GLOBAL AGENDA meets TABULA RASA, they have sex and make a baby. Earthrise is born. This baby is very weak and grinds his teeth a lot. This baby is also a bit slow, his speech lags and he can't walk straight. Some peolpe think to put him out of his misery...

Another foreign developer (Bulgarian in this case) MMO. They always fail. Or end up having very small playerbase and next to none support. This game will end up even worse than Tabula Rasa. There will be little support, very little new content that may actually never be released due to lack of finances... Don't waste your time, people. Wait for Dragon Age 2 and spend money on something that is REALLY worth it.

UO was always known for it's hardcore pvp element of die and lose everything but even they realized they need a PVE world as well.

Apart from in eve online, pre-cu swg and uo there are also a few others too i think.  Each of which has or had(before they turned them into more generic versions fo) subs that the wow clones can only dream of.

And wasn't the move towards non-pvp in uo one of the reasons for its downfall?

There aren't many games with a 12 or 13 year history like UO.  Its still around.  That says alot about the game itself and the people who still enjoy playing it.

Lets consider survival in the mmorpg world as being accepted into the mainstream (like wow).

Now, lets take a fully pve mmorpg with no pvp at all and it can survive.

Take a fully pvp world with no pve at all and it will not.....as of yet none has "survived".

What have we learned from this?  Pvp will not be fully accepted into the mainstream and although its fun for a while its like a gimmick blown way out of proportion into a concept that developers are trying to force onto the masses thinking its what everyone wants (due to wows success).

Possibly it could be what I think it always has been.....an excuse for lazy development.  No pressure on devs to bring something new and original to the table when everyone can run around killing each other, giggling like horny school girls and creating their own "content".

lol, i agree, if hes not put down we might see more babies with such horrible abnormalities in the future.

UO had some decent mechanics. ER has 100's of skills that are (apart from being completely untested) unlocked by grinding a gazilllion mobs. Really, gazillions. At first pass it sounds interesting but it's completely flawed skills are bought with points from killing mobs. Oh and in combat it is more effective not using skiils (cause you need to stand still) but by running backwards in circles with your left mouse held down...for hours...and hours....and hours.

you cant even do that, unless you purchased the game

Garret Fullers's first impressions of Earthrise is not informative enough to make me want to try the game. There is no free trial for this game so the little box with the tumbs up at the bottom is pointless and deceiving.

Many of the issues with this game have been loudly stated in the coments before mine, issues that  have been there during beta and many hoped they would be adressed bofore launch but weren't. The game isn't polished enough to merrit a subscription, much less a "Try It" that requires a box purchase and full prise - at this time from me.

Nothing Garret Fuller stated in his "first impression" is new to someone, like me, following this game since it's initial anouncement. I will continue to keep my distance observation of this game and hope that Masthead studios can deliver a polish game in the months to come. Good luck to them!

And thank you for the input, Garret.

I don't necessarily disagree with the rest of you post, but this is not true.  Maybe you have not heard of CCP, but they have been doing a fine job with Eve Online.  Where are they from?  Iceland.  I don't understand why you wrote this.

The company's nationality has nothing to do with thier product, Masthead, regardless of where they are from released a severly unfinished, poorly performing product.

S-E realized that FFXIV was full of much fail so they tried to make it right, didn't work and they fired the dev team and replaced the lead people in an effort to make it right all the while marking the game free2play since it's launch until they make it right and worthy of charging a monthly fee for. It's the same direction ER will probably need to head in order to make it competition worthy.

Bought the game reading just the first impresions, without reading the comments.

    That was a mistake

I 'm only thankfull that I used a paypall account to buy the game and not VISA.

The game feels like an alpha or early beta version. The lag is horrible, most of the times I m dead without knowing what hit me. I died about 20-30 times in the first hour of playing because the mobs keep spawning and hiting me without any chances for me to fight back.

The desync problem is costant, I loose all the mobs on screen every 10-15 mins

As it is now the game is unplayable and I have little hope for this to be corrected. I m not giving up yet, I login every day to see if there is a patch or a notable improvement. If the paid month passes without any problems resolved, the game will be unistalled, mainly for my mental health :)

Having participated in the beta (which was of alpha quality) and witnessed the devs' blatant ignoring of testers' comments, constructive criticisms, and suggestions for improvement, (including a poll in which a majority of testers voted that the game was not ready for release - 1 week out) I would not pay for this game.

Prior to and since release their option of choice as a solution for overloaded servers is to disable character creation,

Masthead are incompetent amateurs and the game is a turd. Don't say you weren't warned.

Live each day as if it is your last, some day you will be be right.

I really wanted to buy this game, but after my experience with Mortal Online, I learned to wait.

From what I've been reading here and in the official ER forums, I just won't spend the money. The weight of opinion against this game by people who have bought and paid for it is just too overwhelmingly greater than those few who support it. And even those few say it is better to wait.

Surprised from all the rage in here . .... its stupid to put all of the bugs and stuff in a review when bugs are something that may be fixed by the time the 100th person reads the review . .. or 1000th

Reviews for indie-games should not be based on how polished it is because they NEVER ARE!

Was anyone seriously expecting a polished MMORPG to be released by an indie company?

NEWS FLASH! "A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore gamer and knew just what to do!" Download my music for free! I release several albums per month as part of project "Thee Untitled" . .. some video game music remixes and cover songs done with instruments in there as well! http://theeuntitled.bandcamp.com/ Check out my roleplaying blog, collection of fictional short stories, and fantasy series... updated on a blog for now until I am finished! https://childrenfromtheheavensbelow.blogspot.com/ Watch me game on occasion or make music... https://www.twitch.tv/spoontheeuntitled and subscribe! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUvqULn678VrF3OasgnbsyA

I don't really care about polish that much.

What I've been concerned about is playability.

If a lot of people (who are paid customers) are coming out and saying the game is playable, I want to give it a try.

We were expecting the game to be somewhat playable.

The people that paid for it were expecting to get keys that actually worked.

Some of us feel that being an indie company doesn't excuse them for being snakeoil salesman.

This "It's a sandbox." "They're an indie company." is getting old. If a game is garbage that should still be in alpha testing, no excuses fly.

If they want me to pay $50 euro for it then it better be fairly polished and more so playable. Being an indie company is no excuse for a steaming pile of crap.

It's not a question of 'polish' read what people are saying more carefuly (particularly those seeing beyond the obvious technical difficulties and pointing out shortcomings of the game and the gameplay). It aint going to be fixed any time soon. Rome wasn't built in a day and if ER was Rome it's inhabitants would still be in mud huts wrapped in furs. Sure it has potential to be a great empire just not this generation.

    This!

I am always amazed that players expect perfection from an indie company.  Only an ignorant person does not expect some bumps and bruises along the way.
