I'm going to wait a couple months before I try it out. I know I'll love it like Tabula Rasa but I'll wait.

    Good first impression too.

Let me first say that I honestly think this game simply looks bad from the various pieces of footage and the reviews do not exactly convince me. I'm also extremely sceptical toward games with big feature lists released by small companies in general.

However, I am planning to try this game if it lasts a couple of months. Because I simply like the idea and the style it has.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

I liked Star Wars Galaxies, and I like Earthrise. But People should really wait.

I read some positive articles about the game and tried it. It has much potential, but at the moment, I got a framerate of 3-11 frames, and a mass of smaller bugs. Nothing really bad, but its not really playable, I get headache after 20 minutes of playing.

But I somehow believe it will be better in 2-3 month ;)

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment.

We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.

But there are times when a critic truly risks something and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends.

Your primary job should be to inform potential customer about a product. If you deliberately leave  out things that will impact his experience of said product you will lose credibility.

Just like you lost your credibility for me when you posted a preview about Darkfall and not mentioning all the issues present with the lag, hacks, craptastic UI, the horrible animations and so on. Rather the preview was rather postive which lead me to buy the game, just go find out that it was barely playable.

Imo, you are doing it again with Earthrise... but fool me once...

EDIT: You = mmorpg.com. I see all articles written by their staff to be endorsed by mmorpg.com.

    Agree.

This piece doesn't claim to be a review, but claims to be an in-game impression.

If the writer did not experience a particular problem during his or her gameplay experience, then that problem would not make sense to be noted in an in-game impression piece. I don't see why people feel the writer has a responsibility to comment on his or her impression of other user's problems in this type of piece.

That shouldn't seem to constitute a guarantee that all experiences will be similar, nor does it come across as a review of the state of the game.

this game looks horribly dated. global agenda has better graphics, and it was developed like 5 years ago.

For a good acid test when reading "First Impression" game articles.....imagine if the game is instead a...."CAR".

You will soon see for yourself the value or lack of value of such articles when it comes to games especially MMORPGs.

What is it about this game that is suppose to appeal to SWG players? I find that really hard to believe. Any SWG players give this a shot and feel that way?

  • DeeweDeewe Member UncommonPosts: 1,980

I was so looking forward playing this game....

No it doesn't appeal in the slightest.

Despite SWGs being 7 years old it is vastly superior to this. This feels like a 1990 kids game and it looks like the devs know it cause they have given everyone a second month free. But what they really need to do is pull the game back and rework it.

If your looking for a sandbox you have SWGs or FE both of which are superior and for an action based game you have DCUO which does combat a whole lot better.  Unless the devs pull the game back and rework it so that it does offer something you can't get better elsewhere I can see it going the way of APB or FFXIV.

Thanks for the First Impression snippet. I look forward to trying this out once they do have a free trial.

Absolute rubbish, your positives talk about the style of the game and the development/publising the game has behind it. Not about the actual gameplay, rubbish. This game is fail.

How dare you bring logic into an MMORPG.com forum thread.

This game is going the way of FFXIV, and i find it hard to believe that these technical problems can go unnoticed.

This is an awful, awful game and is a legit candidate for worst MMO launch ever.

    Interesting impressions.

Though this is not my style of post-apoc, I'll be interested in reading the full review.

I was so excited about this game for the past year or so and then I played it... Now I want to just go back to being excited instead of extremely disappointed.

That was a nice movie. I'll wait and see what happens to the game in several months.

    Odd.  Not a single mention of the game crippling bugs.  Server disconnects, lag in chat server, lag while firing, lag while trying to switch to combat mode.  Non-stop griefing.   chat filled with people acting like fourteen year olds cussing you out and making threats.  Horrible controls.  This game is in an Alpha state, yet it released and no one really knows about it. {Mod Edit}

I purchased the game fully expecting things to be rough at first.  Even though my expectations have been met, I'm still having fun.  I've only been ganked a couple of times, most people I've met ingame have been pretty decent (well, for humans, anyway), and the downtime is getting shorter and the crashes fewer and farther between.

I also agree with the review and the sentiment behind it (as summed up in the critic quote).  That said, a heads up for people who just can't tolerate bugs, lag, and downtime might have been a good idea, as much for the sake of the game as to save them the aggravation.

people that played warcraft- not wow- and its poon fed- not feed. Warcraft was a game before Worlds of Warcraft ( i know this is mmorpg.com not rpg.com) maybe he meant OG Warcraft. Regardless of all that, WOW is a spoon fed game which is terribly over hyped and praised, and everyone knows it, some are just in denail.

I believe this game is a potential great game if they deliver what they promised and fix the current situation!

Also adds housing and such then this game is a perfect sandbox MMO !! =)

  • TorvacTorvac Member UncommonPosts: 135

really a bad piece of software. 6 more months of beta at least needed, and some systems need complete rewrite/rethinking. why would anyone repeat the same errors that games like neocron or tabula rasa made when they came out ? and really tabula rasa was miles ahead of this game in every field (RG just promised alot more and pissed of his publishers)

game analysis! if you create a mmo learn from other games assets and mistakes and how to value them. ER now just feels like a stupid iteration of previous mistakes in a nice environment (yes the environment graphics are really AAA+). and btw. "sandbox" cant be the excuse for no content for my 50$.
