Are you keeping/cancelling your preoder and why?

I, sadly, ordered the Digital CE from trion so i can not cancel my preorder, Dam you jazmine from gamebreaker.tv.  If i could I would.

Why, first off the game isnt that bad, but its also not that great.  When I see a person, jazmine, get so excited for a game that is to me is so average, then it makes me wonder.

right off the bat the graphics arent that great to me, dont have the best vid card, but i activly play wow, eq2, lotro, allods, and the graphics in those games are much bettter at max settings then max settings in rift.

questing, rifts, invasions, are ok, get real bored about mid 25's, last beta i had all four callings in the mid to high 20's, dont pvp, have pvp with a passion.

Though, still the one thing that still keeps me interested in the game is the amount of the npc models and how well i think they did them.  and the enviroment is really well done also.  Should at least keep me interested until my free month runs out.  I of course dont plan to resub,

so tell me what your plans are, be specific, not dudz, the game is phatz, {Mod edit}

    Keeping both of mine.

I enjoyed pretty much every minute I was ingame.  I'm way more casual these days, as I work 12 hour shifts, have a wife, and also workout, study sound design, etc.  This game allows me to log in hit a rift/do a quest then log back out.  Yeah I know other games allow about the same, but I've tried most of them and did not like (could not stomach WoW past lvl 25, hated WaR, bored of EQ2, etc)

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

Keeping!  4 copies here for wife, kids, and myself.  Rifts don't stand a chance.

We enjoyed playing in the betas...can't wait for early launch....Open!, Open!, Open!

    Keeping.

It's something new. I buy almost all new games (I ignore hero games like DCUO) because I'm a weirdo like that. Playing till level 5 was enjoyable and I'd like to see the game progress.

Keeping for sure, both of them and CEs as well. Why? Because its it takes alot of the things I enjoyed in other games and makes them very smooth and well done. That and the fact that you can have different souls for some great customization has got me hooked.

I personally enjoy playing the game and i am keeping my preorder.

However Trion has no right to your money.  You have not received a production product and are entitled to a refund.

Ask them to refund your money if they refuse dispute the charge on your credit card, do it before early start so you can justify your dispute.

I'm keeping mine. I like the art style, I like the public group system (and the Rifts themselves), I like most of the races, I enjoy the collections, I love the soul system. There are a lot of things I'm less satisfied with: the crafting is utterly forgettable, there's very little customization outside of character creation (there are very limited armor models, very limited pet models, nothing like an appearance tab, no barber, etc.) there's no player housing at launch. All of the things the game is lacking are things that are important to me (I'm more of a social gamer than an achiever), but I still like what's there.

I probably won't be a long-term resident, but I'll visit for a bit. What's there is well-made and enjoyable, and I almost feel obligated to support developers who ship polished MMOs these days; it almost never happens.

I share your feelings to a "T". I would really like for them to implement and update pretty much everything in your list there. :]

Keeping, and debating subbing for 6 months to get the founders discount, but I still have time to decide until March 15th. Main reason is two fold. I love the game, and I'm running a fansite.

I'm keeping mine and completely disagree with the OP on the graphics comment.  There's no debate, seeing is believing on that subject.

I'm hoping Trion has left some of this out of the betas, not showing their entire hand in beta so to speak.  I would like a to see a few new additions from what I've seen in the betas or at least in future updates.  I guess we'll see here soon.

i bought the digital download from trion so i wont be able to cancel preorder and i dont want to either.... but ill defenitely jump subs from rift to wow back n forth a couple months, i aint paying both nor sticking with just 1...

Honestly right now I'm on the fence.

Beta 5 was fun because it was all "new" to me. Beta 6 I only played for a few hours and got bored. Quests are OK when you can complete them. Rifts got REAL old after the first 20 or so you encounter.

I'm with the OP, I'll stick around for the free month, after I'm not so sure anymore.

And to the OP, you have not been charged yet for Rift, only when game launches will you be charged. So if you want to cancel you can.

As for the rift graphics it's nothing special even at max. From my experience the best mmo graphics ive seen so far with the best performance is startrek online. Not even conan touches startrek online's beauty.

I can say startek is going huge

actually, what they start charging after the first free month of game launch is the sub, but the digital order  they do charge it right at purchase. i did it and i when checked my bank statement it is charged already cos its a digital purchase so theres no way to cancel it once you have the game on your pc..

Really? Did you buy it from Trion? I bought mine from D2D and I was not charged for it. I always use PayPal and I was not prompted to enter my PP password or was sent to their site.

I'm almost positive I was not charged...Grrr now I'll have to call my bank and find out!

Definitely going to play and keep the preorder - just because from the choices of medieval mmorpgs, this seems to be bout the best at the moment.  Secondly, I am still angry about developers in Warhammer being allowed to create horrible classes, such as an archer with 1 melee weapon, thusly showing the world that the Warhammer developers are completely disconnected not only from the archetypes of the genre, but the fact they ignored the core design of the classes they mutilated from Games Workshop.  Why do I pick Warhammer as an example discussion here?  Because theoretically, they were the last major promise of  a "New Hope" in the industry (sorry I don't count the free to play or titles that have lost so many players that they needed to transform to free to play in order to regain a population).

