What is the solution? People will take a path that has already been taken and follow it. If a majority say "we will not play this game", most people will think "well it must be a bad game". But the truth is, all of them are living the same fear as you do. Would you dance ballet? Probably not, yet I'm sure it's a pretty damn athletic sport actually! But who cares, I don't want to learn ballet either.

Now, why can't people chose for themselves what is fun and what isin't? This is exactly why everyone has to try the game, and why they are making the beta so easy to reach for everybody.

Finaly, people who WRITE about why they will NOT buy the game, have you thought about why they're doing it? Right. They say: "I will not play THIS game, but I will play THAT game.". They think that by discarding a game, they can hype their favorite game even more! Therefore maybe everyone will hype and follow them to play their game. This is very 8 years old and yet it still works.

Think for yourself if you want to try or not a game just throw in the 15$ and enjoy it.

    Thank you!

No Lunatis the reason people are "scared" (silly phrase as no one is scared) is that RIFT is a complete copy in terms of game play of all the other EQ clones out there. It offers nothing original to the MMO Genre apart from a bit of fancy graphics.

When oh when are MMO developers going to stop this endless stream of junk .....

I agree with this 100%. People are not scared, they are just cautious because everything that has been released in the past few years has been either A) a complete pile of trash or B) an almost complete carbon copy of another game with only different graphics/settings. If a AAA developer would nut up and try to make a sandbox I think a lot more people would be into it *crosses fingers for world of darkness*

People are tired of being fed the same thing over and over just in a different package.

If you like lucky charms for breakfast, you are not going to want to eat generic lucky charms, or a generic of the generic lucky charms. Especially when they cost the same price as your name brand lucky charms.

So should thinking for myself include ignoring you as well, or is your opinion excluded because you are somehow blessed with a clarity of thought, denied to the rest of us plebes?  I'm guessing you don't quite realize the arrogance inherent in your post, so I'll try to be as diplomatic as possible.  I won't be playing Rift because nothing about it appeals to me enough to bother going through the effort of downloading and installing the client, let alone paying 15$ to give it a shot.  I don't hate it, I don't fear it -- I'm just NOT INTERESTED.

There are games on the horizon that do appeal to me, but this is not one of them.  As to which games those are, I'll keep that to myself, else risk being accused of denigrating one title to garner support for those that I'm hyped for.  I'm confident enough that they'll perform well without me needing to be a cheerleader for them, let alone writing an accusatory post directed at the general gaming community to instill some sort of guilt in them if they don't agree with me.

I don´t care about what people think or say about me playing this or that game. In fact I am the one who ussualy buy and play games first and then drag some friends on them if I like it.

I read about Rift, liked it, tried the Beta and got bored in few hours. nothing new for me there. And the performance was dissapointing.

ll wait for Tera and GW2.

If Rift bored you, TERA is going to be worse. It is a lot more grindy than even Aion was.

I don´t think that´s true. People in KOBT are reporting a very fast leveling pace. And the combat is so fluid and action based that I doubt a bit of grind will bother me much.

Tera is a game I am sure I will try at least.

    How do you know that?

    Momo sucks, I have proof.

That's you typical post that comes up every few hours after a new game's pre - launch.

People "scared" that their games become unplayable and deserted when a new thing comes along.

Instead of being scared, I am angry. Angry that people still fall into the same traps of buying things that offerno alternatives to what I really like to play.

The fact Rift is the 13th in a dozen CLONE of what I already play for 5 years is something to get mad about not feared.

It is your money, do with it whatever you want I would say, but ... helas it is not that simple. Making these copied duds (with the same hyped advertising) is only good for one thing.: promotion of that one game type I already play ...

If you want to throw in a few hundred dollars to play this weeks hyped copy, no problem, but don't make lame excuses why the next one gets the flak.

You say you are angry because people buy things that you don't like.

Either your sentence was typed wrong or you would be a perfect candidate for the next dictator in a South American banana republic :)

Why would you be mad/angry? Why just not let it go and wait until the devs see the light, your light?

If I see something in a store I don't like, I'm not going over to the counter and have a fit because the product is not what I expect it to be. I just ignore it and move along. This is really a weird sentiment imho.

You don't like the game, we understand. But there might be a slight possibility people do like the game, so they buy it.

The fact that it is a "copied dud" doesn't come into play here now does it?

I'm glad you allow people to buy the game regardless of your opinion of it :)

In regards to the op ... I don't think people are scared.

And if people are ... there is seriously something wrong with them.

Its a game, plane and simple. You like it or you don't.

This one even offers a chance to test it out before coughing up any money. So check it out for yourselves and make up your own mind.

OR...maybe they see potential in a game so by talking about some of it's issues, perhaps the game can be improved.   Trion is already known for positively responding to player feedback and  I've been in every beta and have been giving lots of feedback on my concerns.  I'm also discussing my concerns on forums such as these.

If I say that RIFT has some issues that may keep me from buying it, it's not because of fear.  Perhaps it's because of a hope that some things might be improved (i.e., stale combat, sub-standard character models). Oops...I'm about to get flamed again because I said something negative, which obviously means I hate the game right? (wrong)

Not all people are the same friend!

I write about games that i have beta tested to give an opinion and to sometimes learn about something i have missed. Whats the reaso i do this? to give others a broad range of opinions on the games they are looking at trying! this is a site about MMORPGS after all :)

People come to read the good and the bad about game to help them decided whether to jump in or not...and as in my case to maybe find out if the game changes the further you go in.

Will it get progressivly harder after level 20 for instance? up untill then it was way to easy for me...by putting this on the site i may get a player come back and say " hey mate, try heading to the So and so settlement after 20 it really starts to get harder then" this may convince me to enter again.
