Earthrise, the 2011 FFXIV.

Now I know many of you are going to say, "Zach wtf are you talking about? This game is amazing! I cant wait for its release in 5 days!". Well, if you have had the chance to get a beta key like I have, you will soon find out the game is unplayable at its current state. The forums as you may see are crowded with threads containing crashes, errors, slow downloads, poor performance, etc... etc. Now this may not sound like FFXIV due to the fact in FFXIV you could actually walk around and kill stuff, but I do see a fail launch up a head if they dont get there shit straight... and when I mean get there shit straight, there "We will fix it in one week." responce wont cut it for a game thats to be released in 5 DAYS.

This may sound like rage, but you all know me as a reviewer since I openly link my videos on this site to promote them and share my opinions. In order for me to film a Level Up episode and a 1 Hour of Earthrise series like I planed to do today, I actually have to be able to get in the game, play it with out major fps lag, and be able to record. Lets just say ive only walked around in this game for 3 minutes, then it crashed, and durring those 3 minutes my fps with out record was only 15 on the lowest settings possible... aka 800x600 and everything turned off and turned down. Now I can run games like Rift, and Aion with hybrid low settings at 30 FPS normally, so a game thats completely turned down should work right? In this case no.

So whats my verdict about this game? Well I will try again tomorrow, and the next day till release. I understand its beta, and if you made it this far ive NEVER experienced this much server issues containing crashes, atleast if there was any in other games I actually was able to play for 10 minutes at a time, which is fine in a closed beta... some what expect that. This is by far the first Closed beta im growing impatient of, maybe because of personal issues in the background, but non the less im growing impatient with one of this years most antisipated.

To sum it up for all you guys I will continue my struggle with this game to try and get atleast a Level Up episode of it up for you to experience what I have. Maybe tomorrow there will be a miracle patch... who knows with MMOs. All I know is a game that is so antisipated, its performance 5 days from launch so far is worse than a old person who cant get it up anymore... a mans nightmare.

    You are absolutely right.

Last week there weren't THAT many players yet and was still running on the previous "buggy" patch level.

The zone servers were constantly crashing left and right. The noob zone was crashing practically every 5 minutes.

The zones after the noob zone were crashing about every 20 minutes or so.

There whole server just can't handle more than 50 players at one time and then POOF! Zone Server down.

Now this saturday morning they released the new "highly anticipated" patch that would fix everything! Just a week before launch.

Instead. Everything got far worse and the game is more unplayable than it already was. With the excuse that the "next" patch will be the one fixing everything! Euh huh.

And what do they do? They sent out even more beta keys!  Right.

It pretty much starts to turn out in a self defeating prophecy really.

Yeah I knew this game was shady when Its torrent had more seeders than it did leachers... I mean come on... a game company cant even seed there own game? It was pure crap. Then when I got in game after waiting 3 min for it to load the login screen, I entered my stuff in and looked at the beautiful 3 fps that was the character creation and the freeze and error report that I call Earthrise. Truely a pitty knowing this game had so much potential.

A game this close to release should not have this many bugs, regardless if its closed beta. Normally there would be a month gap in between release and the last beta to ensure they fix everything, but this company is full of rookie mistakes and terrible disisions, and unfortunatly potential can only go so far.

  • RuinalRuinal Member Posts: 195

If they had a large open beta running for several months prior to release they might have realised that there were real issues to fix. As it is, I think they are shooting themselves in the head if they plan to go ahead with release in several days. People just will not put up with this crap time after time after time. Is this latest patch the 'miracle' patch or is that still coming, because right now the zone crashed yet again and I am *not* in a newbie area.

I'm hoping the devs do the right thing and delay release, or at least delay using up the 'free' month that comes with a game purchase ala FF and get this sorted. If not, their game is sunk before it even has a chance.

If it's just a client bug (which they try make you believe), then why didn't they fix it in the last patch from yesterday huh?

And why do they sent out even more beta keys?  Just so the servers crashes even faster, so people can't even try the game out AT ALL!

I don't know about you?  But I am out of a clue here as to what kind of impression they try to give and how they think they gonna sell this game?

As anyone with more than one single braincell in their skull isn't gonna touch this game with a 10-feet pole.

So quit.. Stop posting. Most of us are in beta.. We know!! This is a game that's going to take time and patience, and imo, it's well worth the wait. So go.. Play WoW or Rift, or with yer dog,  and let us discuss a game that we have been waiting for years to come out, and most know it will be cleaned up!

Hate to break it to you, but until the server *actually has* 50k concurrent users on it we will never know for sure it can handle that and from what I've seen so far, several thousand is pushing it beyond the limit bug or no bug. I dislike (hate is too strong a word) people like you who pull figures out of their arse without any proof or information which backs up their claim.

I will help you out some.

Get past the noob area tutorials and the crashes go away. But, however, comma, the mobs are invisible in the next zone. I had to relog a few times so I can see them again. But hey, at least I didn't crash. I stopped after that.

I feel sorry for this company. Yet, I don't. Why? Because they will launch it broken and people will still pay full price anyways.

