The truth is that fear is natural. What causes fear of purchase in the first place? Scared of not enjoying the game, but also scared of failure or being judged by others, not having friends jumping in to play with you.
What is the solution? People will take a path that has already been taken and follow it. If a majority say "we will not play this game", most people will think "well it must be a bad game". But the truth is, all of them are living the same fear as you do. Would you dance ballet? Probably not, yet I'm sure it's a pretty damn athletic sport actually! But who cares, I don't want to learn ballet either.
Now, why can't people chose for themselves what is fun and what isin't? This is exactly why everyone has to try the game, and why they are making the beta so easy to reach for everybody.
Finaly, people who WRITE about why they will NOT buy the game, have you thought about why they're doing it? Right. They say: "I will not play THIS game, but I will play THAT game.". They think that by discarding a game, they can hype their favorite game even more! Therefore maybe everyone will hype and follow them to play their game. This is very 8 years old and yet it still works.
Think for yourself if you want to try or not a game just throw in the 15$ and enjoy it.
Thank you!

By you telling me to think for myself am I placed in a quandary?
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
I wouldn't worry. Word is getting out that this game is good. People like you and others (myself included) have challenged the misinformation and acknowledged what the game is and isn't.
Scared?! Pffffffft.
I'm sorry, but talking down to people who have no interest in buying a particular game is just about reaching its nadir right here.
Disinterest =/= fear.....
Huh?
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Word of mouth spreads fast in the gaming world, you can't deny the fact that Rift is a truely polished AAA MMORPG..
"It would be awesome if you could duel your companion. Then you could solo pvp".--Thanes
I have a feeling a good percentage of those criticizing the game now, will end up buying it anyway from lack of better options in 2011.
Wow... You should be on Opera.
Pre-ordered digital CE after beta 3, got the 6 month sub for 10 bucks per as well
I love RIFT.
Can't wait for it to go live. Great game, good gameplay, beautiful graphics.
Most important...it's fun and I like it.
Could really care less what all the haters think, they wont be there anyway...but they probly will because their are just QQ'ing from boredom.

I dont' think anyone is scared of rift. I just think some people don't like it.

I think you are my friend, maybe together we can strive to be individuals?.
~points at self~ You talkin to me? Hell yeah I'll be playing.
Critiquing a games flaws will make it better, being a rabid fanboi will result in a shoddy product!
And yes, I do give feedback to the devs, but it's fun to banter about it while the beta is down.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
But your posts are too linear and lacking in the innovation department :P
We are all basically here to pass time before next beta round. Complete agreement would make time pass by a lot slower.
I don't think anyone is scared of Rift or has reason to be scared of it. Some people who post here negatively may actually not enjoy the game, and just want to express themselves. We have to be mindful of others opinions and not label them a troll just because they don't agree with us. These are MMORPG forums after all, so people are going to express their negative opinions just as much as their positive opinions.
There are some "trolls" and some "fanboys", but there are also plenty of people who have legitimate reasons they don't like the game.
Also OP please don't use words like OFFICIAL. Nothing about this post is official. Official would be words from Trion themselves (or MMORPG moderators). You can't really comment about something officially either when it's purely based on opinion.
I think my biggest concern is the majority of players who will not play a game is because of the mentality of
"I do not know what I want, but I do not want this"
With all the MMO's out there and all the MMO's coming out, why are all of them "getting it wrong" ? Because they don't know what you want, since you, yourself, do not even know.

People have different motivations behind not liking the game or games of its kind. For some it has become a crusade against everything that they perceive is wrong with the genre today. It's not that the genre hasn't moved forward or innovated enough. It's the direction it has innovated to.
MMORPGS are like that garage band you used to love along with 400 other people, that one day decided to add some coherent lyrics and tunes people could hum to. The result was massive popularity and several platinum records. But now you hate said band because they are popular and every joe smoe listens to them, including your 13 year old sister, which has a poster of them on her wall. They are now the epitome of sellouts and suck. Now you and your 400 friends can feel special and unique again by hating said band, looking for another band with a small following, that nobody cares about but you.
This is a joke, right?
My only real problem with Rift, is that it's exactly like WAR. Right down to the art assets, it is a total ripoff in spirit and execution. You can work your way down a list of WAR's attributes, and Rift has all the same ones, implemented in nearly the exact same way. In a broader sense, it makes me angry that developers are getting away with it, and the people who are so ignorant as to be duped by such a project are the ones to blame. First we had Perpetuum, and now Rift. Stop playing this recycled shit, and maybe a developer will have a reason to make a new game.
Can you point out a few art assets taken from war? I don't recall seeing anything like that.

Stopped reading at this point because you obviously have no concept of reality.
I never played War so why should I care the game is a carbon copy of it?
Why does this affect you on a personal level that you get angry about it?. Isn't there enough upcoming titles you can throw yourself at to care about this one?
I think this is getting a bit out of hand... spin more plox.
Enjoy the game if its your thing, but the OP is ridiculous to say the least.
It's saturday, he is probably drunk. The overall message is good though
Eh, I cannot find it in a quick Google search, but there was a post that had screen caps of a few particular mobs that were identical to ones from WAR. I don't mean similar, I mean they were the SAME mobs. Some kind of death knight type mob was the one that really stuck in my head. I am not here to nitpick, if you don't see WAR when you play Rift, then you have either never played WAR, or need your eyes checked.
I recently had the epitome that i don't like current mmorpgs, which is why i only like guild wars 1 and by extension my only interest for 2011 is gw2.
However, i will say this: For those who've not become jaded at the standard MMO gameplay, rift will be very interesting for you and worth at least a month. I knew from playing it that i'd find it fun 2 years ago, but as it stands it not much different from the standard MMO layout. Not that it's bad to not innovate too much from the norm, as WoW continues to make more money annually than most african countries, But it won't drag you away from most other MMO's unless you're bored of your current MMO.
