hopes they blows hes brains out and take the crown.
although WoW is not a free game, and already have huge fanbase. the competitor may come in good free/item mall based MMO...
That's doubtful. The culture of the west seems to have a huge distaste for F2P games, or pay to win games. Just think of phrases that westerners use such as, "you get what you pay for" and "nothing is ever free".
Buy 2 Play has a better chance at being a true competitor than F2P. GW2 is going to be the true test to see how well B2P can compete in the market.
I'll hazard a guess that B2P games can do extremely well. Look at how many single player games release and then continue to make money through DLC. MMORPGs could find a way to not only survive, but flourish in that type of environment.
Figure the cost of the average mmo is $50 at release and often xpacks will sell for $40. So you sell your new game, and then every 2-3 months add in some optional content DLC for $15 or so. Have fluff items like costumes and what not always for sale for like $5 and release an xpack every year for $40.
If you make the DLC content purely optional, people will buy it, because they don't feel forced to do so. The fluff items get all of your impulse shoppers and then of course the xpacks add in completely new areas, races, classes, etc. You'd probably make a lot of money, as long as the game was good.

WoW will probably compete with WoW2 at some point.
I kinda doubt those WoW fanbois will play anything else, ever.