And that business model has worked SO well for game companies over the years. Really, at what point do you figure out that once you lose your players the first week, they don't come back? I thought by now, SOME company would have learned this by now.

Anyways, "it's still in beta" never means squat. Ever. Nobody on the planet can name a MMO that did a complete 180 after somebody uses the old "it's still in beta" arguement.

I'm sure this game will be good to play for a niche group, with or without the problems. I'm on the fence, but starting to sway. Even if they fixed the bugs and crashes, I ( as in ME ), can't get past the following:

The Character Customization is worse than any asian f2p grinder from 2001.

The controls are like a monkey humping a football.

Movement, walking, jumping, falling, anything uphill is just O.o

    5 days.

Everything else is just peaches. Skill-based, potential for depth, endless possibilities for expansions.

I look forward to your reviews, moreso after they get past this bad time.

The problem I have with this game is the developers are showing that they did not go to college because with any basic knowlege of marketing you would not send out 1k+ keys to a game they know already has server issues, then deny completely you are having these issues makes me believe these developers cant even clean there desk for the future bankrupcy that will occur if this game doesnt get a Q2 release. They need to put there heads down in shame, take a knock to the shoulder, shut the servers down for a couple of weeks, fix things, set the game release date back, and then try again. Straining there servers and letting media such as my self into there game will not gain any positive remarks, but only negative ones. This is more like Alpha, not closed beta. I think anyone who has downloaded it can agree with me.

Nope, still crashes even after the newbie zones (exodus) unfortunately, yes I have experienced the invisi mobs but the crashes keep on coming. I do not need to upgrade my drivers and my comp is a quad core with 8gig. I pre-ordered because my guildies are, whether I stay subbed is another matter entirely.

I played both Rift and Earthrise all week.Rift runs great very polished.Earthrise runs shitty in some areas and is full of annoying bugs.

In conclusion im definately buying Earthrise at launch and supporting it.Why?Because you can only make vanilla ice cream so many ways and keep telling me its different.I want a skill system and pvp with looting.Simple as that.

If this game can allow me to get into the game, and if a miracle patch does happen, I will be glad to share my experiences... but I agree... the movement does handle like crap... because the 3 or so min I got to walk around WASD didnt work... it was right and left click hold and move only haha... but hey thats easy to fix!

If it polishes out, it will be a amazing MMO because like I mention, atleast it has potential... weather or not it uses that potential or not, we will find out in the coming months.

The game crashes with "your zone is down" error and the devs know about this issue, they say they'll fix it sometime next week. The game is totally unplayable as it is now, I didnt manage to play it yesterday when I downloaded it, couldnt even enter the game because of the zone down thing. Now in the morning I managed to get in, play for 10 minutes and crash with the same error again, so at this point I just gave up.

Also the GUI is total crap, its clunky and feals unnatural. Should I mention client lags? Probably not, its normal for every indie mmo on launch/beta.

Buyer, be aware, I know I'm not buying this game for 50 eur, ask yourself if its worth it, my opinion it is not.

Also devs delete your posts on forums and lock topics :>

They may be rent topics, but they are based on facts.

I laughed my ass off when in a topic relating the zone issue a player thanked the devs for giving NPCs kewl armor :D instead of making the game playable they give armor to npcs........ think it says it all really....... MORTAL MK II here we come :>

Well in all fairness you can get the game for a hell of a lot cheaper by shopping around. Whether in turns up on time is another matter though ;p

I beta tested Eve and apart from several rollbacks very early on there were no issues needing a 180 change-around/switch up, at all. Try harder.

I want to be in that small group. I can look past the bugs and graphics. But I don't even want to know what endgame pvp is like with those controls and character moverment. I'm too fasinated by my walking up hill animations and will get killed too much.

Really? EVE had a ER like beta? No bugs or problems at launch? I did not know that.

But then again, CCP makes their own music videos on youtube, so I wouldn't expect typical fail from them.

The video is called HTFU by the way. Kinda funny, for hip hop/rap/crap.

Anarchy Online also had a horrible launch and they definately turned that game around. But, this game I am holding off with until I know it is stable to play. I played the beta for a week or so (along with Rift). I enjoyed the game for what it was, but I don't want to pay for beta right now.

Eve online, so do I get a prize or something for being the only person on the planet able to do that?

Really? EVE had a ER like beta? No bugs or problems at launch? I did not know that.

That's not what I said, I'm talking about it's looking bad in beta and then magically is WOW polished at launch. Not we fixed our game after a failed launch and nobody came back, like VG and AOC and so on.

And I agree, AO go fixed after launch. It's one of my top 3 all-time favorite games.

So you're saying WoW was polished at launch? Or compared to say Vanguard it was polished at launch? Either way every MMORPG released has been broken in one sense at release and this is no different. It's not a secret and everyone knows it, for some the enjoyment of a new game and being in there first and watching it develop from inside out weighs the cost.

It's not that you're wrong it's just that it feels like you're walking towards that dead horse brandishing a big stick!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