Only thing Warhammer employees are good at is filling our heads with propoganda about how awesome their terrible and easily forgettable title really is.  FOlks, it's been a good 2 years, we've seen so many improvements in not only player customization, but in RvR blah blah blah...absolute delusional foolishness and the real developers that worked so hard on Dark Age of CAmelot with one of the lowest budgets in mmorpg history...were FIRED because Electronic Arts knew they had to destroy the competition by buying it outright and letting it rot so no one had the authority to give it a new engine and bring it back in full glory. (takes a breath) Anyway...

Point is, I can't wait to see Rifts destroy them because while Rifts may not beat the commercial success of WoW - it WILL devour Warhammer - and after playing tag with the leper colony that is the Mythic Developer staff (dopplegangers that pretend to know what Dark Age of Camelot was by advertising pseudo 2 faction rvr in the face...), well, I'm more than happy to see them destroyed for not listening to their player base.

My only worries? I will give you TWO of them:

    1.

Again it's another 2 faction model - who will ever have the courage to get the third realm back into an mmorpg and break the boredom that results from a stalemate between 2 factions, or the nature of one realm to by far be more populated - better organized., etc.

    2.

No housing I am learning means overprocessed WoW want to be.  MMORPG in a nutshell is a title given to mmorpgs such as Everquest, Asheron's Call, Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, etc. These titles set the standard that today's industry follows (or should follow but does not).

I heard a player once state that the reason housing does not exist in these so called next gen titles is because they interfere with the social mechanism of the game.  In other words, people will be hiding in their housing areas as opposed to participating in open world areas such as pubs or city locations.  I say b.s., you want to attract traditional gamers (other than just the 17 year old Johnny Griefers), then give us something that shows the developers want a title with depth.  Housing literally gives us older players a place we can quite literally make a home out of.  A good English teacher teaches a student to look at a word from different angles, i.e., pronunciation, context usage, language of origin, etc.  This makes the word more meaningful and therefore more easily recalled and identified.  The same goes for an mmorpg; once a player starts to invest a bit of their own identity into the title, such as with housing, guild housing, building structures in general, being able to affect pvp in such a way as to have it affect an entire realm's players...you get the idea.  Wake up developers - wake up now.

Want to beat WoW?  Or offer something that is actually different?  While the Rifts concept is interesting, us old Warhammer players know what happened to public quests. Granted, it is nice to see that a Rift can gain a foothold in an area - that is kind of interesting.  Again, I feel that people will end up running from Rifts themselves to go pvp or do other things.  Hopefully, I am wrong with this obviously borrowed part from Warhammer.

My guess is that Rifts is an attempt to do correctly what Warhammer did wrong (which is sadly a lot of things).  Shame DAMNED shame they didn't go for a 3 faction model. I really would love to see someone raise the industry bar so that developers know they can no longer fool their audience with cheaper less imaginative less developed products. Trust me when I say that developers do NOT want you to have experienced Dark Age of Camelot, or know people who did.  Why?  Because it will force them to suddenly get away from flag carrying, point holding childish PvP and do something meaningful that involves castle siege, towers, catapults and real warfare.  Adding a third realm would really make them upset - imagine if that was an expectation and not a concept buried and forgotten.  How about the release date?  Look it up folks, Dark Age of Camelot in its September release review in 2001 by IGN stated that it was the most bug free, playable release yet.  Sadly?  It still has not been beaten.  So yes, you can make a title with 44 classes and races, three realms that literally do not have to send players to crossover zones for the same boring kill 20 of X wolf quests.  That's just money saving nonsense, YOUR money is being spent however, don't you deserve better?

Anyway, after this wall of text you can point out that I am not a developer, nor am I an investor.  So what do I know?  I'll tell you what I know, every title loses players consistently.  WoW is arguably the only title (outside of some Asian titles like Perfect World), that has its ups and downs in population.  In other words, mmorpgs have been failing one after the other, and yet, they all make the same mistakes.  Terrible pvp concepts, limited class race connectivism, silly or meaningless lore, forgetting the importance of class archetypes, etc.  So why not do something different for once, or go back to what we know works.  Dark Age of Camelot is my personal example, and those who played it in its glory days will attest that (a) Warhammer is crap (b) Dark Age had the best pvp class culture race combination ever.

Oh well, I wish Rift good luck.

Cancled and waiting for Guild Wars 2. When comparing the 2 with what I know (and I have played several betas of RIFT and will likely play the last one to try a different class/playstyle) Guild Wars 2 still excites me far more than logging into RIFT again.

Hard to compare for me when GW2 has not released anything that I can play.  Looks promising, but as far as I can go for GW2 until I get my grubby hands on it.

Keeping. I have the CE lined up, and may do the three month to lock in the discount rate.  The graphics are fine from what I've seen so far. Bleeding edge graphics have cut the throat of many a game up to this point. Its wise of Trion not to go that route.

I canceled the pre-order because I got tired of the game itself. The Rifts are too similar and the questing very boring.

I'm lucky Trion put the money back on my bank account, I did threaten with a chargeback though oO.

Oh well, I will remember not to pre-order games anymore.

  • fyerwallfyerwall Member UncommonPosts: 3,240

Keeping both our CE preorders and also did the 6 month on both our accounts.

We both knew exactly what the game was going to be about and still enjoy it.
