Well, seeing Mount and Blade and EVE online (as well as the massive anime chick) in your incredibly large signature...

Did you ever stop to think maybe Rift wasn't right for you in the first place?

It's ok to not like a game, to choose not to play it.

It's another thing to slander and try to attract attention to horribly biased opinions for? For what really?

I'm not sure how many people actually care what Teala thinks about Rift, but I'm not one of them.

In fact, after reading this thread, I have a very low opinion of YOUR opinion.

See, what they say about people being entitled to their opinions and that no opinion is wrong... I think that's full of sh!t.

If I wanted some help/guidance on the best way to manage my financial portfolio, should I get the opinion of the homeless bum downtown or that of the financial planning specialist at my local credit union?

One of their opinions will carry far more weight due to their experiences and skill set.

If you can actually play and enjoy EvE online, then I have no need for nor do I assign any value to your opinion on a game like Rift.

Seriously? A squirrel determines the whole game? They have more important things to work on at the moment than remodeling a squirrel because one person doesn't like them.

Its not perfect but neither is WoW. They need to make rift respectable to play, they don't need to make it flawless. At the moment they are heading in the right direction.

She has a Horde sign (wow related) on there too...it is possible for someone to like Eve and themeparks.

I'm assuming the writer of the blog is female.

I read the blog up to the point where she talked about squirrels.  It reminded me of the /silly emote by human females in WoW.

"why does everyone assume I know tailoring and cooking"

Although pretentious of me to assume all girls think alike, I find that female gamers are typically more concerned with aesthetic points of the game - the cute things in particular.  Also, almost exclusively play healing roles.

Straight up PvP games or combat games like WAR or EVE have a tiny population of female gamers.

If Rift is going to play like WAR and TR as far as PVP is concerned, I can assume the female population is going to be small.

Ergo the skeptical tone of the blog.

You know i can understand people changing their opinions.

I get that. Maybe someone logs into a game and notices something they didnt before and it strikes a nerve and then its just like an avalanche. Not they dislike the game.

My issue with you is Rift isnt running servers right now.

So what happened in a 24 hour span that got you too change your mind?

My guess is it was the Pve server discussion on this forum and the official forums.

I mean you didnt bring up the "little things" at all before.

Almost feels like you got all pissed off and then needed too get overly critical and the point of insanity and this is why we are now discussing squirrels... lol

I didn't bring up the little things before because I wanted to put them in my blog silly.

Do us and yourself a favor. Play through the next two beta events and revise the damn thing.

Its obvious something is bothering you today for you to go all hitler on Rift after acting as if it was the second coming yesterday.

Ah you women... Can't live with ya, Can't bury you six feet under the garage.

    That is one strange review!

A lot of the things that you talk about not being ingame, actually are there.

And tbh, thats not really a review, its just a personal MMO wish list.

Everything is a clone... I'm tired of hearing people complain about clones of things... when you buy music do you complain that it's a clone of the past just tweaked to the bands desired sound? Or when you goto movies of a certain genre do you bitch that it's a clone of other movies in the same genre you've watched?

Blizzard made a well polished game.  Like things of the past, companies are going to use certain formulas that work and add in their own spin on things.  If you enjoy the game then do that... enjoy it.  I understand sharing your experience with the game, but what you have to realize is that since a new formula has worked and proven to work that you will get a base of the same style.  Some people will enjoy the same style of game play while others are looking for a twitch style game.

If there are things there that you enjoy and you can see yourself playing the game, do it.  If you can't find anything that you like on the game or you can't see yourself playing it, well then don't.  Maybe it's time for you to take a break away from MMORPG's and focus on loby style games or even look at what FPS on co-op rpg's are coming out.  Maybe wait for the Witcher 2 and Brink...

edit: yes I know witcher 2 doesn't have co-op... just saying maybe a single player rpg is in the works for the OP.

As a former UO player who really understands what a sandbox MMO is supposed to be I can with full confidence in the credibility and validity of my statements say that EvE Online is a terrible game. I use the word "game" very lightly.

But that my dear is for an entirely different thread.

    Oh one thing.

THose little light spheres that you see out in the game world.

    They arent out of place.

They appear before a tear appears.

I was testing that in Beta and sometimes they appear a few minutes before and others a couple hours before.

I would set a waypoint on my map too one and sure enough a little while later something spawned in its place.

So no... Not a graphical glitch.

I found them kinda strange but it was a cool way to open a rift yourself if you noticed them.

Ummm..,no...this is a graphical glitch.   Those odd graphic effects were on the bridge to Sanctum.    I was at the nd of the bridge before the courtyard of Sanctum.   Rifts never spawned on or anywhere near Sanctum.   LOL!  They are graphical glitches.

Nah, i don't remember seeing them in the other beta events, maybe i'm mistaken.

I think they are glitches, and something that can be ironed out as we get nearer to release.

Reading this made me feel queezy..you sure do know all the hot button words and catch phrases. You even call yourself out for being cliche' and then continue to do it through the whole blog.. Funny when your main point is -- "if you are going to do the same thing, do it better" well.. i have heard all these one liners many times before, and used better.

  • pmcubedpmcubed Member Posts: 289

Taela, on your picture, you should use "shojo" or "jyosei" it's cooler~

Also, are you trying to say "female gamer lock"? or "female gamer's rock"?

I would use "shojo gamer tte saikou" if you wanna say female gamer's rock.

On Topic, Rift squirrels are rendered poorly and it too bother's me :-(

Of course it is all cliche'.   All these blogs, articles are just rehashes of what we've done before.   I have written about Rift before as well..just under anther name - it was called WoW.

Again and I repeat this.   If anything I wrote is wrong...tell me I am wrong.   Correct me.   I gave the game a fair preview in my opinion.  I said what was good and and I said what was bad - in my opinion.  Sorry if you do not agree with my take on things.  Maybe you should write an preview piece  or article on the game.    I am sure it will be full of unicorns, candy and rainbows.

    ahh god...

    I can picture it now.

Someone sees a squirrel and uninstalls.

Never mind that Rifts class system makes WoWs look it was designed by a F2p developer.

Nevermind that Rifts Dynamic content Turns an otherwise extremely shallow questing experience every mmo has and makes it a group focused romp of epicness!

Nevermind that Rifts dungeon design tosses world of warcraft into the 90s!

Nope lets focus on something easily ironed out... like slight clothing clipping.

    Women...

The one redeeming feature is that I can dye my armor pink and cook for my guildmate's when I'm not cooking for my b/f IRL

Lord save the developer's if they don't make MOAR CUTE CRITTERS!
